Should you? Probably not. Corvettes aren't even cool cars anymore, it would only label you as so old you hadn't realized that yet.

No. You're not a toolbag. Thank you. That's the nicest thing anyone has said to me this month.

But being old, and wanting to walk/drive around with something that screams "look how old i am and how old my ideas of cool are!" are different. Corvettes are the crocs of cars...they were popular for a little bit, and some old people still think they're the bees knees...but that doesn't mean I would ever tell anyone they SHOULD wear/drive them.

Yes, but only the ZR1 with 755hp that goes for 123k.
If I am a toolbag for loving that supercar, so be it.
I would wager the folks shooting it down without a 2nd thought, haven't even seen the new one.

It looks really low to the ground, similar to the car I am getting rid of because no one in my family wants to get in and out of it. I got the car from my mom because one of her friends got stuck in it and couldn't get out, and then everyone was afraid to get in it.
Have you gone to a dealer and gotten in and out of it a few times? Are there any particular people that you may want to drive around? if so, you should probably have them go to the dealer with you and see if they can get in and out of it.

If I'm buying a corvette, IDGAF who else can get in and out of it, lol. Seriously, I'm not that old. I can get out of a corvette, as can my husband and kids. My parents can't, but that's what the minivan is for.

I'm going to lease one next summer for my 50th birthday. I was going to do it for my 40th but Corvettes and car seats don't mix...

The new C8 should be coming out in 2020 which means you can get the latest and greatest or have a good chance of leasing a C7 a lot cheaper. I have a friend that is huge sports car aficionado and I've gotten to ride in so many different sports cars at a test track, probably the only reason I have never owned one is because I have occasional access to drive/ride different models.

Not my priority but then a lot of people would look at my travel budget and think I was nuts- you can at least drive a car (weather permitting) and travel has no practical value whatsoever.
If you've researched the ongoing insurance and maintenance costs (and any state property taxes based on the value of the car) and have enough "fun money" to do it, why not?

I'm not a car person but if you want it, get it. You have a second car for winters. You work hard and make good money so splurge if you want.

I drove two seater cars for 25 yrs. and someone was always saying "but you only have two seats and no back seat" My reply was always "yep, me and the ass of my choice"
I am in the camp of go for it and enjoy!!!

Wait until you retire, THEN you can get "that" toy. There are so many retired folks down here with their dream car that it's crazy. Even going to my dentist's office there are some crazy-cool cars in the parking lot owned by retired folks. I wouldn't waste a nice car just going to the dentist.

Yes, the prices are really depressed right now, unless you want a mid-60’s model. The 70’s are especially cheap, and the 2015-2018 are also on sale as everyone is hoping to theirs in anticipation of the new mid-engines due out in late 2019.
It’s a great time to buy. I’ve been thinking about a mid 70’s myself as a decent one with low miles can be bought for less than $8K.

Do you really want to deal with maintenance, storage, and insurance? I'm leasing next year in part because of those thing (plus I can't afford to buy one anyway).

TD drives a Miata, and while I love driving that little car too, it is absolutely miserable for me to get in and out of it. It isn’t so much the lowness to the ground, but the lack of leg space.
We had a Porsche rental for the weekend, and that car is MUCH easier for me to get in and out of. Both of us got stopped for speeding in this car in the past, but managed to grovel our way out of a ticket.
I really do understand the want. When TD got his STi engine rebuilt, that sucker has over 600 HP (I think Corvettes are 700 or so). It is sooooo much fun o drive, he says it is the most fun he has had with his clothes on......and he is right.

The guy we know that had a Vette traded for a Jag (about 500 hp), both were convertibles. DW and I borrowed each of them, both were a blast to drive - but getting in and out were cumbersome, especially when the top was down, nothing to hold onto. Not convenient for daily driver. The trunk on the Vette is behind the seat - you have to rock the seats fwd, then stow things behind the seats before you & passenger get in. (Think - 6 trips to haul a 6-pack home).
As for driving them in snow-country, you'd have to sit down in the snow beside it and scoot your bottom over into the seat. And a light-weight fiberglass body with rear tires about a foot wide - it probably wouldn't get far on snow/ice.

You can't drive them in the winter here. They will get hung up on the snow, the road salt corrodes the body, and the fiberglass can crack in the extreme cold. They have to be stored in a heated garage over the winter. Which I just happen to have. DH will just have to park his truck outside.

You should totally get one. Use Looney's bank I've heard they are giving out a free $35k with every loan. You can get TWO cars!

Are we talking brand spanking new? I had my Malibu in for an oil change last year at my Chevy dealer. They had three in stock. All were cheaper in price than some of the Camaros they had on the lot. Granted the Camaros were tricked out to the max but still............ Looks like GM might be dumbing them down....... When they announced Pontiac was being discontinued I went down to look at some Firebirds. Figured I might buy one and store it for the most part. When I tried to sit in the driver's seat, I could barely get out of it......thought would I really want to drive this and struggle getting out of it at every location? I could see driving 75 miles and being stuck behind the wheel.
