You're such a good person! Thanks, but I'm kind of a resentful Good Samaritan, lol Sometimes, I resent the money I spend to feed the feral cats, the raccoons, the skunks, the squirrels, the birds, etc. If I don't do it, who will? They need help.

Don’t run your car in a closed up garage. You don’t want exhaust fumes in a closed up,space. It will be fine for a few days until the weather warms up a little bit. I would never run the car in a closed garage. I was just out there to take the trash to the curb. Was surprised that all the grime from yesterday had melted. I would like to go out Thursday, but am willing to put it off until Friday if it stays this cold. Schools are closing now for Tuesday and Wednesday including the two largest universities in the state. I didn't take the recycling out. It's too windy and I don't want to go get the bin to bring it back in tomorrow. So I will start a recycling box in the garage as the bin is full.

In other words, you are running a Cat House? lol some are born cat ladies, some achieve cat lady-hood, and other's have the cat lady mantle thrust upon them! My plan was to coast into retirement with the old mr. pup and when he passed away I would travel extensively for the early 5 or so years of retirement. I read the highlighted earlier today and later came across this and thought of you. Don't wait too long to travel or this could be you!

That's our forecast as well for Southern MN. They say we're going to break 20 year old records. Yep, Iowa is in the same boat, wind chills in the -40 to -50 range. Then late in the week it's going to be in the 40s and our snow is going to melt. I'm pretty sure "goodbye" and "see ya later" have officially been replaced with "stay warm".

I rescheduled Carrot's appointment. I feel kind of bad about it, because we literally have nothing to do tomorrow since everything is cancelled and now I'll have to take vacation and pull him from school in a few weeks to go. Oh well. Some guys battery blew up in the parking lot today and it's not even that bad yet, and 24 of the satellite clinics have already announced they'll be closed tomorrow. Not the one our appointment is at though.

More and more businesses are closing here also. Schools made their decisions last night and now businesses are closing, too.
Wind chill here is now down to -30.
This will cost me more for heat (I raised it 2 degrees so as not to have frozen pipes) and I'm letting the water trickle at the kitchen sink since it's on an outside wall. It's the only plumbing I have that is on an outside wall. I don't want the mess from frozen pipes nor do I want the cost.

The location where I work tomorrow isn’t opening until 11, and expects to close early, too. DD’s school is canceled. We’re debating French toast or blueberry muffins hot breakfast.

My wonderful DH is out of town, so I'm dealing with our weather issues all by myself (plus, of course, a house-full of cats.) Today was overcast and 64 degrees, but tomorrow is forecast for 68 and some sun. Then we're expecting showers over the next five days. I thought today would be cooler so I foolishly wore pants, but really wish I'd been wearing shorts since my legs got a bit warm when I was out getting the mail. As for our pantry, I am reliably sure that we've got enough edible items here to last the cats a month, the outside birds/squirrels 3-4 weeks, and enough food of various sorts to last quite some time. Of course, it may be weird, random meals near the end ... but we'll survive. I am not sure WHY we have 7 cans of hearts of palm, but surely we're prepared for ... wait for it ... palmageddon.
Warm wishes to those of you dealing with real weather.

Oh crud. We’re running low on Hershey’s syrup. DD will be very, very unhappy if we run out.

No visiting footsteps to the new box I put up on the front porch. I put in on the opposite side of the front room radiator hoping it would help with warmths.
Little paw prints out back again, it is currently -22. I worry about even trying to see if he is in the box as it might spoke him out of a relatively safe(r) place and he will scramble to less safe places and maybe not return?
the back yard box is under the porch steps, porch covered in snow, a double box with bubble wrap on top and blankets inside. And maybe he has a better spot for warmth elsewhere?
Animal behavior experts weigh in on this:
We've had light snow daily for a while now, so that is how I know about his curious patrol. He comes either to or from the back gate, walks down the path and out the front gate. He seems to just leap over the back gate and the front one got stuck ajar with snow. the paw prints only ever go one way, he doesn't seem to pause in place or double back, just passing through. Any thoughts on what this tells us?
He seems to come daily, and only goes one direction on his patrol. He's an unfixed male (based on summer sightings). Are we on the edge or his territory or just part of his route here? I'm hoping he has a lackadaisical home but that is a thin hope I fear.
Maybe there are others in the neighborhood who may have put out better shelters?
So worried, but not sure there is anything I can do.

relooking at the prints, not entirely sure they are new from yesterday. A similar footprint of mine is out there from doing the feeding.

We set a record low this morning. The old record was 67 years ago.
It's currently -25, feels like -52.
I am not leaving the house today.
It's still windy. If there are drifts on the drive, they can wait. It's too dangerously cold to be outdoors.

Rukh-the cat may have his own 'special' place where he can hunker down during really bad weather. I have had several past and present cats that I may not see for a week or two (or even three) who then show up for the evening group cat backyard meal.
The ones I only see occasionally seem no worse the wear weight and appearance wise and have their own special places somewhere nearby.

First accumulation since the deep freeze, the usual paw prints on the path!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

So happy, I was giving up hope, the temptations were untouched in the front shelter.....
