Sure wish my kids could get polio. I think it would be good for them.

Sigh. What a moron.
Anecdotally, my cousin has a son with profound Autism, and he was diagnosed ~25 years ago when everyone was linking it to vaccinations. She flew her son around the entire US looking for help/cure/diet/whatever she could find and spent $$$$$$$$$$ on it in the process...at no time did she actually believe vaccinations were the issue and all of her subsequent children received them at the recommended times. She did, however, have only one other child with her husband as they were cautious about the genetic link - they adopted the rest of their children.

My older son actually did get whooping cough even though he was vaccinated, because the vaccine prior to 2010 or something was no good. It was AWFUL. It lasted for months before they figured out what it was and treated him, but before that he couldn't sleep and would go on these painful coughing jags that didn't seem like they would ever end. I don't know why anyone would choose the disease over the vaccination if they had the choice.

A little diphtheria never hurt anyone either.

Sure wish my kids could get polio. I think it would be good for them. My grandfather got polio months before the vaccine came out. Just the other day one of my cousins posted something regarding iron lungs and my uncle & aunt commented about how they remember him coming home and being in an iron lung for a long time. He was lucky, he was able to get out of the iron lung but was a quadriplegic - even though he didn't let that stop him. But he died when I was 2, so I have no memories of him. I'd most likely have memories of him if he didn't get polio.

A little diphtheria never hurt anyone either. Or chickenpox in the BACK of your throat. DN3 was admitted to the hospital fighting for his life when he contracted the disease before he was old enough to be immunized. I just happened to be on vaca so I was there for this → it was SCARY and awful. But he is now a strapping 6'6" tall adult so it didn't hurt him right?

Yea, that'll teach the unborn child how good natural childhood diseases are → a chance of being born with heart problems, microcephaly, vision problems, hearing problems, intellectual disability, bone problems, growth problems, and/or liver and spleen damage should not get in the way of that life lesson right?

It was still hell! I have no idea how I didn't break a rib. I don't wish that one anyone, especially young kids.

Before they figured out what it was they were thinking he had asthma. We spent a fortune on pulmonary work ups and breathing treatments. Then about 25% of the local little league got sick and the finally realized it was a whooping cough epidemic in town. Patient zero was believed to be from an anti-vaxxer family at DS's school. There are quite a few of them there as it's kind of a nature loving hippy school.

While I was never officially diagnosed, I am pretty sure I had it too and the coughing got scary. I coughed until I started gasping for air and seeing dots in front of my eyes. This was way before the DTaP booster, maybe 2003? My doctor finally figured it out at the rib fracture. That was the third time I had seen her for the cough, and like MPL ‘s son, I also got a pulmonary workup for asthma.

Symptoms of polio have a way of resurfacing later on in life (Post-polio syndrome). A friend of mine contracted polio as a kid. When he was in his forties, some of polio's symptoms such as muscle weakness began to return.

I suspect like chicken pox, the virus reactivates when you get older and your immune system starts to wane. I wonder if reimmunizing those who had polio would help with this?

A viral infection from same years later. I looked it up. Palliative care only. Drugs have been tried to ease the symptoms but no success as of this time.

My doctor never did the swab for the official diagnosis, but he heard me in the next room and diagnosed me then! Lol. It was scary; that is probably the only time I thought I was going to die from an illness.

If you're a good moral rich WASP you don't need vaccinations. Only dirty immigrants bringing Ebola across the southern border do.
Duh everybody knows that. Childhood disease weeds out the bad stock.
The fact nobody can see the irony in panic about diseased immigrants while simultaneously not vaccinating makes my head explode.

Then wouldn’t it make sense to reimmunize polio patients as they hit 40? It might stop the reactivation to begin with....like it does with chicken pox and shingles.

I would think the vaccine would have been tested on polio survivors by now who have not yet shown symptoms of post-polio syndrome to see if it could prevent it but I cannot find anything on that. Everything I read states there is no prevention for it.

They probably could have modify the vaccine dose they use for children, so it wouldn’t be a new vaccine.
