DS was named Jonathan; My Ex picked it out and I was OK with it so that settled it. I'd really lobbied for Vito, the name of the Ex's great-grandfather (he, DS and the Ex all shared the same melodious Italian surname) but The Ex would have nothing to do with it. So, DS has two daughters so far. The older has a pretty Biblical first name and the same middle name that her maternal grandmother and I both have. The 2-year old was named for her grandmother on DDIL's side and her great-grandmother on DS' side, both wonderful, strong women. And now they're expecting another, sex as yet undetermined. I tried bringing up Vito again but if it's a boy they'll name him Thomas Jonathan for 2 reasons: Jonathan after DS, of course, but also because General Stonewall Jackson's real name was Thomas Jonathan Jackson. No, we're not southerners, but DS was an avid student of military history. I count my blessings- his other idol was Napoleon.

My older DD’s name is my maiden name in another language. Her middle name is the name common to me, my mom, my MIL. (Middle or first for all of us.)
Younger DD not named after anyone or anything.

DD is not named after a cartoon character with orange hair who wears a purple dress and is friends with a talking dog who solves mysteries. We just liked the name. She has the same middle name as my sister, who is her godmother.
Picking a girl name was not easy. I have very strong feelings about names, and insisted that anything under consideration couldn’t sound like a stripper and had to sound reasonable with “CEO”, “Senator” and “President” in front of it.. DH was a serial dater when he was young and didn’t want to give DD the same first name as anyone he went out with. Ever. I was looking at girls names from the 1950s when he announced the name couldn’t be old-fashioned, either. Which really meant biblical to him or named after anyone in our families, since everyone else in our families chooses traditional names.
Nevaeh was very popular for babies at the time, so I told anyone who asked that if it was a girl we were naming her H - e - a - v - e - n, then told them it was Nevaeh spelled backwards. But I was a very cranky pregnant lady.

I went to go get my oil changed recently and my conversation with the guy at the front desk basically went like this:
Guy: Have you been here before? Me: Yes. Guy: First name. Me: Andi Guy: Last name. Me: 9899 Guy: Do you live on Waverly? Me: No. Guy: Have you ever lived on Waverly? Me: No. Guy: Huh. There must be two of you. Me: Who the hell let that happen?! Guy: 🤨
Be forewarned y'all. There are multiples of me. And that doesn't even count Things 1 and 2.

DS1s name was decided without any input from me at all: I was 100% convinced I was having a girl so when his father said (a week after the baby's due date) that maybe we should choose a boy's name as well my reaction was why? Knock yourself out. So the name xH liked best was my father's first name. → big potential for trouble and DS1 ended up with xHs father's first name and my father's name as his middle name. DS1 goes by his middle name
For DS2 I recognized that my second "daughter" could turn out to be male also, so I did provide input. His first name is the only one that was on both xH and my lists after many months of trying to find something both of us liked. DS2s middle name is his father's first name but he uses his first name.

Close top choices for dd were Cordelia or Mary Jane. The 3d ultrasound pictures we got of her at 20 weeks had her looking exactly like me and I just knew the teen years were going to be hard enough on her that I couldn't also name her Cordelia. (It would be lovely on a child that looked like ds, and while dd looked just like me as a baby and toddler she doesn't resemble me in the slightest now, so Cordy or Cordelia would have been just fine). Mary Jane, would have been good too, but she was born the year our state legalized marijuana and I took a poll of what people associated it with and 85% of people said they'd assume we were stoners. A few years in, again I'm sure it would be fine, and really I'm pretty sure I'd call her Janie so I really shouldn't have worried so much.
I seriously considered changing her name at 6 months because every little girl we met had a variation of her first name with Grace or Faith as a middle name and I thought we had accidentally stumbled on the Jennifer of her generation. That seems to have died down. There aren't any others kids with her name at her school of 300, so fingers crossed that lasts.

I didn't realize it until a couple weeks after she was born, but my daughter is named after a character that was in the soap opera I watched in high school. Her middle name is the female version of my husband's brother. My husband wanted to name my son the same name as the all girls Catholic school that is two blocks from our house. I put a stop to that, and ended up conceding on the least horrible thing my husband picked. It is the last name of one of the worst President's in US history. His middle name is the same as my father. I wish I had pushed harder to make that his first name. My maiden name is dead. One male cousin, who is decidedly child free at 50. You named your kid Donald Trump?

There first names are ones I just happened to like.
Gwens middle name is the shortened version of my dad's first name.
Abbys middle name is after a character in The Great Gatsby.

There is always a chance he changes his mind. Male fertility won't necessarily interfere...

