I mailed out the state taxes for us, and for my mom's return, this afternoon. Turbotax charges an addition $25 to efile them. My mom's taxes, which were zero returns, are now both submitted. I procrastinated like crazy for those. It's hard to feel motivated when there's no monetary reward for doing them. Plus, it just dredges up sad feelings.
Left our fed return for my DH to finish up and efile. It's been done, except for a last minute IRA contribution. Wanted to make sure that went through okay before filing. He can finalize the direct deposit information.

He can finalize the direct deposit information. You don't have to wait to file until IRA contributions are done. You can file in January, say what you're going to put in by April 15th and as long as you do, you're fine. That's how I used to force myself to max it. I didn't want to have to file an amended return.

I got money back from Federal and had to turn around and send it right back to the state to resolve being audited on my 2015 tax return. The federal part was taken care of a year ago. Massachusetts and Maine have two extra days to file state taxes due to Patriots Day being a legal holiday, though most of us refer to it as Marathon Monday.

It was down to the wire enough that we weren't sure if the 1-2 business days they required was going to cut it.

We didn’t have to write any checks this year!!!!!!! . Technically we didn't either. We charged the federal tax we owe. The cost to put the taxes on a card about equaled our % cash back.

Relieved they are done, even though we owed almost $3200 in Fed tax. We max 401k and HSA and since kiddos gone, seem to owe more every year. Got a $45 penalty for under withholding.
