I have been selected to provide testimony in front of two executive committees in DC next Tuesday. This will be my first time acting as a formal advocate for a national cause. I will spend the weekend preparing and fly out really early Monday morning for additional prep in DC.
Really excited to have been asked to participate, but pretty nervous at the same time. Wish me luck, it’s going to be a wild ride...

I’m kind of hoping it gets out of hand—Hearings are so boring. Good luck and congratulations!

Just a quick update for anyone who cares. Yesterday went great, it was quite an experience going from on federal building to the next, getting through security and having to give a very quick, to the point presentation at the risk of wasting some senators time.
I know it’s part of the culture here, but it would be so much better to be able to sit down and have a real conversation with someone instead of the rapid fire, all business presentation. That’s just the way things are done here.
Today’s my day off to wander aimlessly around DC, then back to more formal presentations to my peers for the next two days.

Nope, never even saw them. There’s so much going on in this town, it’s hard to know what’s, what. I could have walked right past them? But I don’t remember seeing any formal protestors. Do you know where they were? There we several spots with tv cameras and media in roped off areas, they were anticipating something. My general feeling is most protests are set up for the cameras, but most are largely ignored by the ten of thousands of tourists.

I think it is awesome that you were asked to participate! That says a lot about you and your character (all good!).
So does this mean you are running for President, come election time? (Wishful thinking.)
I hope you enjoyed yourself!

No problem sharing, I was presenting on behalf of a Monarch butterfly protection plan. We have support from the local level federal agencies, but wanted to make sure those “in control” in DC were aware of what was going on and did what they could to keep things moving along. I was there on behalf of our national organization to add a local voice from mid-America.
My background is in birds, bugs and bunnies and I am director of natural resources at a utility company.

tractor. I've been trying to attract Monarchs to my garden. GS2 was at a local Audubon center tagging Monarchs last week.

tractor . I've been trying to attract Monarchs to my garden. GS2 was at a local Audubon center tagging Monarchs last week. Ken-purchase some annual tropical milkweed seeds (Asclepias Curassavica) on line. The leaves top to bottom are tender versus perennial milkweeds (which only the very tops are). Monarch caterpillars will eat the leaves and the butterflies sip the nectar. Plus I think they are the prettiest of the milkweeds. They are annuals north of the immediate gulf coast. But you can collect the seeds for next year when the pods are ripe and the seeds exposed. There is some controversy about planting tropical milkweed. They will bloom until the first good frost versus perennial milkweeds that bloom far less. Here is what the tropical milkweeds look like . Also read about the controversy in the linked article. The controversy won't affect anyone growing tropical milkweed in the northern part of the U.S. or even where I live. Is Tropical Milkweed Killing Monarch Butterflies?
