Hi Time flies and just like that is time for my first CPA license renewal.
I have to do all my CPE credits by June and I want to do it online because of lower cost and instant access to all courses.
I found a website called MasterCPA. It seems legit and their name appears in the NASBA website in the list of providers. The cost is low at 149 for a subscription with 35 extra for the ethics credits. Any advice? Thanks

CHECK YOUR STATE!!! States have different requirements. It used to be some state required some amount of live CPE. Some require a certain amount of A&A if you prepare financial statements. I have a state you have to report by June, by it is for the previous year. That means all the hours had to be earned in the previous year. Check with your state!!

2nd what readergirl said. Definitely check your state. Some states don’t require new CPAs to have CPE for the first renewal. Some states require state-specific CPE (Florida is one of them). Some states require a certain amount in-person. Also, some states must be particular providers for non-in-person.

I went to the website to check out the CPE specifics. I have time until June 30 of the renewal year to take credits. The requirements are 80 hours with at least 20 in Accounting & Auditing, no more than 20 inBehavioral Sciences and 4 in state specific Ethics course. They accept the Ethics course prepared by Mastercpa specifically for the state. The website doesn't mention any in person classes requirements. There's no information about first time renewal. I'll call on Monday to see if I need to take credits for first renewal

I use western cpe. Most of their online webinars count as live because you have to click when it beeps. At least in my state. I think I paid $399 but I do it part way through the year so it spans 2 years. I need a minimum of 20 hours each year and a total of 80. I’m not sure if that is consistent with other states

I’m not sure if that is consistent with other states I checked it out but it's more expensive than other options out there. Sequoia, MasterCPE and a few others charge $149 for a subscription. Whether you can use them or not depends on your state, and if it accepts them.

Well, I called today.
Very good news. Since this is my first renewal period I don't have to take any CPE credits right now. For the first renewal I only have to send my application with a check for the renewal fee in September-October. For the second and subsequent renewals I have to take 80 CPE credits, and I can do all the credits online.
