I know we've done goal threads in the past but to me this thread is lighter, ie not about saving 70% of your salary or maxing retirement accounts. Home renos? Travel plans?
I'll start. We are travelling to the US in April to see my family. We haven't been for a LONG time. No savings were hurt booking tickets.
We are hoping to redo our bedroom, which REALLY needs it. Savings would be hurt.
We are also hoping to replace my 9.5 YO car this year. We only have one car, DH has a motorcycle + a bicycle. No savings would be hurt but we would have a new loan. The plan is to get a new/nused car once the kitchen loan is paid off in 6 months. We are OK with having ONE consumer loan at a time. Assuming my car holds up of course, but it should.
None of this is definite except the trip to the US, which is booked. But we DO hope to redo our bedroom and replace my car this year.
What about you?

My wish list includes a soaker tub in my bathroom. I need to refresh the whole bathroom but the cost scares me all in one chunk. So I'm going to get the tub and tile around the tub done first. Then I'll watch for a sale on vanities, medicine cabinets and lighting.
I'm already going to Jamaica for a week, but I want to get one or two more trips in. One for sure in October and maybe one in March. This isn't counting my trip to see my parents in the summer.

Personally I'd watch for the sales first, then pull the trigger once you have everything. Plus if you're having it done, it will cost more to have them come back twice. ETA: laterbloomer I don't know if there is an Ikea near you but they always have good prices on those items. I like their things (simple, clean lines) although I know that not everyone does. When we redid our master bathroom (about 10 years ago) we chose expensive tile but we got the vanity, medicine chest and lighting from Ikea.

debthaven Nope. Several said no because they don't want to go back to where they've been. Others don't have money. A couple can't because of the time, but I'm sorta flexible on that and at least one probably would have the money anyways. Though the most likely time now is end of May and I'm kinda at that being 4 months away.

I understand justme. May is a good time to travel though ... what about your parents? I know you go on cruises with them.

I have no idea. It's a toss up between a "just us" trip (we already have two family trips planned - Florida and OBX) or finally doing some decorating stuff around the house. I really want to go to Aruba but time this year is going to be hard to find.

A permanent job more along the lines of what I want to do, and not so much what I've done.
A real vacation. That has a lot to do with DH. He still has a lot of issues with his hip, and I question if he can handle sitting for long enough.
Less stuff in my house. Less fat on my body. More money in the bank.

1. Spending lots of quality time with my dog buddy.
2. Finally getting my master bathroom remodeled.
3. Finally making up my mind about how to remodel the kitchen.
4, Finishing a couple of knitting projects. (I am teaching myself to knit. I have completed 1 project and have 4 in progress. I'd like to finish a couple of them. Then start more. I don't need to buy any yarn. It turns out buying yarn and knitting things with it are 2 separate hobbies. I've mastered the acquisition of yarn part.)
5. Maybe going to visit my relatives in California. I have other relatives in Kansas, but I don't like them, so I don't want to visit them.

Getting through my father's housing drama and eventual demise is my first goal. Once he's out of the house I'm sure the gf is also going to want me to get rid of all of his crap too. He's a hoarder of sorts with a full bedroom and garage full of crap! He has some childhood toy soldiers and an extensive collection of HO model trains which are probably worth something but to be honest I'll be surprised if selling them is worth the cost to clear out all of his crap.
The evil side of me wants to let her deal with it all.

Less stuff in my house. Less fat on my body. More money in the bank. I like that, sums it up nicely.
Our main one is finish that last rent house! Hubs said he is going to start on it soon as he finishes my sewing room. I need to put the trim around the floor, and paint the door and trim down there.
That will allow us more income, its all crème as the expenses are already being covered. So we are looking forward more to 2020.
I doubt we get flooring at our house this year but we can in 2020 just from the increase in rent income. It will be another $7k income a year, plus we won't be dumping all the other rental income into the remodels. It's the number of rentals we knew we needed. Hubs got all the others done then stopped to do work here. I don't blame him. Maybe a trip this year, I can't say. I would like to go on a cruise again, DD loves them, we have to see.
We had all our retirement income set up in Texas, everything done, everything paid for. We intended to enjoy ourselves. Then all this happened with his mom and we basically had to do it all again. This was not the plan. But it will work out ok. Just a few years later then we planned, hope our health holds out.

I loved traveling with DH but have been to Europe plenty of times on my own- sometimes exploring on a free weekend during a business trip, and most recently after his death 2 years ago. I returned to Iceland and also visited Edinburgh and Paris on my own. It helps that I'm an introvert, but then extraverted people have told me that when they travel solo they end up in all kinds of great conversations with locals or other visitors. It's enough for me to book the occasional specialized tour with a small group- a nighttime "Haunted Reykjavik" tour, a day trip to a small subsistence village in Greenland. To get back to the question: a cruise out of Cabo San Lucas in March and one between Kona and Molokai in November, both with UnCruise, which I love because they're small ships, focused on nature and US-flagged, meaning that their workers are paid according to US laws.

