Since I'm having a lazy Sunday, I am watching the Kardashian's. Kim is flying her friends to Vegas to see Cher- that's how this relates to money One of her friends stated a coworker didn't know who Cher was. So I asked my 15 yr old son if he did. NOPE! I saw Barry Manilow on the Kathie Lee final episode on Friday. Loved it! Love Neil Diamond, etc. Maybe I should do a better job of teaching my kids about these legends. Who are you favorites? Kenny Rodgers, Dolly Parton, James Taylor, etc.

You do need to teach your children well.
David Crosby, James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Elton John, and too many more.
It's sad that Neil and Joni are no longer able to perform. I think Neil still does some one offs but Joni had to totally relearn everything and struggles to talk.

I’ll play. I like Cher, love Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers, Gordon Lightfoot. I hate Janes Taylor, but that might be due to having to learn Fire and Rain for a piano recital at an impressionable age. It’s a stupid song to play at a piano recital.

Love Cher! Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks was a high school classmate). The Eagles. Hall and Oates. Neil Diamond (cannot resist singling along to Sweet Caroline). Queen. Gordon Lightfoot. Peter, Paul, and Mary. Crosby, Stills, and Nash (and various combinations with others).
ETA: How could I forget Jim Croce? And the New Christy Minstrels.

He does request Alexa play us John Denver "Country Road". I think I'll play JT tonight. Have watched him in concert several times.
Oh Fleetwood Mack!!
We had a "cover couple" when I was in college that did Neil Diamond- Thunder and Lightning!
Its amazing how those songs remain over the years!!

It’s a stupid song to play at a piano recital. You should have done what my younger two siblings did. All four of us kids took piano lessons from the same teacher. Older brother and I were to play a duet at the end of year recital. Some for the younger two siblings. Old brother and I did ours. When it was time for the younger sibs to play, they told the teacher they lost the sheet music. They didn't play.

Our kids were born in the 90's. They've been exposed to music from the 50's on. We always played "Name that Band" on any car ride. Although there was that one time when DS asked me if I knew who the Grateful Dead were... They're pretty clued into old movies as well.

This is my generation.
However, who was the rock star that Paul McCartney played with, and all the kids were going who is Paul McCartney? I remember the incident, but not the singer.
ETA: It was Kanye West. That sort of makes sense since he is a rapper.

If I were to list just acts from the '60s and '70s who have not yet been mentioned (and I have at least five of their albums on either LP, CD, or MP3) the list would still be at least 25 names long. And what, none of y'all really listened to rock music?

Favorite bands were INXS, Men at Work, Steppenwolf and Supertramp. Still not roll and roll, I'm afraid. Oh, and because I'm in a different country...Offenbach!

Rhianna was also on that song (whoever she is). It's called FourFiveSeconds. I've heard him perform it a few times and sit down and wait for it to be over. It is not my style.

growing up in the 80s I got to choose between either 50s/60s music or Crystal Gayle in my mom's car, or OLD country in my dad's truck in the 8 track player that whoever got stuck in the middle was in charge of changing out. as an adult, my radio pre-sets are so all over the map that most people would assume that it's not just presets for one person. I will go to see pretty much anyone once. I love live music, to the point that my big vacation each year is a chartered music cruise. that's saying something! this summer, my sister and I will be seeing Pentatonix (a capella group) up near where she lives, and the the "Happy Together Tour" with the Turtles and a number of other acts from the late 60s at a cool venue down near me. that show was outstanding last year, we can't wait to go again and be the youngest ones in the tent lol... I went by myself to see Herman's Hermits b/c nobody else local wanted to go, and my family wasn't coming down on a Sunday night. whatever, I had fun. as far as some of the names that have been mentioned already, I have to confess that I can't stand JT, or Stevie Nicks. their voices just grate on me. and if I never heard Sweet Caroline again, I'd be totally okay with that. as a Red Sox fan, that's not going to happen.

I introduced the kids to the music I grew up with, and was pleasantly surprised that they liked it. They would listen with me to music from Chicago, ABBA, etc. In fact, when the movie "Mama Mia" came to the theater, DD was the one who suggested we go see it. DS is currently listening to stuff a typical boy would enjoy, like Ozzy.

DD loves my 60's to 80's, music and the new stuff I can't stand. Hubs listens to Willies station.
I need to cancel Sirius as the price is ridiculous, $393 for 2 and we have it in 3, that's crazy. Hope they will agree to lower it as we really like it.

My kids know who Cher is only because of Mamma Mia 2.
I've had to explain who Elton John, the Beatles, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Bonjovi, Ozzy Osbourne, and various other bands are. We often watch Car Pool Karaoke with James Cordon, so there is a wide variety of artists they are exposed to. The Disney Rock and Roller Coaster prompted the talk about Aerosmith.
In exchange for my information to them, I know know way too much about Cardi B.

You pEEps are mere babies. I started out with Bill Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock and I wasn't even a teenager then (close). Long music history and love it all. My kiddo grew up listening to mine and I "grew up" listening to his.
Several years ago he surprised me with tickets to Bob Dylan concert. Folks were chatting till show opened and lady behind me said something about what the "make up" of the people in audience was. I laughed and said "Retired?" She looked at my son and said he's not old enough to be retired and she was glad to see younger person there.
He turned and looked at her with his shit eating grin and said "Mam I was listening to Dylan before I was born" Everyone around had a good laugh. To this day he'll call and ask have you heard so and so and I do the same. Now he draws the line at Brahms, Bach and Beethoven though and I learned to love that when taking piano lessons.

We taught our kids a lot by making them listen to 70s and 80s music while in the car. My middle son is a trivia buff and he learned a lot of useless trivia from us. DD was living with us when Journey came to town and we took her with it, she knew all the songs, and was in tears when they played Faithfully (her DH was in Army boot camp at the time).
I'll have to say I don't really consider Cher to be really a total noteworthy performer, not hall of fame type performer. I do remember watching the Sonny and Cher show though....
I have a younger friend in her mid-30s who has 3 young kids and she was talking about taking them to some concerts for the experience of classic rock, and she mentioned KISS. I told her KISS did not really fit the bill, they were not considered rockers, just performers back in the day, more famous for their show and makeup than their music. I think she ended up at Fleetwood Mac instead.

And Paul Stanley sounds like a little old Jewish guy from Brooklyn when he talks. Which he is. The voice does not match the looks.

She does at least know who Ozzy Osborne is she used to jam to him when she was a toddler. In return I get high blood pressure thanks to JoJo Siwa. I've seen KISS and Areosmith in concert. KISS put on a way better show, I liked Areosmith's music better.
