Family vacation to Disney World in June. I have a meeting in Orlando then, so going to piggyback a family vacation to Disney. Of course, I should probably start booking hotels and buying park passes at some point. Clear more clutter out of my house. It’s a very sloooooooowww process for me, but I keep working at it. Family vacation somewhere else- likely late July or early August. We’re thinking Colorado to visit one of my BFFs and her family, and DH’s uncle and aunt. We can drive there, so as long as we don’t end up with an unexpected work trip elsewhere that we want to piggyback a family vacation into, this will probably be where we end up. I want to do a girls weekend with three of my high school girlfriends. We did one last year at a lake house with our families, so I’d be game for that again, or a girls only trip. One of the ladies just remarried last fall, and has been pretty distant, so we’ll see if it happens. Or maybe 3 of us will do something instead of 4 of us. On the plane getting ready to take off for Orlando now. We are staying at the conference hotel and then switching to a Disney resort, so item 1 is in progress! Over 500 items (mostly baby stuff, plus some toys) out of my house, so making slow progress on #2. My cousin’s daughter is getting married near San Antonio in August, so we’re liking doing that for a second family vacation. We might still drive to Colorado as well, but not 100% certain. As for the girls weekend, likely not happening as one of the ladies is pregnant, but 3 of the 4 of us are attending our 20-year high school reunion this summer; so I’m excited to hang out with most of the group.

Want to get the new flooring in but things keep coming up. Just spent $1300 today for a new coil in our furnace. There went more of my flooring money. I loaned $3200 of it to the property account for a new AC in the rental property. Will get it back $500 a month I hope.

Oh, gee. I just read my post from early April and I would say I have been a failure so far.
The only thing I have accomplished is to start doing something about my health. Not much, mind you.
I have started exercising again, and it's been difficult. I used to do the whole 5 miles of a Leslie Sansone workout, plus the exercises at the end of the workout for abs, arms, legs, chest and back, without breaking a sweat.
Right now, I am only able to do 3 miles and I end up in a sweat. My body aches the whole day. And that's after a whole month of exercising 5 days a week. I had to start with 1 mile, that's how bad it was. Now I'm up to 3 miles but it's a struggle. Haven't done anything about eating healthier yet. I don't do well with big changes at once. I have to implement small changes every week.
A couple of things I managed, though they weren't on my list, is to take better care of my appearance and meditate. I guess having the determination to exercise lifted my spirit and I really want to look better. I take care of my hair, wear make up and nice clothes everyday, do my nails. People notice and it's nice. As for meditation, I just started doing it one day and kept going. I do 20 minutes a day, sometimes it feels boring, I think it's helping with mood and stress, but not sure. I'll give it more time.
What I am most disappointed with is writing. I haven't done much because I procrastinate and I can't find my motivation. It's something I really want to do.

A permanent job more along the lines of what I want to do, and not so much what I've done. A real vacation. That has a lot to do with DH. He still has a lot of issues with his hip, and I question if he can handle sitting for long enough. Less stuff in my house. Less fat on my body. More money in the bank. I've got the permanent job, and one part of it is one of the areas I wanted to get into. Not thrilled with it overall, but it's okay for now. Vacation to Orlando is booked for mid-month. I'm nervous, it's been so long since I've been on a plane. I'm nervous how well my kids will cope with the plane. YDS tends to freak out, and ODS is high-strung and very sensitive with his ears. I'd rather drive, but my DH can't deal with sitting in the car that long. Still need to work on less stuff in the house/fat on my body. I'm actually making an income, so I guess there's more money in the bank. I've been on a bit of a spending spree lately, though, so it might be a wash. 5 years of pent up wants, but mostly I just want comfy work clothes. I hate dressing up for work!

