We don't need a wall, but,,
I actually have been following this quite closely, and know some people who actually worked with him. They are fairly certain that he had overstayed his visa from a few years before. It hasn't officially came out yet, so I am not 100% certain. This all happened in my backyard, 20 minutes away from all the murders. People were terrified! 4 in a matter of days, and it never made national news. I was shocked that it didn't. We had what we believed was serial killings going on, and barely a peep out of the news. Trump tweeted briefly about it after he was caught and came out as illegal. But, he never said much more.... Was it because he found out it was someone who was just overstaying a visa We thank you for your concern months later.... But is that because it fits a political agenda?
Good chance, as that's the way things have been going these days.

I live in California. Our economy relies on illegal immigrants, especially our farming communities. I imagine it would cost us much more a year, if we didn't have illegal immigrants working and paying taxes.

If the government started actually enforcing that requirement and shutting down businesses who regularly hire illegals, there would be a massive political backlash. Everyone would bitch about food prices going up, and crops rotting in the fields. Lots of whining about how our farmers couldn't compete with Mexican farmers if they have to pay actual wages to legals rather than a pittance to illegals.
It's much easier to pretend we enforce our immigration laws by catching some illegals coming over the border. They aren't already working for someone, so easy to ship them back. This also gives a pass to the 'nice' illegals, the white ones who fly in from Canada or Europe and just overstay their visas - we don't mind them staying, it's just the browns we want to arrest, especially if we're a right wing politician who got elected by whipping up the fears of the lower middle class, less educated voter pool by conjuring up hordes of drug smuggling rapists and murderers flooding across the border.
We could stop the flow of illegals tomorrow if the government just started enforcing the E-Verify by closing down businesses like Tyson who ignore the law. That.will.not.ever.happen. Our dirty secret is a certain segment of our business and agribusiness rely on cheap illegal labor, and the government doesn't want to disrupt those businesses.

I've always had a problem with lack of enforcement. Then the subsequent, it's now to big of a problem to enforce. Not just for immigration either. I don't want to get into a brown ones/white ones discussion, as that's something different. Illegals are just that to me. They shouldn't be here.

If convicted with the required proof of knowledge of the hiring, sure why not. There is a code in place for the level of prison time that can be assigned. Use it.

Step back, though, and ask yourself why they come here? They come for jobs, right?
The jobs dry up, the illegals stay home, or immigrate to a country that DOES allow illegal work.
Politicians who allow a bunch of tax dollars to be spent on this completely ineffective Wall just to allow Trump to brag about how he 'fixed' illegal immigration, murder, and drug use should be considered treasonous. It's like Trump decided the best way to stop wildfires out west was to hire a bunch of guys with rakes to rake all the forests - and Congress gave him the money to do that.
Stupid, money sucking ideas need to be shut down before we dig an even deeper debt hole.

We don't need a wall, but,,
We get it, we get it! You're all for illegals sneaking into the country as long as they marry your son and then get their papers. Or they're friends of yours who snuck in and and then became legal after many years. Illegals you know = good. Illegals you don't know = bad. There's some stellar logic, right there. Ok I got it , the one that sneaked into this country, killed four people is=good!!!

Ok then, him killing those four people doesn't matter,
How about the one that wounded a police officer and killed the Deputy Sheriff?

I’m not a fan of the wall when it’s much easier to simply put anyone hiring illegals to work in jail. No fines-jail time. Especially Tyson execs. No school, no medical care, no benefits of any kind. Your new “citizen” can either go home with you as you’re deported or you can leave it here to be adopted as you’re deported. Your choice. Easier and less expensive. Paying fines is ridiculous and ineffective. Obviously. But execs in jail, that’ll work.

Businesses like Tyson, have a long line of American applicants standing outside their door,, looking for work?

Gun laws won't work, so lets do nothing about this serious problem. A border wall won't work, but lets spend billions of dollars anyway, because brown people! A man used a gun to kill people - we need to crack down on all gun owners! An illegal immigrant killed some people - well you can't punish all immigrants for the actions of one!

Enforcement does happen...but when it does, you have a "certain segment" of society that complains and protests about it. Some are even calling to end the enforcement agency! Who are those people again? Hmmm....

I was never really sold on the effectiveness of the wall. I also don't use it for the same tired Trump bashing. Have at it if you wish, I'm kind of neutral on it. If it wasn't the wall, it would just be something else.

You realize that that is a literary construct meant to draw a comparison with the stupid-assed president's stupid-assed wall, which clearly won't work, right? The operative word in mine is "work." Not "might." This stupid-assed president doesn't even believe in his stupid-assed wall. It was a campaign talking point that a couple of advisers came up with to rile the simple-minded and angry, scared people who make up the far-right "base" and that was easy for Trump to remember to say. That's it. As the carnival barker he is, though, he oversold it to the point he can't back away. I want every person in the country illegally to be deported, but this wall is not only moronic but will not solve the problem. Better to spend money on something that will.