DH and I have common names for our generation. We didn’t want to do that with DD. DD is named after my maternal grandmother (an older name but not old-fashioned). Her middle name is a name I liked. Of the 5 options I gave DH, he liked that one the best. 7.5 years later, I still ❤️ her name.

My DS has my last name. DH had 4 brothers and my family had only daughters. The name would have died. It made my father very happy, and DH didn't care.

My DS is not named for anyone. I was certain I was having a girl and never did pick out a boys name. Then when he was born we couldn’t agree on a name so we took him home as “no name”. XH and I finally agreed on Dennis as his first name with XH’s first name as DS’s middle name. It got a little confusing when I married 2nd H who has a brother named Dennis.

Mom wanted to name me Mairead (we're barely Irish, yo) and Dad liked Stephanie; Meghan was the compromise.
I started a literary theme with my cat names with the most recent two. We had Henry Chinaski (RIP) and now we have Charlie Asher. Whenever our old lady dies I want two females so I can name them Beezus and Ramona. Another male cat would be Billy Pilgrim.
I'm not one of those weirdos who thinks my pets are my substitute children, I just really wanted to participate.

Years ago, long before we were married, my husband said how much he liked the name Sophia. I agreed that it was lovely and very unusual because I could only think of Sophia Loren and Sophia from the Golden Girls. Fast forward a few years and we name our firstborn Sophia... number one name in the country . Four years later, I pulled a list of the top 100 names and any we liked that was on the list I tossed. I have a Gaelic name and it is the bane of my existence so much so that when I was a child I pretended my name was Jane. Our youngest girl is named Jane . I haven't heard of many little girls named Jane and yet last year there was a Jane in her ballet class and another one on her swim team! My mother's name was the polish version of Sophia, so i can concur it was only a name for little old ladies until Disney made that movie, and the name suddenly exploded in popularity.

Good thing too since there would be two no names out there well not counting me

I am one of the weirdos who thinks my cats are my children. Same! And she's the best baby ever and I'll never have to worry about saving for her college education or her getting knocked up, plus in my head she speaks with a British accent and calls me "Mother" when she's angry.

Family names through and through, I am of Czechoslovakian descent on both sides (100%) and my generation became somewhat fanatical about using family names for our kids.
DD1 - First name is a version of my paternal grandmother's name (Magdalene) - middle name is my paternal great-grandmother's name. Her first name was meant to be unique...except that it's the same as Swamp's daughter and for whatever reason that name EXPLODED 25+ years ago and she ended up with about 4 other girls in her class with a variant of that name. Ugh. I should have reversed them - her middle name has not been popular since the late 1800's.
DD2 First name is my maternal great-grandmother's name (which has STILL not been picked up for use, it's VERY unique) and middle name is ex's maternal great-grandmother's middle name, her first name was Vera and I preferred her middle name of Irene to that.
If either had turned out to be a boy, his name would have been Henry Grayson - which is a version of my paternal grandfather's middle name and ex's paternal grandfather's name. Both of those names have become really popular lately, but my girls are both in their 20's so had either been a boy, they would have been trendsetters!

DD1 was named after an older lady at the lab whose name I heard called - I'd been searching for a timeless yet less common name. When I heard it, I knew that was the name, it even was French to go with DH's last name, and alliterates.
DS2 had to have DH's first name (long family tradition, some generations ALL the boys had the same biblical first name). I'd pushed for a different middle name, but the downstairs neighbors yelled it (their kid's name) a few too many times and soured DH on it. We compromised on another biblical name partially similar. That's what he primarily uses, as DH has swapped from using his middle name to his first professionally after college. I still call DH by his middle name.
DD3 has another classic biblical first name, and has her paternal grandmother's Amish-sounding name for a middle name. My MIL passed away a few weeks before she was born.
DS4 has another set of biblical names. I thought we'd found one that wasn't too common, but not odd. Suddenly it was outrageously popular a few years later. His middle name is one of my brothers' first names, but I just thought it went together with the first name well.
DS5 got a very classical name, but we use a less common nickname for him at home. He uses a more common nickname at school - it was easier to spell in prek. His middle name is a Gaelic version of his paternal grandfather's middle name.
I was unintentionally named for my great grandmother - mom didn't even realize the connection, apparently.
Three of us have E names; again, unintended coincidence.

DD was named after DH's beloved grandmother. Actually he loved them both the same so I will say his nice grandma. We hadn't agreed on a middle name so he used my first name when he filed her paperwork. My name has been common since the Greeks I think so I'm glad he didn't switch the order. When he calls her by her first name first and her second name second, we both answer.
It's an old-fashioned name so she hasn't run across anyone her age with it. There is a similar name that was more common when she was born that has 2 letters in reverse order to her name. People often call her by that name and drop one of the vowels from her last name so she has learned to respond to a variety of names at competitions.