I'm not sure where to go with this. Seems like I should think more about such things. The new job is super demanding, not just of time, but of my headspace as I'm creating everything from scratching and fighting for the necessary staff to execute it. I am working 3 weekends this month with day-long meetings or conferences, and looking in the calendar for a break where I can schedule a vacay and I am not finding it in the immediate future. At least I will be clocking in some comp days to add to the bank I don't want to take a vacation where I am working on the weekend right before, I'd prefer to take a friday, weekend, whole week, weekend then maybe the following monday off to maximize my break. A friend told me research showed you needed 8 consecutive days off to feel the "break", so working on getting that - maybe twice (!) - this year. If I get asked to teach the same stats class I did last summer I will do it, I should ask about that so they keep me in mind/I know what is upcoming. So - a real break would need to be before summer if that is happening. The only thing I'm up for is lazy beach days interspersed with hiking and other long nature-type walks. I'm thinking maybe Puerto Rico near the el yunque tropical rain forest, or possibly Costa Rica. Would appreciate any info about that from some of our more frequent travelers! What would be a good vacay spot? So - I guess a vacation is my #1 wish list item. Then - house and garden projects, getting back on track with yoga, thinking about socializing more.....most of my socializing is career related - I don't think I have a social life outside of that to go back to anymore. I meet up regularly with my research writing group, former coworkers, do a lot of socializing at professional conferences, vendor events, etc. but nothing completely disconnect from that except for family stuff. So - I think I need to really work on that. Or is that something that just happens as you get older - especially as a professional? I was thinking of joining in with an old high school group of people since I only have 1 job right now and out of school, but after finding out who to talk to about joining in I did not pursue it. It is still on the table, but would be an investment of time, and some non-inconsequential money. Just wondering if I really have the time, I could make the necessary financial investment if I did, but it would not be small (3-5k) but if not now, when? Now - that sounds overly cryptic! We were very serious band people, I stopped playing about 30 years ago and would need to buy a new instrument, practice regularly for a few months, and then see if anyone in the network knew of a group needing my instrument. I guess my wish list would be that I could pick that up again. But the time investment would be intense. Just thinking of a twice a week practice might make my life spiral.... But I guess it is a wish! I will think about how feasible it is to actually try to do it. so - here's my list.... work is still demanding, but either a little more manageable, or I've decided to let it go a bit. I was hired for my extensive consulting experience. I drew up a master plan and staffing needs for execution. We are trying to fill positions now, but I am not going to kill myself because it takes them 6 month to approve each position. My boss is on board and says we just need to do a reasonable amount of work, and be clear on what isn't getting done. Such a great boss to have!!! I have the vacation time on the calendar for this summer! Yay! But - not sure I will take a trip or staycation/catch up on household tasks. I'm only taking one week plus the previous friday, so that will be a nice break but not enough to really go somewhere and still have enough time to relax at home after the vacation. Maybe I will do a longish weekend somewhere, then a week at home....? I'm open on destinations, so can just keep an eye out for any bargains. Any recommendations on finding spontaneous vacation deals?

Going to Montreal (sp?) is on my list of goals to visit! I'll drive the in my rv. But if the US gets much crazier, I'll move there instead. My dad was stationed in Montreal for a while.

Redo our master bath - paint, floor, vanity Pay off DH's student loan (almost $11k) Pay $7k off our HELOC Determine if building a house is in our budget or not. If yes, build within two years. If not, sell land (which eliminates the HELOC). Take a family vacation Goal 1 - Complete Goal 2 - Paid down about $2.5k so far Goal 3 - Paid down $1k Goal 4 - Getting multiple estimates next week Goal 5 - Scheduled one for July Goal 1 - Complete Goal 2 - Paid down $6k so far. I anticipate having this paid off in August. Goal 3 - Paid down $1k . Right now just paying interest because we will most likely sell the land that we used the HELOC to finance. Goal 4 - Decided this week that building a house is just too much money. Can we afford it? Yes. Do we want to spend all that money just for a new house? No. Deciding next steps now - DH talks about an addition to our house, not sure that really makes sense, but we'll see. Can we all fit in our current house just fine? Yes. We just want(ed) more space. Goal 5 - Kids and I leaving on a vacation in two weeks with my parents to visit my brother/SIL/niece; kids + DH + me vacation scheduled for July weltschmerz - I was just looking at going up to Montreal for a marathon in September - it's surprisingly only a 1.5-hour plane trip for me. How's the weather in mid-late September?

This is what I posted a few months ago. Meeting with the final kitchen designer Wednesday this week and we will make a decision on whether we are doing custom cabinets or pre-fab cabinets in the kitchen. Met with contractor a couple weeks ago to talk and get quote on preliminary work (ceiling, lighting and sliding door) before cabinets would go in. We are still moving forward just at a snails pace. My hope is to have the kitchen tore up in September. Kids will be back to school and it is still nice to use the grill outside.

