My DH's kindle once responded to a video I was watching when it said Alexa. I didn't know it was on since I turned her off on my stuff (kindle & phone) and I about jumped out of my skin since I was alone.

I think people who have Alexa and Echo in their house failed to heed the lessons of science fiction movies.
Did none of you see I, Robot or Terminator?

I’m not sure what all Alexa can do even. She’s in my kitchen. Google is in my bedroom

Alexa can turn lights on and off using the Amazon Smart Plug...yes, I love that feature. I use her to remind me of appointments and certain things I need to do in the house (like start the dishwasher). I know she can do a lot more. The one thing I haven't figured out is how to tell her to add something to my grocery list and then have it added to my phone. Maybe a trip to Verizon today and I can get some help with that one.
I don't think Alexa is any more creepy than having OnStar know where I am at any given moment....and if my car ever gets stolen, it won't take them long to find it. For me this is all a win/win situation.

Hearing DD6 belting out Francessca Batastelli's "Fear you don't own me" night after night and other songs on demand is priceless. My life isn't interesting enough for me to care what they hear.

I'm usually alone in the car whenever I drive anywhere, so having that feature and the crash notification feature provides some peace of mind, assuming someone eventually notices I'm not around if I ever do go missing in the car. I haven't figured out how to get the grocery list to my phone, either. I know it can be emailed (and then accessed from the phone via email), but I didn't give Alexa access to my email contacts (in case she does go rogue at some point).

Take Alexa out of the kitchen. She can't cook. But in my case she could call the fire department while I'm running out the door. True that. Also-don't let Alexa ride in the car with you. She's a back seat driver: "Turn left at the next light", "Go another 10 miles then at the 4-way stop, turn left at the BBQ place." Etc. etc. etc. Who needs that nagging.

ADT can call the fire dept. when the HVAC guy is there changing out the battery to the carbon monoxide detector.
At least the fire fighters that showed up were cute and very friendly.

You have a spat, and Alexa be all emailing your best friends like, "Gurrrrrrrl, let me tell you what dannylion said about you." dannylion is wise. Do not give Alexa that power.
