I believe it was The Walk of the Penguin Mich who last year or so had to deal with a seller/shipper in Australia who sent her the wrong clothing and in the end the seller sent her the correct clothes and pretty much told her to enjoy/do whatever she wished with the incorrect clothes sent to her. That or they sent her someone else's shipment. The seller/shipper in Australia was out a hell of a lot more money on clothes than a seller of vacuum bags. Yes and no. The seller was in Australia, but I received a couple of expensive, very small swimsuits that I had not ordered. It turned out, after communicating with the Australian seller that the person who had placed the order was the one who stole my credit card # and placed a bunch of orders. However, the order got shipped before it hit my credit card and got declined (which was why there was a question of why I received the order). Timing was about 3 hours after the rest of the orders had been placed. I sent the order back, at my expense (it was almost $300 in swimsuits). The company wanted my bank account to reimburse me for shipping (those teeny swimsuits only cost $17 to mail) but I was reluctant to give it out so just asked that they give the $$ to their local food bank. They sent me back a receipt of their contribution to the food bank. Well I pretty much had it all wrong except for knowing it was you.

I didn't either. Currently I ordered cat litter. I didn't realize I ordered from a 3rd party seller. I ordered it two weeks ago. It still isn't here. I have emailed the seller through Amazon. It was supposedly shipped by Fedex, but no tracking information was provided to Amazon or me. I don’t normally do this, but use chewy. I am so impressed with their shipping, customer service, and stock that I wanted to buy stock in them last year. Unfortunately they’re a private company that was had been recently bought by petsmart. Not as fond of ANY of them.

If I understand no correctly, for debthaven, the real issue is the time and effort to send the vacuum bags back. A few years ago, I ordered some mango butter off Amazon. The container the butter was in was not properly sealed when I received it. My logical side said the weather was very hot, it probably just came loose, my paranoid side said I bought the butter to use in a concoction I'd be rubbing all over my skin, don't trust it. I e-mailed the seller and explained the condition of the butter and container when I received it. I also said that I didn't want to go through the hassle of sending it back for a refund, but since I knew they were a small business, I was just trying to let them know there was a possible problem with their packaging procedures. They responded and said they agreed I shouldn't have to go through the hassle of sending it back and they were going to refund my money anyway (which they did) and they hoped I'd consider doing business with them again in the future. I honestly wasn't asking for or expecting a refund, so I considered that a really nice gesture from them. FWIW, I'd be irritated too, if I were Debt. Sometimes the whole point of buying things online is the convenience of not having to go somewhere to get what you need/want.

God, what a mess that credit card scam caused. It took me over 2 months to finally resolve everyth8ng.

I've been told that if your pet dies and food/litter, etc. has been shipped, they have you donate it to an animal shelter instead of sending it back.

It’s those third party sellers that can be a real pain to deal with on Amazon . I almost exclusively use Amazon Prime option only . I’ve had pretty good results with that . But the last return I had , I needed up paying almost $10 to return a sauté pan that wasn’t the size listed in their description. I could’ve kept it , I guess , but the thing was huge and didn’t even fit on top of my stove .
Ive also heard that Amazon can cancel your Prime membership if you do too many returns . Has anyone had this happen to them ?

You can be a 3rd party seller and still sell items that are fulfilled by Amazon. If it's fulfilled by Amazon, then you deal with their customer service people who are typically more generous. If the seller fulfilled the order themselves, then you're generally dealing with whatever their policy is.
This is probably somewhat of a grey area for Amazon. Amazon's support reps are all overseas, so they probably view it as "Oh, you want to return the item, so the seller gave you the option to return it at no cost, problem solved". I had a recentl experience where a book seller mailed a book and required a signature. I tried going online to let USPS know that I just wanted to have them leave the book, but that option wasn't available and I needed to go into the Post Office. Sorry, but I'm not taking a trip to the PO to pick something up. If I wanted to make the trip, I would've gone to a bookstore or bought from another seller that didn't require the signature.
If all else fails, tell the seller you're going to file an A-Z claim with Amazon. That is a major ding to a seller's metrics and that will usually get them to act quick to avoid the trouble.