I didn't really have any goals so didn't post them. The two I have are VERY general: keep the withdrawal rate below 3.5% and take two major trips a year. That 3.5% includes a lot of room for "stuff happens" items; if nothing happens, it goes into the grandkids' 529 accounts. So far, "stuff happens" has included replacing the hot water heater AND the wall oven. The wall oven showed signs of failure first and could have been repaired (the door wasn't sealing properly so it just wouldn't turn on) but it was 20+ years old and I could afford it. Then I found out what the installation cost since it was electric and the old one was hard-wired in. THEN the water heater died. I'd thought new water heaters and wall ovens would cost around $500 each but I think that was in the 1970s. I just made the final payment on my trip to Hawaii in November although I'll have about $1,200 in hotel bills and the tip from the cruise at the very least after I get there. I still owe more than I care to admit on my trip to the Galapagos (plus Bolivia and Machu Picchu) in 2020- have made only a deposit and paid the airfare. My second trip next year will be maybe 3 weeks in Europe at an Airbnb likely in Munich, airfare paid for with miles, so that shouldn't be the budget-buster the Galapagos trip will be.

@athena53 the Galapagos is one of my dreams. Seems like a great plan, one more expensive trip per year, and one cheaper trip per year (since your goal is to travel abroad twice a year).
I love reading about everybody's progress on their wish lists!

I didn't have a wish list. Aside from home repairs, it's turned in to two things.
Both things are David Crosby Meet and Greets. The first one has happened.
The second one will be in August in Kent, Ohio. I'm going for two reasons. I love the music of David Crosby and his touring band and Croz told me the show in Kent is special. I'm spending three nights there so I can take in the memorial at Kent State.
I'm guessing it's like seeing Paul McCartney in Liverpool. I had that privilege 3 times. Each time was magical and he was totally different on stage than he usually is because it was his home town.

I paid off my car! Finally, something where I am going to have less financial outlay.
The rest of this year is just spend, spend, spend.

I paid off my car! Finally, something where I am going to have less financial outlay. The rest of this year is just spend, spend, spend. I will pay of my daily driver at the end of this month. It is actually DH's car-I am going to drive it for another year or more before we buy one for me. DH has a Mustang he drives in the summer, and a Nissan pick up truck he bought last year. The truck is a Frontier, and Automatic, so I can drive it if I want/need to. I am telling myself we need to get to year end before we make any major changes/commit any large $$ amounts. I have $5,400 or so left on my HELOC. $900/month. Once that is gone we will have more breathing room. Then if we hold off for another year or so, DD will be done with college and our monthly outlays will go down significantly.
DD put her summer school tuition at one institution on her CC, and I have to pay for another class she will take from this month's budget.
I think I might just pull the trigger on a new refrigerator In October. I really hate my side by side refrigerator, and I don't think I want to go through the holidays with it another year.

We're nearly at the end of June, so halfway through the year. Any progress? happyhoix what did you decide in the end? thyme4change congrats on paying off the car! How is the work on the house going? Congrats on paying off your car too bean29 ! As I've said before, we redid our bedroom in April. Got new curtains + a reupholstered chair seat in May/June. The oven is still on the list, but it's not a priority. We're also having a bit of work on the garden done in the fall (righting what was dug up during last year's subsidence). That won't cost much. So here's my updated list:- fix up behind the house - new oven How is everyone else doing?

They still haven't replaced our electric box, and all the outlets are not hot. I think my contractor forgot about me.
There are also some things I was hoping they would clean up, but I'm down to the divot in the floor - get that done, because I don't know how to fix it, and it is the first thing you see when you walk in my front door. I will either ignore the paint problems, or fix em myself.

We are planning to travel more too, but closer to home. The main goal is to get either a pop up camper, or a travel trailer. We did get a SUV that pulls up to 8,500 so have a bit of wiggle room in what we get. The camp site for Myrtle Beach is already reserved for a week in July, so there is a bit of a time limit. Besides that looking at different campgrounds that are around 4-5 hours away for longer weekend trips. I want to get the up to the one of the dark camp grounds in September or October, there is one in PA that looks like it would be good. Not sure about how all these government shut downs will play into that. My summer break will be shorter this year as the school district is changing start dates from Sep to Aug, but I should have a contract over lap so two checks in one month. Well we got the camper and have our first trip in July. Was hoping to get at least one in before it but oh well. We did take a trip up to Baltimore and have been to six flags a total of 4 times. So it is a start.

I want to leave my step-grandson's wedding reception immediately and drive 2.5 hours home. I don't even want to go. No hail this summer that takes out the roofs and wrecks the cars. Not to mention the lost crops. Stay cool when it gets really hot.

a) not committed until you write the check. b) Boxing up everything is a great time to purge. It is very helpful. Also, we got a U-box, which worked out well for us. It was a great size, and not expensive. But, true to form, U-Haul service has been a nightmare. They took the box away, but are still charging us. I do suggest buying a dozen or two of the small moving boxes and real packing supplies for kitchen stuff. It will only add like 50 bucks to the cost of your reno, but is so much easier to pack and move around.

