Let’s see
New Years Day MLK day President’s day Good Friday Primary Election Day Memorial Day July 4th Labor Day Columbus Day Election Day Veterans Day Thanksgiving Day after thanksgiving Christmas Day
14 days.
We get primary and Election Day off because as state employees we are not allowed to work the polls on state time. Rather than having any question at all about if vacation was properly applied for and granted, they just decided we all get the day off (many of us work the polls, so we don’t really get the day off, it’s just different work).
If the holiday is on a weekend, we get Friday or Monday off instead. My boss also gives us our birthdays off, which would be great, but my birthday is usually a day we already get off. He also lets us rotate who works the days between Christmas and New Years so that only one of us is in the office. We aren’t busy then, so it’s usually show up in jeans and clean or inventory supplies. It’s almost boring, TBH.

I get 8 set holidays and two "floating" ones that I can use on actual holidays or just whenever I want.
New Years Memorial Day July 4th Labor Day Thanksgiving Day after Thanksgiving Christmas Eve Christmas
So 10 total.

Christmas Eve to New Years (5 to 7 days depending) MLK Good Friday Memorial Day Eid al-Fitr (if it falls on a weekday) Eid al-Adah (if it falls on a weekday) July 4th Labor Day Rosh Hashanah (if it falls on a weekday) Yom Kippur (if it falls on a weekday) Thanksgiving (2 days)
The actual number varies year to year because of the floating holidays, but it usually works out to 14 plus.

New year's, MLK, presidents, memorial July 4th (they often give us 2 days), labor day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and usually two for Christmas.
Job before last had all federal holidays but didn't give black Friday.

Well, yeah, but since it's on Sunday, we already have it off. Our 4th shift has Easter as a scheduled holiday, but they miss some of the other ones.

Is it common in Canada to get Easter Monday off? I think I remember that.
A long time ago I wrote code for the nurse scheduling system at client hospitals. They go time and a half for overtime and holidays, double time for both. Easter was hard to calculate; I used a formula I can't remember now, but it floats based on a church year, not the same as a calendar year.

Canada, or at least Ontario has a 3 day weekend every month May - Oct. Gotta take advantage of the no snow.

We have the 10 federal holidays (NY, MLK, Pres, Mem, 4th, Labor, Columbus, Veteran's, Thx, Xms). My crew has to cover the shift 24/7, so we get paid extra if we have to work a holiday. The worst time to work is Christmas Eve night shift. You have to work Christmas Eve in the evening, and on Christmas morning, but you don't get any holiday pay for it (unless it is a year where the president has turned Christmas Eve into a holiday. It's happened a few times in the last 20 years.)
We also get a holiday if a president dies, so I've had a few of those as well.

I was in high school when MLK day became recognized as a required school holiday. Because of this, our district chose to take away President's Day (I believe we were the only district in the state that did so). Parents were pissed over the change (not that they didn't agree with MLK being a holiday, but they did feel it should not be placed as a "greater" holiday than Prez day). So, more than half of the students were absent on President's Day. Our district has not made that "mistake" since.

Yeah, that would be difficult to code unless you just plugged in the specific dates for each year. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the spring equinox.

Statutory holidays are New Year's Day, Good Friday (Easter), Canada Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day - these days are celebrated nationwide and are paid days off for employees. Federally regulated employees also get Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Thanksgiving and Boxing Day off and it is common practice, however not required, for non-federal employees to get these holidays off as well. www.statutoryholidays.com/

If it was my weekend to work, I worked on Easter. Then I could take either Good Friday or Easter Monday off.

Back in the early 2000s, it was interesting that most of the retail dept. stores like Macy's were closed for Easter, but it wasn't a paid holiday. FT workers just made up the hours they missed on other days.
I have no idea if they still close for Easter.

