As a friend put it when we were talking about the resolutions for the new year: ”Why change now? You just got used to the asshole that I am and made your peace with it. To change to something else would mean asking you to look differently at me and that’s weird! I’m good!” - or something along those lines. I think he was right!😂

Max my HSA which since my employer will be putting in 500 means I only need to do 125 a pay period. I was up to 80 so this won't be too difficult for me.
Plan to lose the 30 pounds I gained last year (after losing it before that) but this time to keep it off permanently.
Read more books. I need to get a library card for the county I just moved into this week.

I don't see any harm in making New Year's resolutions. It is a good time to take stock of where you are and where you want to be this time next year. So looking at it in those terms, this is where I want to be on January 1, 2020. The list is in no particular order. Getting more exercise, for example, is more important than losing weight although the two go together. - I want to eat more healthy . . . less fried and more veggies. I've never been more than a casual sweet eater, and I eat less sweets now than I ever did.
- I want exercise to be a part of my life.
- I want my house to be uncluttered and clean.
- I want house projects completed.
- I want to finally read everything on my Kindle.
Some of this will have to wait until I retire at the end of May, but I can make baby steps before then. Does this mean you'll stop adding new books or just not automatically download them? I have about 100 unread ones. I decluttered the read ones from my Kindle a couple of weeks ago. I have probably added 20 more since then. I just can't stop.

I guess I have resolved not to download any new books to my Kindle, free or purchased.

I guess I have resolved not to download any new books to my Kindle, free or purchased. Let me know how you do! I have Kindle Unlimited too, and I can always find something that sounds interesting. At least there's a limit to how many of those I can get at a time.

If any of the Kindle Firsts that I have access to every month look interesting, I know I will download those.

Isn't that the truth? Some of those are Part 1 of a trilogy or other series. Drives me crazy because then I want the rest of the books.

Email about Kindle First Reads for January. Instead of one free book, we get two free books. I got two books.

I’m also one who perceived the denotations of goals/resolutions/aspirations as being the same.
I need to get a more specific grasp on my goals. I do need a detailed plan, or I tend to ignore them.

I've gotten to where I won't start a series if I can't get the rest of the series free/on Unlimited. Not suckering me into reading the 1st one free and paying for the next 20!!

I'm just not really getting the distinction here? I resolve to x,y,z vs I plan to x,y,z, vs my goal is to x,y,z Is there some important distinction I'm not picking up on? it all seems the same to me. I go with resolution for new years because it seems traditional phrasing, but it doesn't change the meaning/intent to me at all. Just kinda like "merry christmas" I never really use the word merry much in other contexts, but keep the traditional phrasing, just cuz, traditional... I've always considered a resolution to be something I'm going to achieve "come h@ll or high water". In other words, failure is not an option. A goal is more casual to me. Something to strive for, but if I don't get there, it's not something to beat myself up over. This is how I've always looked at it too.

Same here ... a NY resolution is something I might have thought of on Dec 31 and suddenly decided to implement, because Jan 1 is a new year and that means I can suddenly do anything!!!
To me a goal or a plan is different ... it implies prior thought and having ALREADY been moving towards that goal or plan.
But, maybe semantics.

Money • Max 401k • Max Roth • Establish 5-10k EF • Have home ready to be put on the market • Maintain minimum payments on SLs plus about 200/month to highest interest rate. • Get better on paperwork/monthly bills Score going into Q4: 20%
Family • Want a real vacay this year – would be a first in 5 or more years. • Monthly event, movie/game night? It’ll be a tough sell I think! Score going into Q4: 20%
Career • Keep focused on kicking it at day job • Get to work on publishing research Score going into Q4: 75% (due to unexpected RI side gigs, nothing on publishing…)
Health Fitness • Get back to a mostly raw diet and daily yoga • Take up jogging in April Score going into Q4: 40%
Household • Get a better flow to weekly chores • Want to have each room reorganized and nicely staged • Gardening - yard/veggie/flowerbeds Score going into Q4: 60%
I'm checking in on my list as we get ready to head into Q4.... I give myself about 50% on this to date, which isn't that bad. Will try to regroup for Q4 and boost my results before NYE. How are your goals doing??

Hmmm.. I prefer to set my resolutions at the end of the year when it's more clear what I actually have a shot at. But, my financial ones for 2019 are the same as they were for 2018 - Max Roth
- Max 401K
- Gross 50K (for the 1st time ever)
- AGI under 26K
I accomplished all but the grossing 50K line in 2018 and it looks like that is going to be the way it goes again this year unless I really buckle down. Should have worked this weekend when I had the chance. OT will go away again until end of Q4 after next weekend and I can't work next weekend.

