Is anyone using a Mesh Wifi system In their home? I have considered buying one for awhile, and the latest thing that casued me to think on it again is we installed a smart swich that needs a controller, and the Samsung Mesh Wifi would act as the controller. That said, it is not the best rated mesh wi-fi system, so I think I will be better served with a different system.
top rated by PC Magazine is Linksys Veop Mesh WiFi $399 less 15% so $339. Then Netgear Orbi $299 on Amazon (some review say this one is better) and Google WI Fi, which PC Magazine does not rate real high but it does seem to be simple to use, and have pretty good reviews, so I wonder (Simple is good in my book). Samsung mesh wi fi is Samsung Connect Home.
The other thing I need to make my GE smart outlet work is a Samsung Smart things Hub

this is the outlet I bought...it is installed, I am not sure if I realized it needed something else to be wireless...I had a remote controller that I returned, it may have also worked for the switch.

Just interested if anyone is using a mesh wifi system and what your experience is with it.
Thanks.

We have TP-Link Deco whole home mesh WiFi; M5 model. Paid $170 on Amazon. Full bars everywhere. We love it!

We have the Google one purchased at Best Buy on the recommendation of the kid working there and it's great. Easy to install (download the app before you disconnect your old wifi) and works with no issues. We have 3 "hubs" or whatever they're called and it covers our 2300 sq ranch well.

My boyfriend bought me a google mesh from Best Buy. He's a huge Samsung fan and we have a lot of samsung wireless appliances and doo dads so not sure why he did google over samsung unless it was just a good deal he got.
I'm in a 3200 sq foot house and have one on each of the 3 floors. I spread out where they are so that they aren't all on the same side of the house above each other. I get WiFi coverage in most of my back yard too. It is so much better than just having one wireless modem. My master bedroom is as far as you can get from the place the modem is so I was struggling with one bar on my phone at night. No issues now anywhere.

Yes, I am torn between the Google wifi and the Orbi one. The Samsung one is not even comparable in the ratings. The Google is only well rated for ease of use, but I am not a techie and ease of use is important to me. If it is too complicated, I won't be able to get it set up.
I almost bought one last year, and then I got stuck on two things: The price, and which one was best for us.
I have an issue with wifi on my phone in the bedroom...I also have issues sometimes in the living room. DD has issues in her bedroom when she is home too.
Of course, buying either of the two named systems will result in me also needing the controller for my switch which will be an additional $50-75.
We live in a 13.5 year old ranch, my house does not fit the description of a house that would benefit from/need mesh wifi, but I definitely have areas of the house that are not getting a signal.

I also didn't really have good Wifi speeds in sections of my house - my DH complains about it in the mancave/basement (slow speeds) and I complained about the backyard (no wifi at the edges of my yard). I considered getting a mesh system, which would have meant I would've needed to turn off the wireless router part of my modem/router that I currently have. However, with my split level design and plaster walls, the mesh systems didn't seem like they would necessarily work as well as I wanted. I had already tried a wifi extender, and it just didn't get into the basement very well or at the speeds my DH wanted for netflix since it's underground although it worked fine for me in the backyard. I ended up going with some plug-in extenders from Net gear that work through my power lines (which were also much cheaper - especially since I found a set on clearance). Basically, they work in at least pairs (but you can buy more and pair them up). The first one plugs into the wall outlet close to your router, and you connect it with an ethernet cable to the router. Then it basically turns your wires into network cables. You add others by plugging them in and pairing them to the base unit. I actually bought 4 (the packs were sets of 2). One of them is a wifi extender, and the other three have ethernet plugs. One of the ethernet ones is in the basement, and my DH's computer and the Smart TV are now plugged into it (he does a lot of music editing on the computer, and the slow wifi signal wasn't working for that either). The wifi extender is my sunroom plug so I can now access wifi at the edges of my backyard, and I have a extra I'm not sure what I'll use it for. Maybe if I get a smartTV in the living room?
One drawback is if you have older wiring, the speeds might not be as good. There is a light on the front showing if its connected to the system, and it will change color based on the speeds it is getting. I had to use the new outlets I recently had installed in the basement to get a good connection down there; the old outlets on the old wiring weren't getting the faster speeds. Upstairs it wasn't as much of an issue, but I did need to move it around a bit until it was closer to the start of the line in sunroom. It was really easy to set up, and has been working really well. It was also much cheaper than the mesh systems.

Our 2 story brick home was built in late 30s. The brick and plaster were causing issues with our old WiFi even with extenders. Very pleased with the mesh DH chose (TP-Link Deco whole home mesh WiFi; M5 model). He did extensive research. We have a large yard and it reaches everywhere. Love the price and security features as well.

I must have a super powerful router. It's in a utility room in the back of the basement and the entire house and about 3 acres of yard are covered! I only lose it when I go into the steel pole barn. It better be good as my internet provider forces me to lease it at $10 or $15/month.

Not an expert, but I was told that routers will interfere with each other and make your signal worse. So if you have no close neighbors with routers, yours might be able to function optimally!

No close neighbors. The two that are closer than a half mile are in their 90's and don't have internet.

I went ahead and ordered the TP-Link Deco with Smart Hub, since I need a smart hub. It is a 2 pack and I paid $207 on Amazon. The older version without the smart hub is $164.94 on Amazon and at Best Buy.
I will update and let you guys know if it works!

I have the Google Wifi, I got it on some deal at Costco where it included 4 of them. So far it works great, I think my ISP gives me 150 mb download speed and I can exceed that easily in the main part of the house. On the edges, I'm more like 120 or so. So far, so good.