We get the 6 you mentioned plus day after Thanksgiving for a total of 7 days. None of those federal holidays apply to us. Me too. In addition to this we get 5 floating holidays but can't roll those over year to year. People forget about this and complain every holiday we don't get off. They are free to use a floating holiday but most take it for vacation in a big chunk. We get pretty generous time off though. I'm in my third year so just got a third week PTO. So I get the 7 holidays, 5 floating holidays, and 3 weeks PTO. I also started using my sick time. I never use all 6 days but I have started using about 3-4 instead of just working from home while not feeling well. My current manager gives comp time too when we work in the middle of the night on saturdays. I have 2.5 comp days built up that I need to use. I took one a few weeks ago and will likely take another next week.

I work for the state. We get the 10 regular federal holidays. We can trade Cesar Chavez Day (March 31 I think?) for Columbus or Veterans Day, but I never have. If the governor is feeling generous (he has the last three years) we get the day after Thanksgiving off too as a Governor's Holiday. We usually get out a couple hours early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve depending on what days they fall.

We are a small, family owned company with 35 employees. All of our employees are either salaried (3) or union (32). The Union employees get unpaid days off for the 6 main holidays. They can draw funds from their union vacation program to compensate for the day off. As we do road construction in Minnesota the bulk of them only work from April to mid November. Our mechanic works all year. He is union but we do pay him for Thanksgiving. Officially we are closed from the 23rd of December until 2nd of January and all salaried people get paid their regular wages. Un-Officially most of us still pop into the office to work on end of year projects here and there during that week. Veterans Day- all Veterans get a paid day off (If they are still working and not finished for the construction season). It's only a few of us- me, the owner and two or three employees.

I work for the state and we get the following:
New Year's Eve/Day MLK Day Good Friday Primary Election Day Memorial Day 4th of July Labor Day General Election Day Thanksgiving Friday after Thanksgiving Christmas Eve/Day At least one other day tacked on to Christmas or New Years, depending on when the holidays fall 1 Floating Holiday
So that's 15. Election days are only given in big national election years (so Pres. election years and mid-terms). We don't get the full time off between Christmas and New's Years, so I usually take vacation days the few days we are open. Then, on the last working day before the Christmas holiday, the governor gives every state employee the Floating Holiday, to be used before June 1.

I guess we get two days for New Years and Good Friday, so 10 total days for those on 5-8's. Those working 4-10's get 8. Weekend shifts get 6.
eta: Never mind...we don't get Good Friday. The list of Holidays by name says we do, but it's not off by date for any of the shifts. Our next day off is May 27th.

So for most people so far, President's Day isn't a thing. Three of you don't have defined holidays or don't get paid for any holidays per se at all. Interesting. Just learned that one of the biggest libraries in our system closes both Presidents' day AND Feb 12 for Lincoln's birthday. I have no idea why. There's always a debate about whether community libraries should be closed on federal holidays, or open to serve the public which has the holiday off. For public libraries, I can see the rationale of matching the holiday structure of their government "owners". However, most in my system are Association District libraries, which are technically "owned" by their board of trustees, not any government agency, despite what everyone thinks. Public perception being what it is, our board of trustees votes to close on federal holidays rather than ruffle feathers.

So this is interesting. Some people get election/primary election days, which is a proposed bill in the U.S. Senate.
It looks like floating holidays or personal days are available for most people to use as they see fit, for religious holidays or things like Veteran's Day. A lot of people get extra Thankgiving/Christmas/New Year days, so two days off instead of one each holiday.
Only one person mentioned Columbus Day.
The range of holidays/personal days/floating holidays seems to add up to a minimum of 6 through 15 days for people who get the week between Christmas and New Year. Big range if you're looking at paid time off in general.
For those with very few if any holidays it comes down to great flexibility in working hours in total. So how you allocate the time off depends on what you call .your work hours.
Essential shift workers like medical personnel have a different scheduling problem to accommodate, because no day is a given to be off.
And IT works holidays often because that's when they can do system implementations and upgrades without disrupting everyone else.

