Why would a baby's birth weight be noted as 6 lbs 18 oz instead of 7 lbs 2 oz?

Maybe they wanted pEEps to think they had a petite baby!!! In this day and age I guess they thought someone would body shame the poor little thing. So smoke and mirrors were used.

Back in olden times, people had a lot of 8 pound premature babies. They were people that had only been married 7 months. That could be another reason why you would want a deceptive weight.

Well, I couldn't use the premature baby story. My kiddo came in at 9 lbs!! Yep I remember the "olden days" when folks claimed premie at 8 lbs, head full of hair and almost talking!!

I was watching a show where an American was in Russia to see his baby being born. The doctor said something like "The baby weighs 3.2 kilos." The American got really upset. "Don't tell me how much the baby weighs in kilometers! Tell me in pounds!"
I cracked up.

Though why you would ask for your baby's weight in a length measurement is beyond me

When we were on a boat from Australia, they announced that the waves would be 2 to 3 meters high, and most of the people gasped, 45 seconds later, all of us Americans gasped.

I was 9 1/2 lbs and 5 months after my parents marriage. 😱
Could just be an error, maybe measured in kg? When my granddaughter was born in Germany someone texted me a pic of the card with weight and length in kg and cm.
Sometime things get hectic in delivery room. When one of DS was born he was born when doctor was on the way so was delivered by the nurse. Because of all the confusion the nurse who is supposed to record time of birth forgot to record it so his birth time is an estimate.

An easy way to remember is that a meter is roughly one of your yards. Roughly. I know, but we don't speak in yards either, so I had to say meter = yard. Yard = 3 feet. 3 meters x 3 feet = 9 feet. And then I gasped.... Outside of football and sewing, yards isn't really used. And certainly not describing a height of 9 feet. Distance of 50 or more yards, yes, but even then I have to do math. 200 yards is two football fields. And then I have remember how long a football field felt, and double it. If I wasn't in marching band for so many years, I'm not sure I would ever instinctively know how long a hundred yards is.

I wasn't a preemie...I am almost 12 yrs, younger than my brother, but I weighed 9lb.7oz. & my son was 8lb.3oz. He wasn't a preemie either, I just didn't get married to his father for my own reasons...and my son was actually 10 days late according to my calculations.
