please choose from the following list:
1) because you think they will show criminal liability (tax fraud) 2) because you think they will show that he lied to the US public about various aspects of his private fortune 3) because you think he should comply with 50 years of presidential tradition 4) because you think they will show ties to foreign corporations and the Russians 5) because you think they will show embarrassing details about taxes actually paid 6) other (please specify)

You could have had 7. None of the above for three of us to choose from. Your poll is loaded to one side........

Mostly 1 & 4, but, all of the above works for me. We need to know how deeply he is in debt to foreign countries, and if so, if he is feeding them information from the US as "payback". For example, he NEVER should have had a meeting with representatives from Russia, alone, in the Oval Office.

You could have had 7. None of the above for three of us to choose from. Your poll is loaded to one side........ my poll asks why people WANT to see his returns.
if you don't want to see them, don't reply to the poll.
if you do, i assume you have a reason.
if it is not there, then #6 is your answer.

Combination of all other candidates and presidents doing it and the lady doth protest too much. I have no idea what he's hiding, but it's obviously something since he's so adamant about keeping them private.

2, 3, and 4.
He already told us he doesn't pay taxes. I don't fault him for using the tax code as written to his advantage.

In order of which I think is most likely: #2 - he's lied about his fortune. Actually, he's lied about it in two ways - when he wants to puff himself up, he claims he's a multi billionaire. When he has to pay taxes, he's lied to minimize his net worth. His true net worth is probably somewhere in the middle, but since he's spent so many years bragging about how rich he is, he would be mortified if his tax records showed a very modest net worth. Trump HATES looking like anything less than a WINNER.
#4 He's got significant ties to foreign companies - ties he has denied, up to this point, when he's attempted to claim he isn't liable to be influenced by foreigners.
#5 He hasn't actually paid federal taxes in years, due to significant losses years ago. Yes, these are probably legal deductions, but he knows if it gets out it will play very badly with his base, most of whom are hard working blue collar workers who dutifully pay their fair share. Optics are everything.

2&4. Considering that he is always lawyered up I don’t think that fraud can be proven. He is not a “traditional” president so tha would be irrelevant. He has no shame so even if there are some embarrassing details he won’t care.
If we are to use the same metrics that he did when claiming our net worth then we can all be billionaires. Who’s gonna stop me from claiming that my name/brand is not worth $2billion? Can anyone prove that is not worth that? He makes these assumptions that have no base or grounds to stand on and still, he is the president!

1) because you think they will show criminal liability (tax fraud)
The probability of major corps being audited is so high that the Controller and the Legal Dept plan on it every year. No, no fraud in his Tax Returns.
2) because you think they will show that he lied to the US public about various aspects of his private fortune No
3) because you think he should comply with 50 years of presidential tradition
No - it's tradition only because the other presidents caved under public badgering and waived their rights to privacy. 4) because you think they will show ties to foreign corporations and the Russians
I would expect they will show ties, Trump owns 17 golf courses, 5 are in foreign countries - Dubai, Ireland, Scotland 3X
5) because you think they will show embarrassing details about taxes actually paid
No - the taxes paid will match the tax code. I would not be surprised if the depreciation on assets offsets his operating earnings resulting in no tax owed.
6) other (please specify) So - my answer, none of the above.

2,3 4
6 is criminality but not tax fraud. I’m sure his disclosures for tax purposes will not match his disclosures for loan purposes.

Yes - there are already investigations in Trump's inflated/cooked statements of net worth that he had his auditors sign and then presented to potential investors and to insurance companies. (Based on Cohen's statements).
Fluffing his net worth for potential investors might not be a big thing (he's not the first person to do that) but lying to insurance companies in order to get reduced premiums is criminal fraud.
I don't think they'll need his tax returns to prove it, though.

Frankly, beyond a lucky 70’s real estate investor with daddy’s fortune and a reality star he doesn’t know shit about business. His tax returns would prove that.

I would be interested in seeing trump's New York state income tax returns. I wonder what information they hold. There is a bill making its way through the NY state assembly which would require "the state Department of Taxation and Finance “post on its website certain New York State income tax returns the department has on file for the president, the vice president, New York’s U.S. senators, governor, lieutenant governor, controller and attorney general” going back five years." They have the votes to pass it and the governor is all for it. Show and tell: New York must expose Trump’s taxes

Primarily, #3, I guess. I have no clue what his tax returns might show and I'm not prone to guessing. I like to have facts on which to base my determinations. I do believe, if one wishes to lead this country, honesty and transparency are very important; therefore, the tradition makes sense to me.

6. other - sheer nosiness.
ETA - I have no idea what's 'normal' in taxes for a wealthy person. I too assume he's got a decent tax company that keeps him mostly on the legal side of the IRS.

#2 #4 #6...because I'm nosy too. And I'll bet most of us can understand the basics of his returns...we aren't as dumb as he is. I've done our taxes myself for years...when we had businesses and when we didn't. Most questions can be answered some place in the IRS web site...you just have to keep searching until you find what you need.