Goals for this year: 1. Apply maintenance free material to the eaves and gables of the house. It's in the budget so we should be able to get it done. 2. Sand the walls and paint my hobby hole. We've said for two years we're going to do it and we have some of the furniture that will go into it. I need to sand and paint the two Air Force lockers we bought to put in there. 3. Go on a vacation. We're really limited with my back issues and the dog. I don't mind boarding the dog for a few days, but DH feels bad about doing that. I'd like to go back to San Antonio, but I know I can't do the necessary walking to really enjoy it.
Zip, zero, nada has been done from my list! lol We've been busy with the rental, trying to get the contractor to finish it so we can get it on the market. Long story, don't ask. 1. The maintenance free material was installed and started to fail after three weeks. A new crew will be here Monday morning to remove everything that was done and do it over again. 2. DH and I are thinking about just having CertaPro come in and skim coat the walls and paint. We're so far behind on everything that we're not even getting to this project. 3. Vacation is booked for August. We're going away for three nights. A couple spa day is on the calendar.

We are slowly moving along with the kitchen remodel. I am about 1/2 done taking the ceiling down. Hoping to finish that next week so DH can decide on lighting layout. We have the contractor quotes to install the ceiling and install a sliding glass door to patio. Hopefully get that done in July. Met with the cabinet maker and he is going to firm up his quote - he came to our house to measure and go over the details on Tuesday. DH and I looked at sliding glass doors, need to visit one more place before purchasing. We started to look at cook top and oven - those are the only appliances being replaced for the remodel. Cabinet maker said it will be late October/early November for install if we decide to go with him. During that time, we will be making decision on flooring.

The best part of being struck by the tornado was that it required us to empty the second floor so it could be re-dry walled. This meant my son, who is a hoarder in training and was already pretty much out of the house at that point (living at college or in an apartment for his internship) had to come pick out all the stuff he wanted to keep, vs all the stuff I was allowed to donate to the salvation army or to toss. Without the help of the tornado, I would still have all his junk in his old upstairs room and closet. He is turning 30 this year. (I still have a bunch of his stuff in our attic - I've been taking parts of it to him every time we go visit )
So I'll really enjoy downsizing the junk in our kitchen cabinets, tossing or donating all the crap I haven't used in years. Hell, in decades. Trashing all that odd food we were given or randomly bought (muscadine whiskey jelly!) All the kind but useless decorative Christmas and birthday presents that only take up space. We only ever use about 5 pots, so why do we have 20?
I'll enjoy the kitchen when it's been downsized and it's done. I will NOT enjoy the actual physical act of pulling everything out of cabinets, determining if it has value to me, value to someone else, or if it's trash, and then hauling all the crap away. It's easier, and lazier, to just close the cabinet doors and not think about it for a few more decades.
I'll have to visualize the coffee cup cabinet without 40 coffee cups (seriously, for two people, that's 20 days of coffee cups!). The food shelves without the sticky, antique cans of weird veggies we never eat and that expired 5 years ago. The junk drawers (we have five - that's sinful) reduced to one modest drawer. I'll have to carry thoughts of that in my mind during the dark days ahead.

I am very happy to report that I bought a new refrigerator that should be delivered the last week of July!
The final straw to make me go shop for one was a cookout we had a few weeks ago for only 7 people, and all the food I bought wouldn't fit in the old side by side. I despise appliance shopping, comparing prices and options, and to make it extra difficult, we live in a house built in 1948 with a built in closet for the fridge, so limited dimensions. Found a stainless french door model, freezer on bottom that will fit. Cannot wait, I have not been happy with current fridge for ? 12 years, since day it arrived.

1. Carbon Ceramic Brakes Upgrade - $13,000 - $21,000 from preliminary research 2. Borla ATAK cat-back exhaust system - $3,000 (but can probably get for $2,000) 3. Tow hook - $100 4. Rotofab cold air intake - $500 5. Tony Mamo A10 ported throttle body - $500 6. Track Wheels - $3,500 7. Track tires- Toyo R888R tires - $300 a piece installed 8. Racing harnesses - $200 each
I can probably think of a half dozen other things (like Xpel protective wrap) but these are the big items.
