Maybe we need a better process. Possibly on the federal level.

Maybe we need a better process. Possibly on the federal level. No, the police need to do the job they are paid to do! This man was not entitled to have a gun! convicted felon! The cops screwed this up!! If the cops had done their job those five people would be alive and the five police officers not have been shoot!! Now we will have ten pages of people offering excuses for the police doing a poor job,,,
I know, I know, the poor police officers are over worked have a dangerous job,,
Looks like the dangerous job here was working with this man!!!

When you purchase a weapon it is not the Police that checks you, it is the FBI. If he was a felon then I’m pretty sure that the FBI declined his request to purchase a weapon but somehow he still got it.

It's my understanding the guy was convicted of domestic violence and did jail time in Mississippi back in the 1990s which would have prevented him from buying a firearm. The folks whoever did the background checks didn't look into crimes out of the Illinois area or back that far in time. The guy also lied on the purchase request form by checking off the box he had never been convicted of a crime. A national background check with no limit on the number of years it looks back would probably have stopped this guy from purchasing the firearms.

The link you posted states that he passed not one, but two criminal background checks. The police ran one as did the gun dealer. If there was a better gun control process in place, he would have never passed the second background check and would not have been sold a gun. Perhaps you should write a letter to the POTUS and express your concern. People actually dying due to antiquated technology seems to be of higher importance than some brown people overstaying visas and doing the jobs that Americans wouldn't stoop to doing.

If you read my post you would see where I blamed antiquated technology for the mishap. They can only work with what they have.

Andi, it is not antiquated, if I go in to a gun dealer, to buy a gun, they know in minutes whether or not I able to buy a gun,, maybe sooner. Some cop did not do his job at least twice,,!

That is absolutely not true. I work in a sporting goods store on the weekend. Best case scenario is your background check takes an hour. I have had countless people call and ask for the status of their background checks because it has been weeks.

Then the police are not doing their job! When I bought the last AR15, rifle, from Cabelas, they knew in less than fifteen minutes, if they could sell me that rifle! They were busy, five deep the entire length of that 100 ft long gun counter!

As far as weeks later, they have two day to accept or deny your application,, They can deny for any reason they want, it is up to you to reapply. If I show a concealed weapons permit, We don't even need to wait 10 minutes,

In my decades of working in large corporations I know that people make mistakes. If your process is such that mistakes are easy to make, hard to catch and hard to rectify, you can't just demand that humans stop being human- you change the process. Using technology and automation, having double checks, etc. I am not sure why that is so nauseating. It is basically doing the same thing, but being better at it. The problem is with the federal government, you can't just change processes, you have to go through the legislative process and create a law. But, because people hear what they want to hear, even a simple change is chicken little sky is falling ridiculousness. Upgrading the technology around background checks and making them nationwide wouldn't be the same as 'the government showing up and taking your guns away'. It would just mean the people who aren't suppose to have guns wouldn't be able to get guns legally. The only reason you should fear that is if you are hiding something.

I think all you really want to do is stir the pot and paint police officers in a bad light. Between that and bitching about immigration, that seems to be all you do. Perhaps you should get a hobby other than trolling.

The worst part of the troll is complaining about police all day long then supporting the candidate that isn't supporting police reform who even said it was OK for police to rough up suspects. The good trolls at least have that aligned. On most message boards I've been on if you quit feeding the trolls they go away.

I understand that you and don't see eye to eye on police,,, because they can not self police themselves. some one has to point it out! If they were policing themselves I would not need to post this, When you have months and years go by then, videos come out usually thru court action, do the police finally do something!! It is damned obvious that they are covering them selves!! there is a great need for oversight,,
Like always say, Police investigating police works every time,,,, or NOT!!
Save youself aggravation, block me!