Ok, give this some thought and from the last place I worked.
It was just me and bossy lady so no "personal time or sick time rules" I rarely was off sick so it that happened just got paid. There were times when I wanted to take kiddo out of school for one of my "culture trips" as he called them and I didn't use vacation time - just a day trip and bossy lady would suggest going during week instead of weekend!! I had a good boss.
NYD - if fell on Sat or Sunday took Friday or Monday Also depending on when it fell took off early NYE
Mardi Gras Day
April 16 Depending on when the 15th fell (kinda a floating holiday)
Memorial Day
4th of July (also see NYD as to when it fell)
Labor Day
Thanksgiving and Friday after
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - See NYD options
4 weeks vacation - if I had to work overtime I took accumulated comp time rather than OT pay, but it rarely happened.
If under Hurricane warning and bossy lady said close down office got paid (office closed for over a week due to one hurricane) got paid. Was never docked over the years for "can't make it to work due to snowflake falling, flooding, etc."
It's been so long ago I might have forgotten a holiday day but don't think so.

The bakery I work for is closed:
New Year's Day Easter Memorial Day 4th of July Labor Day Thanksgiving Christmas
Hourly employees are not paid. It doesn't matter what day they fall on, we're open 7 days a week.
There's always at least one customer who complains because they have the day off and we aren't open. Too bad, buttercup, we have families too.

If it was my weekend to work, I worked on Easter. Then I could take either Good Friday or Easter Monday off. The first year at my current job, I almost had a meltdown on Easter Sunday. I'd only been working there a couple of months, it was the first time I'd ever worked Easter Sunday at any job, and at the last minute they told me I had to stay over a couple of hours. My kids were 4 and 6yo, I'd already missed going to church with them, I'd missed Easter dinner at my grandmother's and if I worked late, I wouldn't be able to even hide Easter eggs with my kids. It was a really big deal to me, I was so sad and upset that I had tears in my eyes. One of my coworkers felt bad for me and went and talked to the supervisor on the incoming shift. He said me and the other new girl didn't have to stay, we could leave. I almost ran to my car. I've worked every Easter since, unless I was on vacation or something. We don't get time off for anything concerning Easter.

I recently changed jobs and went from having all the stock market holidays off, to have fewer times of year off but more days each time (total days off stayed the same).
Now I get Good Friday, Memorial Day, 2 days for July 4th (depending on where in the week it falls), Labor Day, 2 days for Thanksgiving, 2 days for Christmas, 2 days for New Years.
It's nice having days included in there that I would otherwise burn PTO for almost every year (like the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, etc.) It's not great waiting from 1/1 until the middle/end of April with Easter to have a paid holiday. Given that I am someone who rarely takes time off at the start of the year, the Stock Market calendar always forced me to take a few days to relax early in the year.
The place I work now is MUCH smaller than the last place, and also far less structured. Last place was huge and corporate...come in 90 minutes late due to taking a kid to the doctor/dentist...use 90 minutes of PTO...no flex time unless it went through a week ahead of time and was pre-approved. Now I take half a day off and it's "oh, just make the time up sometime, don't waste PTO". It's a bit weird since it's also a manufacturer, and if you're 5 minutes late and you're in production, you might as well not show up and there's a good chance you should look for a new job.

We get ten days total, the most of anywhere I've ever worked. The six main ones, plus: Day after Thanksgiving Day before or after Christmas (depends on what day Christmas lands on) Day before or after July 4th (again, depending when the 4th lands on)
Good Friday

BC has the following 10 stats:
Federal
New Year's Day Good Friday Victoria Day Canada Day Labour Day Thanksgiving Remembrance Christmas Day
Provincial
Family Day (was today, Feb 18) BC Day
I believe Boxing Day is a holiday for Federal employees but it isn't Statutory in BC. Some employers like mine do give the day off with pay but it isn't mandatory. On the other hand, Federal employees like the Posties still have to work on Family and BC Days.
My employer also gives us Easter Monday off with pay.
So I have 12 holidays from work.
