We are usually gone over Easter for my kids Spring Break. This year we are in town. I thought about hosting, I found a restaurant close to me, but I split the difference and picked a place within 45 miles of my daughter, parents and my sisters family. It's a huge, nice buffet for $22.95 per person. I think that is a great deal.
I'm guessing my mom will make my dad pick up the check for the 10 of us, however I will since it was my suggestion.
I know it would have been cheaper for me to cook, but we rarely all get together, and I don't want to deal with the stress.
I know bad YM here, but I just want to have a nice family meal since it has been years.
Do you celebrate Easter and how so?

Well, I no longer go to midnight mass, but my sister puts on an Easter blowout for about 35 people. Roast lamb, taramasalata, spanakopita, moussaka, pastitsio and of course, coloured eggs. Many nationalities will be there..... Russian and Greek and Arab and French and Italian and Scottish and Polish and Spanish.

Noon dinner with friends. Making sweet tea pie for dessert and asparagus with a dijon vinaigrette dressing, served cold.

We host ISO's kids and grandkids for Easter, with the girls here of course. Baked ham and scalloped potatoes. I don't find we get as good a visit at a restaurant so for family gatherings I prefer one of us host. But I also don't go as nuts as some folks. The ham is ridiculously easy, I will do devilled eggs the day before, a Caesar salad, pickle and cheese tray...the only dish that is a fair amount of work is the scalloped potatoes and ISO does that.

I'm hoping nothing. Both kids will be gone, so it would be a nice day by myself, but I imagine I'll get talked into going to the family Easter.

Naturally, dinner will end with Easter bread and an insanely decadent molded cheese dessert, made from farmer's cheese, egg yolks, heavy cream, butter, sugar, vanilla and candied fruit.

We're traveling for extended family Easter the Saturday before Easter. We just need to bring a few appetizers.
Easter Sunday the ils are coming over to celebrate birthdays with us. Since #4 and school, we've not been expected to host large (more than 10 people) gatherings. I anticipate that will change after I'm out of school. It's time.

I'm not sure I'd call it "plans". It's my birthday, and my brother's birthday, so we'll have dinner at my mom's house to celebrate. They live on a wooded acreage, so then depending on the temperature/weather we'll go outside and hide plastic eggs for my 2 nephews and my daughter to find.

Saturday, we do traditional Easter lunch at DH's parents house with an egg hunt for the kids.
Sunday, the kids and I will go with my mom to church, then we'll have lunch at my house - I'm thinking steak this year. And then we'll hunt for eggs again.

We go to my parents on Easter Sunday, but I’ll be there helping with cooking and baking (and egg dyeing!!) on Friday. DD’s birthday is Saturday, so that’s an extra layer but we usually do kielbasa and sauerkraut for dinner on Easter eve, so all I have to add is cake and ice cream. Sunday is ham sandwiches for breakfast, with fruit rolls (like Danish, but the Slovak version instead), hard cooked eggs, jello eggs, and Cirak, which is very similar to cold scrambled eggs. Dinner is roast lamb when we can get it or roast chicken if we can’t with random vegetables and either potato casserole or this rice dish. Both of those can be made the day before so we cut down on actual cooking on Sunday. And chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.

I'll be on vacation. And I'm going away this weekend. I have a ham we need to fix soon. Maybe after I'll do my own Easter.

Quietly, other than with my church community, and that's OK. I'm definitely going to the Saturday night vigil (at 7 PM in my church); I've heard it referred to as "the stealth service" because it's not well-attended by the C&E (Christmas and Easter only) Christians. It has some extraordinary music that's not heard any other time of the year. I may show up on Sunday morning, too- who knows? I LOVE Easter church music- partly because of all the wonderful themes associating the Resurrection with spring ("Now the green blade riseth, from the buried grain...") and partly because it hasn't been cheapened by being played ad nauseum in the grocery stores, as with Christmas music. And then there's the "dry bones" reading on Saturday night and I can always picture DH beside me singing "... dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones..." under his breath.
Anyway, enough theology... I may indulge in a maple-cream-filled chocolate egg candy, too. I LOVE those things- used to hoard them when they were on sale every year.

I got TD’s Easter basket goodies last week while at the store. It really is funn6 seeing him dig through it, just like a little kid.
The club is doing an Easter egg hunt for the kids, and a brunch so we invited his mom, aunt and uncle down to join us. I guess only his mom is coming.

Because there's probably some more rarely performed music then too. I'm in the handbell choir and we play Thursday night, Saturday night and Sunday morning. The voice choir sings with us on all 3 days and they are also there for service on Good Friday.

My dog buddy's family (my neighbors) has adopted me since their dog likes me and I have no family. I get invited to all holiday celebrations. Not sure about the details of this Easter's feast. There was talk of cake. And chicken. I'm taking champagne and fancy cookies.

Our new church actually serves an Easter breakfast, which is really cool. Unfortunately, DH will have to work that day. But, I'll make a ham, and have a lot of the traditional food, so he'll have a good meal when he gets home that night. Most likely, DS & I will color eggs, so we'll be eating egg salad most of the week after Easter. Anyone else besides me like hot cross buns?
