Nobody supposed to know he is not living in! His clothes and shit is still here... C'mon guys, we're all just not understanding. If she gets caught committing fraud she'll just commit MORE fraud to cover it up...obviously! Like my daddy used to say, if you start digging a hole, just keep digging, eventually you'll come out on the other side of the world far away from all your problems. Bless you all for trying to help her understand, but she lost me when she said the house she was planning to pull equity from is also her daughter's inheritance. It's a bit like my MIL who's in her 50s, smokes, and is on disability insisting on buying an extra $10k in life insurance to leave to us. Dude, I was ecstatic that she was buying the original $10k to cover her funeral after DH and I paid for FIL's - let no additional funeral costs be DH's inheritance and we're good. A $10k payout isn't going to matter to us at this point in our lives.

Just one post above...hmmmm I hope at least it’s not punishable by law! No. You can do it. It's just stupid. The best gift you can give her is to not be a burden on her in your old age. My Mom has a lot of money and I doubt I'll inherit anything because she is constantly traveling, updating her house (which is pretty new anyhow), and buying new cars/campers/etc. But, I don't care one bit about an inheritance. I know she'll never be living in my basement or needing me to pay her bills for her and she' out enjoying her life and that's good enough for me. I don't want her sitting home fretting about spending and clipping coupons so that she can leave me all her money. I don't want her house I want her to live life to the fullest and die having spent her last dime on her funeral. And you know what? I'm not even particularly fond of my mother! ROFL Imagine how much stronger that feeling would be in a daughter that loved her mother like crazy?

That's the way my mom went, we had to throw in a few thousand for the funeral, but she used her money. It was hers to use, she did without a lot in her life but not the last 20 years or so of it.

As MPL said, it is not illegal, just kinda ridiculous when you are trying every which way to Sunday to hold onto your house, pulling equity out of your butt, moving people in, yet trying to leave money to your kid. There is no rule that you have to leave an inheritance. The best thing to leave behind is a life well-lived and no bills of yours for her to pay. But given the way this house thing is going, I hope your daughter finds a good job and builds and emergency bail-Mama-from-the-jail fund.

Yes, yes..we are all unique special people in very unique situations-but that doesn't mean the law, general rules of financial well-being, and rules of ethical behavior don't apply to you.

Nobody here really cares how you handle your finances, we give advice and you can take it or leave it. But, if you want to have money, do what people who have money do. If you want to be poor do what poor people do. You're not all that unique, there are lots of people with finances in a mess.

So anyway, yea, two completely contradictory statements here. What a freakin' trainwreck of a life. So sad. Just can't be real. I always picture some 40-something loser guy in a dingy basement with nothing better to do than make up personas on various boards for entertainment.

Only because you haven't been following this saga for years like some of us. Think poster left board for a while then returned. We've delt with Amish chickens from Walmart and melons at a produce stand. Kinda wish it was a 40 something loser sitting in basement but me thinks it is a real live soul. But also has replaced Saturday Morning Cartoons and keeps us really entertained. Therefore, don't feel bad about being sucked in - we all have at one time or another

Somehow I've managed to set something where I can't see tloony's OP, just everyone's replies. And that it possibly even better. But if anyone wants to tell me how to restore things where I can experience the post-melon/chicken wonders, please feel free to help me out.

I prefer one person using multiple personalities she bought cheap at Walmart, then uses for a bit and rejects like bad melons and resells to the Amish to repackage and resell again, marketing as looking, smelling and tasting just like chicken. OK, somebody stop me before I am sucked any further down the rabbit hole-vortex-ugly universe of a produce store again.

Well, I always thought it was Amish chickens that she went to get at Wally World for resale at produce store. At least I got the "Amish" and "Chicken" part right. It's not nice to confuse little ole ladies!! But for the sake of sanity I will go with you version

And I just noticed something else: Loony said this back on April 15: <<Nobody supposed to know he is not living in! His clothes and shit is still here...>> I just realized this confuses me (see how this all works? You read one thing, begin to ponder and then the Uniloonyverse takes you on a ride somewhere else.)
Why isn't anyone supposed to know the STBXH is (or isn't) there? It isn't a numbers game in terms of people living there, because apparently, the city codes don't apply to special snowflake situations. Does his employer care about his residency?
