As usual, trump has offered us White House "alternative facts". AP FACT CHECK: Trump declares emergency with faulty claimsWASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Friday declared a national emergency at the southern border while acknowledging that rapid construction of a wall is not a necessity, but rather his preference. In justifying the extraordinary step, he brushed aside his administration's conclusions that drugs come into the country primarily at official points of entry, not over remote territory that a barrier could seal off. Trump invoked what his aides called the "common authority" of presidents to take unilateral action through the declaration of a national emergency. But there's nothing common about a president taking command of billions of dollars without the approval of Congress to pay for a campaign promise. "I could do the wall over a longer period of time," Trump said, raising questions about why he sees an emergency unfolding today. " I didn't need to do this, but I'd rather do it much faster." At a Rose Garden news conference, Trump also claimed progress on wall construction that hasn't occurred. A look at some of his comments: Complete article here: AP FACT CHECK: Trump declares emergency with faulty claimsI know English is not my first language so maybe I am missing something in this declaration based on my language skills (or lack thereof) but how do you go from declaring an emergency to saying the counter-measure you want to put in place is not really needed but something you would like to have? Hasn't he negated your own declaration of a national emergency with his own words?

Not this one. This one is about the constitutional issue of declaring a national emergency when the legislative branch has not funded a project that the executive branch thinks they should. It has nothing to do with immigration, legal or otherwise.

He also still has most of the 1.6 Billion he got last year for the wall. He isn't really interested in building a wall, he wants the fight for a wall. There has been no pro-type picked for the wall, he doesn't have the land to build the wall, and he's made no move to spend the money he has, nor to negotiate or seize the land necessary. It's not about the physical wall, it's the fight for it, having an "enemy" & talking point, and stringing people along in his fantasy of a memorial to himself.

Knee Deep in Water Chloe-your article is worthy of it down thread. Think about starting one on either the Politics or Current Event board.

Not much of an article but the headline is cute: Trump takes the 'emergency' exit link

All those gun totters think they should be fighting Hillary? One person alone cannot. Hubs still thinks it can be done through the congress and the courts, I don't know, he is packing the courts. I think by the time people realize, it will be to late. Seems to me the majority of Americans have been dumbed down.

Good article, but Trump probably thinks the Magna Carta is a brand of condom.

My very conservative representative from my very conservative district has stated she doesn't support the move link. Until she votes to support the national emergency, I will also believe as your husband does.

We will see, I don't have much hope they will do anything, I think the repubs will lay down and roll over. What is wrong with them?

They cannot go against the great one and split their party. Here sign this, declare that, let the courts sort it out and our hands are clean. They do not have to do their job that way. I did call Mitch McConnell's office yesterday and told him the only thing I will be working on until 2020 is the Ditch Mitch campaign.

These polls were asking about McConnell and Pelosi, only poll there for trump was do you think the country is going in the right direction. A large majority said no.
It was just one that pops up sometimes after you read some online news and asks if you will take some polls so I did.

Should constitutionality be poll based?

Should constitutionality be poll based, interesting question. So many people are so dumb about what is constitutional I think you would be on dangerous grounds there. Many apparently don't even realize trump is immoral, or maybe amoral is the description of him.

I would assume even conservatives would hit the button "no" button on whether they think the country is headed in the right direction based on what the democrats are doing

I know it is the Onion, but how true: WASHINGTON—Enthusiastically praising the commander-in-chief for holding firm in the face of opposition, Donald Trump’s political base cheered on the president Friday for standing up to the U.S. Constitution. “He stayed strong and really showed the Constitution who’s boss,” said 48-year-old Trump supporter Ross Heddens, applauding the president’s bravery and determination in taking on the document that represents the social contract through which all authority vested in the U.S. government is ultimately derived. “No fundamental system of laws is going to get in his way. Trump has shown that he won’t allow mere constitutional articles—not even the ones that explicitly delineate which powers are granted to which branches of government—to stop him from doing what he has pledged to do. That’s how tough he is.” Members of Trump’s base went on to urge the president to continue standing his ground by ignoring any future rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court that may seek to prevent him from fulfilling his campaign promises. politics.theonion.com/trump-base-celebrates-president-for-standing-up-to-cons-1832659448

Good article, but Trump probably thinks the Magna Carta is a brand of condom. If true, then trump confused Magna for Parva. Something he can relate to.