Another one who enjoys traveling alone. The first few times, I did go with tour groups but that was at least 20 years ago now.
1. Get my dad in to a better living situation.
2. Spend as much time as possible cuddling with Lucy Cat.
3. Getting rid of more stuff out of this house.
4. Figuring out what I want to do when dad passes. I really don't want to live in a rural town as I age.

debthaven Technically it was only 1 if you're counting while I've been an adult. My dad doesn't really want to do Europe. My mom maybe, but 1) that time frame is when they normally head up north 2) not sure she'd want to throw that much cash towards it 3) she doesn't drink and is more of an early morning than late night where as I am the opposite. I'm not totally against it, but not thinking it'll work out either. @athena53 I don't want to let it stop me, and it won't at some point. I'm to the point where the money isn't the big hold back like it used to be. It's not the solo part (besides that just meaning a lot more $$$) I've definitely traveled solo and liked it. It's the logistics of having to figure it all out. Every other trip I've done was either one city or a cruise - which are both way easier logistics. For this I have to decide on what cities I'm going to and probably what order and how many days....which is a lot of decisions for someone who can be quite indecisive!! I've looked at tours but I think they do too much.

good question! I have a few goals for the year, thanks for jogging my memory. I've had a lot going on lately. 1) thrive with Company T this year. I just made it thru week 1, and I can't even begin to explain how much I already feel like I'm home. 2) continue to pay down debt with the new paycheck (I know, not exactly quantifiable right now) 3) home improvement - a) split the HVAC zones between the floors. I really can't/shouldn't do anything else to the house until this gets done. b) price replacement windows. pulling the trigger is next year's HI project. 4) meet more YMAM'ers. any shot you're coming to MA while you're here?

I've completed one goal already, which is to start investing again into dividend-paying stocks to supplement retirement. The next big goal is to repair the half of my house that is sinking into the ground. (I've been saving much of my money towards that expense over the past few years hence why I had stopped investing per above) The next big thing is to fix the deck (several rotted boards). I'm hoping that won't be too expensive in which case I should be able to get that done this year too. At some point I would like a goal in my life that does not cost money

I have 2 weeks vacation that have to be used by the end of May (there's some non-official leniency to use it over the next month or two). I wouldn't mind if someone could pop in for a week of the time I'm there - just haven't had anyone take me up on the offer!

We are going to Jamaica for Easter.
An adults only trip to Disney in October to go to Food & Wine has been booked.
I hope DH can finally finish the patio and backyard this year. It rained too much last year.
We have a friend's wedding in July.
I would also like to get to Myrtle Beach this year. Whether or not my cousin gets married I would like to go for a few days.

That lets you see a little of several places, so maybe it’s not as overwhelming if you want to try a trip all alone next time. And since you aren’t packing and changing hotels constantly it’s less of the “21 countries in 6 days” feeling. Might even be something your mom could be interested in...

When I remodel my master bath, the existing soaker tub, or as I call it, the death trap, will go away. A nice hot soak is a wonderful luxury, but the tub is so tall that getting in and out is treacherous. I hope you can find a safe one or devise a placement that makes it safe to use. I'm just going to have a giant shower with a nice bench and lots of different water-delivery options. Not as soothing as a nice soaky bath, but less likely to kill me. You are younger and likely considerably more agile than me, though, so maybe it's not an issue.

And since you aren’t packing and changing hotels constantly it’s less of the “21 countries in 6 days” feeling. Might even be something your mom could be interested in... I have. Unfortunately for the river cruises the rivers have been very low lately and a lot of cruise companies have had to bus people between cities instead of sailing. So it could very well likely be a lot of packing still. And as most don't have solo cabins I'd be looking at like $3k for around a week which is $$$. I am looking at other cruises, but unfortunately the one I'd really prefer is in March and I don't think it's feasible for me get things together that quickly. My current thought of a plan is to fly to Rome on either a Fri or Sat. And then spend 3/4 days there and hop on a cruise on Wed - which goes to Pisa/Florence, Cannes, Palma, Barcelona, and Naples. Get back on a Wed and I would have 10/11 days to go to the rest of Italy and end up in Paris to fly home. But I'm not sure where to spend the 7ish days before I get to Paris. And I need to figure out an aprox cost of all that to see if it works.

Oh, right. My wish list
1. A whole family Alaskan cruise in June has been booked, although we’re still plotting excursions. 2. Replace the tile in the upstairs bathroom. It’s a whole 21 square feet, so DH and I can’t really both fit in there at the same time, so it should minimize the potential for divorce proceedings. We’ll repaint after the floor is done. I would love to strip the window and door trim in there, too, but it might be too much DIY. 3. Finally repair and paint the ceiling in the third bedroom. We’ve been dumping stuff in there since the roof leaked, but DD really wants that bedroom (she wants the built-in window seat. If she changes her mind, I’m turning that room into my home office). Either way I’d like to strip the wood trim in here, too, but there are 3 windows and 2 closets, plus the door to the room. It’s going to be a long project. 4. I think we’re getting new gutters on both the house and the detached garage. We’re supposed to be on the list for spring, but i haven’t heard from the guy since late September. 5. Win the lottery or receive an inheritance from a long-lost relative to help pay for 1-4. This is the wish list, right?

I have a huge tub but not a whirlpool. I asked the previous owner why, she said her husband would not put one in because they have to many problems. I'm sure she wanted one. I had one in our prior house and I liked it.
I've stripped a lot of wood. It's not hard but tiring. I use stripper on some and a heat gun on others. Some has a lot of detail and don't want to sand on it. You can do it, just a lot of work. I have 4 windows to do in a 1900 house, did 5 and a door year before last. Have to get back to work on that house.

1. rental home with my mom and DS 2. full-time job I don't hate that also pays decently 3. a decent summer vacation with DS - probably some combo of beach day trips and a few days at Hershey Park 4. a short trip with my friends 5. a tall, handsome man for hanging out and intimacy. Not sure how well that will work with #1 but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I am going to build in a shower chair that folds up to the wall when it's not in use and have the safety bars. I already have a double shower head. I'm incorporating the best of both.

Europe!!! I really want to finally go. It's daunting to plan by myself though. If you’ve never been to Europe and find it a bit daunting, I suggest looking at Rick Steves tours. We aren’t “tour people”, but did one a few years ago. There were several solo women in the group and they were great fans.