Money • Max 401k - Will end year at a little over 13k contributed • Max Roth - didn't happen • Establish 5-10k EF - ending year at about 250 • Have home ready to be put on the market o Not planning on selling, but that is my first goal in home improvements, in 2020 I will take on more what I want type upgrades – but could sell instead, who knows? Had some painting done, all 1st floor, stairs and upper hallway but otherwise bumping this into 2020 o I’m thinking to do a few things OOP to get a good appraisal, do some staging, and then refi with max cash out to tackle larger ticket items. Bumping this into 2020 • Maintain minimum payments on SLs plus about 200/month to highest interest rate. Paid an addition $1,200 to highest interest loan o Will see where the student loans fit in with the refi, but thinking may need all for maintenance/upgrading – there is a lot of it to do. Bumping this into 2020 • Will post more specifically on my money stuff when I see my new take home pay in 2019 • Get better on paperwork/monthly bills Did a bit better, more work needed o Filing/updating paperwork o Streamlining/cost cutting o Focus on what we really want/enjoy Not able to fund much here due to IRS debacle. * Monthly charity/societal contriubtion Did some but not enough, more needed here
Family/Social • Want a real vacay this year – would be a first in 5 or more years. Bumping this into 2020 • Monthly event, movie/game night? Did some, but Bumping this into 2020 for ongoing, increase, etc. • Weekly lunches with friends Did some, monthly is good enough I think!Career • Keep focused on kicking it at day job Done! o So nice to not have to think about job searching! Begging uselessly for a raise!!! • Get to work on publishing research Fail! But can/must pull this out by EOY!!! Will be part of EOY review at job. o Only take on teaching if I am up to date on household/paperwork issues and research No teaching but Rukh, Inc is here!!!Health Fitness ummmm....what's this doing here.... • Get back to a mostly raw diet and daily yoga o I’ve been very naughty since thanksgiving • Take up jogging in April * Early to bed/early to rise, 8 hours of restHousehold • Get a better flow to weekly chores Much improved, a little tweaking here • Want to have each room reorganized and nicely staged ...in progress o Purging room by room Some done o Painting Mostly Done o Staging Some done o Will tackle this on a one room per month basis Continuing this into 2020 • Gardening - yard/veggie/flowerbeds Bumping this into 2020Overall - not too shabby, I was honestly afraid to look, lol! Somethings did not happen at all, and after going through everything here, I think I did enough, and am ready to take on more in 2020. I still have 3 weeks to try to pull some of this together!!! Will think more about that! Health and fitness and a vacay will definitely get more priority in 2020.... How about you?

All but that elusive grossing 50K one. I'm at 45,777 right now. Have a bonus coming Monday (probably only about $400) and 2 more paychecks. I don't think I'll pull it off. The being down for several weeks and having no OT during that time hurt.

Resolve to: Stop tooting in front of anyone except DH. Stop buying decorative stuff for my house. I don’t need anything else. I don’t have room for anything else. I don’t need to spend money on anything else. Not lose my mind when my baby moves on to college. Send birthday e-cards to everybody Plan to: Finish my Google Educator certificate Complete my Continuing Admin License Start—officially—my DEd program Pay off ~$22,000 of student loans Double EF Find a damn landscaping company to accept us into their rotation. Get DD#2 to college Making conscious, healthy choices about food. Well, let's see On Feb 4, I ended up in the ICU for four days. I had two surgeries that week. Then I had two more surgeries for the same issue--one in May and one in June. Some of these items worked out, and others didn't.
--I definitely still toot in front of DH I do think I'm more restrained in front of others.
--Um, no, I don't think I controlled myself as well as I could have. I have new porch decorations for sure. --Honestly, I really struggled with DD#2 going to college. It was combined with a change in job duties, and there was a massive mental and emotional overload.
--No, missed a lot of birthdays
--did not finish my Google Ed cert. --once I finish the final that I have due on 12/9, I will be done with that. --this was a misconception on my part. The university I attend altered their scheduling. No one can start the program nin 2019, so i'll be applying for the 2020 cohort. --Nope, only paid $8K to student loans. We changed our mind and chose to pay off our F-250 early. That was $16,229.56 in payments of which $10K was extra. The other $4K that was supposed to go to debt instead went to the medical expenses I incurred.
--EF increased by 1/3. We spent way too much money traveling this year. --No on the regularly scheduled landscaping, but we did have a company come out twice for big cleanups. That has been helpful and will continue quarterly if we can't get on a monthly schedule.
--Yup, the baby selected a college and is there. She's doing well. We're proud of her.
--I was much more conscious about my choices, but it took until this month to actually hit a massive level of commitment and consistency. Part of that delay was due to my medical challenges. Part of it was due to my laziness. I'm on Day 12 of a program, and it's going well. Expensive but effective.

Some of this will have to wait until I retire at the end of May, but I can make baby steps before then. Many of these are my goals for next year, but it doesn't represent a failure on my part. I have worked on every one of these goals/resolutions except exercise. And I do think I get more exercise, but I am not getting formal exercise as in going to the gym. But I've lifted, raked, cleaned, and everything else almost daily. In fact, I had to take Tylenol for a couple of days because I kept climbing up and down and up and down the stepladder. I notice none of my goals are money goals. That's fine. Between retirement and SS plus not having to pay SS, Medicare, or state income tax, I am actually getting more than I did when I worked. That is without touching my retirement accounts. DH's money was always separate. So i am ok there. But next year my goal is to be more social. I am a happy introvert, but I do need to keep contact with the rest of the world. So I am working on that.