Received answer from 3rd party seller this morning. Refunded to gift card. Good thing I sent them a message.

I'm an a-hole. I'd just file with my credit card 'item not received as described' and let the cc fight with amazon or whoever.
Isn't there a law (though maybe in the US only?) that if you are sent something it's yours, end of story? I'd say you got free bags that don't fit and didn't receive the ones you ordered.

In the US if you didn't order it, you have no obligation to return it. I wasted 25 minutes trying to return a Kindle that I didn't order. I gave up after finding out about that law.

Yes, but in my case this was a small company and they were incredibly responsive in helping me track down what was going on. It wasn’t fair because this wasn’t their fault either. With one of the other orders, I received nearly $1000 in freeze dried food prepares buy for doomsday. Repeated phone calls to get this taken care of resulted in zilch. I finally gathered everything up, and took it to the food bank and gave a bunch to homeless camps. THEN they decided to contact me. I told them it was too late, I had given it away to those in need.

Absolutely this! It's NOT about the money.
In the end they emailed me a second time and told me they were refunding me. (The first time they said they'd only refund me if I sent the bags back.) I hope to send the bags back this weekend but we'll see.
The bags cost 10 euros, they told me postage would be 3.50 and they'd refund me the postage. So, it would cost them 3.50 to get the 10 euro bags back. I honestly didn't think it would be worth it to them.
I reordered the bags from another seller.
I DID learn that I need to be more careful about ordering from third parties. It's true, it's not something I've ever paid much attention to before. That's a good point. I also learned it's better to buy two packs at a time when I go to the mall. Thanks everyone for your comments. ETA: And there is no return label, I think it's a great idea to include one.

I'm glad you got a refund without doing the return.
I opened a package today from Dicks Sporting Goods only to find it had one pair of shorts I ordered and one that was nothing close. I did an online chat with them and they are sending the proper ones. I tried to buy them in store but in the span of two weeks they were gone and online only.

Yes, I'm just not sure why you're so mad at Amazon. They're just acting as a 3rd party intermediary.
You're right, I have never paid much attention to whether I'm ordering directly from Amazon or a third party. I will going forward, for sure.
I DON'T have Prime. I rarely need things NOW.
Last year I ordered an ink cartridge that was supposed to arrive in 3-5 days. It arrived 5 WEEKS LATER. In the meantime I had to go out of my way to a real store to buy an ink cartridge to tide me over till that one arrived. I gave that company a one-star review too.
The company actually emailed me to ask me to "please revise my review because they were a small company". Um, no. I checked when the ink was supposed to arrive, 3-5 days was fine, but it arrived 4.5 weeks late. I'm not going to redo my lousy review because it took them 5 weeks to send me an ink cartridge.
FYI, when a company has great customer service, I'm happy to give them a 5-star review.
We had a huge party two years ago for DH's 60th. His best friend brought over their firepit. DH LOVED it, so I bought DH one for his 61st birthday. I ordered the firepit and the cover. DH HATES barbecuing (although he does it reluctantly sometimes), so I intentionally did NOT order the matching BBQ grill.
Of course the company (wrongly) sent a grill first. The grill arrived in time for DH's birthday, unfortunately, the firepit didn't. Days later, still no cover. (DH was visibly shocked, but very polite, he's British LOL. Late that night he said, I'm thrilled with that giant BBQ grill, even though everyone knows I hate BBQing. But what am I supposed to do with it, it's huge?! ? So I had to tell him about the firepit LOL.) When I contacted the company, they apologized profusely, told us to keep the grill (they even said it was their BD gift to DH), and that they would be sending out the firepit cover the next day. Which they did, we got it two days later.
So I was totally floored at this company being so difficult for 10 euros of vacuum cleaner bags.
As many have you have said, it clearly depends on the third-party seller. Lesson learned.
