Lately I feel like the only thing I am decluttering is my checkbook.

House is ready for cleaners. At least once a month, I am forced to go through what I don't put away when I get it out. DN3 asked me why I had cleaners if I cleaned for them. I don't really clean per se. I just get rid of the clutter and make it quicker for them. The quicker they can do this, the less it costs me.
They always tell me it's mostly cat hair they clean.

Closed on the HELOC. I don't know what happened but I had to wait for the paperwork. I had an appointment. They set the date and time.
I had to ask for the appraisal.
I have a 3 days to change my mind, but I'm not going to do that.
Will start getting painting estimates on Monday.
I finally know how much I owe from the filling I had done on May 7. I have never been billed but I got the EOB today so now I know my share. It's less than $100.

I pulled everything out of our freezer today, so that I could properly organize it and take stock of what we have on hand to use. I threw out 6 freezer burnt items, wiped down all the surfaces, and then placed all the food back in ORGANIZED. I now have a shelf of breakfast items, veggies & pastas (and popsicles/ice cream because I ran out of room lol), a shelf of meats, and a drawer of chicken. I took all the frozen pizzas and stuck them in the vertical shelving at the top. It looks so nice and I can actually easily see what I have on hand when meal planning now.

My event went well last week but I was so exhausted every night afterwards - especially Thursday when I went to leave to find my car had a dead battery 🙄 got it replaced and home after 2 hrs. the host of the event was very happy and already asked me back next year to manage + speak since she was unhappy with a few presenters.
I’m dog sitting for the weekend and have 2 Open Houses today at home so it’s nice to be out of town for a bit. I have some work to do today on MY business that will inevitably be punctuated with dog snuggle breaks.

I have a Monday list of phone calls to make regarding the house:
1. Schedule fall furnace maintenance, smoke alarm batteries changed & new garbage disposal installed 2. Call Medicare to see why my premium payment has not posted to my CC and what to do about it 3. Call to get estimates on painting the main level (no bedrooms) and to switch banister from solid to spindles

Yard sale went pretty well today. I think I'll list the furniture items on FB Marketplace. They didn't sell today but I sold enough that I made $100.

I wanted to work this weekend on some fabric pieces but left a few essentials at home. It's not worth the trip into town for just those items so I'm taking the bulk of the work back home. I need to make up a box of "on the go" materials for trips like these, I clearly packed when I was too tired to think. I did bring some soft flannel pieces which I cut and sewed into burp rags for a friend whose baby is due in October. I made 6 of those for her and the rest will be used for packing materials for the move.
I'm working on the binding for my quilt because I'm not quite happy with it. I'll decide tomorrow if I want to fix or replace it.
Let me tell y'all... it's REALLY hard not to declutter or organize my parent's house while I'm here. I know if I do move anything I'll get blamed for everything they can't find for years (i.e. my entire childhood) but it's taking serious mental energy to block out all the boxes and piles and crap everywhere. This is one reason I am not unhappy about moving a couple states away... distance from the heap here is a benefit. I'll go back out to the jacuzzi tonight where I need to dodge a broken dishwasher, 100' of crown moulding, a picnic table, an ice chest and a handful of camping chairs.

I could not deal with all that clutter either startsmart I would have to have many breaks. Good for you for moving a couple of states away and you won't have to visit. My mom was a perfectionist when it came to house cleaning. If we messed up anything, we were in big trouble. I will never forget the time my sister dropped a jar of dill pickles on the kitchen floor and the hullabaloo that caused. My sister did not drop the jar on purpose and did not deserve what she got. My style has always been more in the middle. I can't handle perfection but I can't deal with hoarding type of clutter. I do have clutter but it's not to the point of hoarding. If I want to think my house is clean, all I need to do is watch an episode of Hoarders. I've never been close to that.

Put 2 bags of CDs/DVDs that had been in the basement in the trash for tomorrow.
No more until next week.

We got home 15 min ago. We did 19 hours of driving (830 miles) plus a 4h round trip train ride, since Friday mid-afternoon. I did my marking on the ferry. This week's online marking has been postponed again. I've unpacked and started laundry. DH took my suitcase to the basement. He'll unpack the groceries. We had a great trip, we saw all of DH's family but one cousin who was away for work. But driving that much in 2.5 days is MUCH too arduous (DH did most of the driving since I won't drive in the UK.) I wish I had taken tomorrow morning completely off.
I'm really looking forward to finally settling into a routine ... no guests or trips on the horizon. I really miss DS3 though, after having him home all summer. I did find 10 minutes on Sat to replace my Clark paddock boots. This week- pick up DDIL's package/whenever it arrives - get card for L/Tues - buy DDIL's other gift/?

