Thank you for your work on this, tractor! DH & I were both born in the Midwest, and we frequently take road trips. We both noticed this year that there weren't as many Monarchs, which was surprising, first, because we took more trips than usual, and second, they usually fly along the different highways we drive on.

My cousin was just here visiting and he commented on how the ditches in Minnesota are no longer being sprayed by herbicides. I don't know if this is in response to the rapid decline of pollinators or if it is a cost saving measure by counties/townships. He also mentioned that the Canadian thistle problem has exploded at the same time.
In my state, the state parks have all planted pollinator plots in an attempt to help support the population. I planted a large hedge of State Fair zinnias this past summer. I had a fantastic show all summer long, watching bees, butterflies and other insects gorge themselves on pollen.
Here in farm country, people are waking up to the decline of the pollinators and the cost of their absence.

I was at another round of meeting this week. Many state Departments of Transportation have joined in and I suspect we will be seeing a major shift in maintenance practices. It will take some time to really see the difference, but every little bit helps.
I had several people show me videos of the mass monarch migration out of Michigan this year. They were amazing, unfortunately they didn’t come through my place. Maybe next year...

Well, here I go again. I have been asked to be on a technical panel for the House pollinator caucus. So next Wednesday I’ll be in front of House members presenting on behalf of the nations electric utilities. I hope c-span can put me in a good light...

Yesterday went great. I had several questions and was able to make it through my prepared statement without screwing up. It was quite an experience that I will remember for a long time.
The best part was my son came with me and hung out during morning meetings and the afternoon session at the congressional caucus. I can’t wait to do it again.