LOLOL!!! TheO I shouldn't be happy about it, because I'm going to have to do it at some point (for EVERY class! That class just had the first assignment.) So it will definitely catch up with me sooner or later. For now I'm happy I don't have to worry about it this week.

So it's time for a new list. I'm going to give my self until Christmas for this one. 1. Install closet organizer 2. Paint den (these 2 are left over from the last list) 3. Install new backsplash in kitchen. 4. Refinish my fridge with stainless steel contact paper. 5. Paint kitchen. (Not as big a job as it sounds, I have a small kitchen without much bare wall space) 6. Paint living room, entrance and hallway) 7. Paint my bedroom. 6 & 7 are the big jobs on this list. I have not made any progress on this list, and I'm booked next weekend too. I have to figure out when to do this stuff.

laterbloomer I am in admiration of how you work FT AND you're busy most weekends AND you do this stuff on your own. Kudos to you! We found a VERY reasonably-priced painter through a friend. He did the two master bedrooms at a fabulous price, and he did a great job. They are our biggest bedrooms. He charged less to do the paint AND flooring than our old painter charged just to paint. (The price of flooring itself was not included of course, but we got it cheap.) Maybe it would be worth farming out ONE room? Dunno, just a thought. Obviously it would be cheaper to do it all yourself.

debthaven I've farmed out a lot of the work so far and used up the budget. Anything I spend on it now will come out of my vacation fund and that is NOT happening After this weekend I should be free on weekends for a couple of months. And the weather is cold so I tend to want to stay in more. None of them are long term projects I just need to get at them.

My house was a disaster, but I okayed a playdate for yesterday. I picked up, and cleaned a bit, but somehow the house ended up really clean without me killing myself to do it! My DH walked the kids through cleaning their room, and that really helped. (My DH always chips in but he wasnt feeling well). I'm still trying to figure out how this happened. I wasn't even going for this clean, but a level of not-embarassing.

Great job Lizard Queen ! I'm sure your DS was happy with his playdate too. I said I couldn't go to Book Club on Thurs. I refuse to leave the house on a weeknight this week.

Sounds like startsmart 's parents are hoarders, not people who "have some clutter". I totally understand wanting to sell the house she and her parents co-own, as well as wanting to put some physical (as well as financial) distance between them. Also, weltschmerz , I'm guessing you don't like clutter THAT much, or you wouldn't have gone through all your things before you moved to a smaller place. Not to mention the fact that you seem to enjoy portraying yourself as a clutterer on a decluttering/organizing thread. So I'm not buying it LOL.

My parents are on the path to full blown hoarders and are in denial. They have “collections” which means cars, car parts, hats, antique clothes and gloves, records, picture frames, China, books, furniture, antique telephones, camping gear, antique toys, glass fruit, gum ball machines, clocks, magazines, jewelry, and tools.
It doesn’t matter if they haven’t played a record in 20 years, they’re keeping the record player and hundreds of records. It doesn’t matter if my mom wears 5% of her jewelry, she’s keeping all of it. Or that my dad can wear one coat at a time, he “needs” 50 of them. The problem isn’t a few things left out, it’s that they have too many things. The problem isn’t trash, it’s “nice” things that end up looking trashy because they’re not being used but can’t be thrown away or donated.
In good news we did get an offer on the house and will be submitting a counter offer this week.

Congrats on the offer and I hope you can work out a suitable contract.
Too many things do like trashy, which is why I am doing the decluttering. Sometimes it is hard to let certain things go but I really don't want my heirs to inherit a total disaster to clean out.

I do tend to find things in the oddest places.

As I plan my new house I’m am getting really clear about what’s important to me and the “zones” I want to create. I do need a home office for my company but it can be rather small. I would like a sewing space so I can make more quilts and crafts. And I would love a big pantry off the kitchen for food and appliances so my kitchen can be quite uncluttered. Aside from bookshelves and a bed that’s all I need right now.
