The bison meat you find in markets is from animals raised domestically on ranches and fed a specific diet, so it wont 'contain the 'gamey' taste that is found in the wild herds that feed on whatever's available to them in their environment.

That's what I was going to say. To me it tastes like beef and like some posters said it is leaner, so if you cook it too long it will dry out. buffalopassranch.com/this is a local supplier

Even if it is game meat if it is burger with all the toppings it isn't going to be a huge difference. DH served me a giant slab of vension the first time he wanted me to try it. There was nothing to really hide the gamey flavor of the venison.
I have a recipe for venison enchiladas that calls for ground vension. Once you throw it into the mix with all the various enchilada ingredients the taste difference is negligable.
Bison steak might not be something she'll like, especially if whoever cooked it didn't cook it properly. It has a lot less fat in it and taken past medium rare/medium it's pretty much inedible.

Bison is buffalo. It's similar to hamburger, but not as fatty and more gamey. I don't care for it. I tried it and didn't care for it much. It's Buffalo meat and suppose to be better for you, but they say that about a lot of other food just to generate sales. I prefer chicken, pork, then beef. You can look up Bison on the HSN network where they will sell you this stuff at a premium price. For the price they sell it for, they could at least toss in some hot-dog and hamburger bums with it. Remember how they made the claim that eggs were bad for you, then when the egg industry was hurting real bad, they started airing commercials on how great eggs are for you. Bison is just another meat producing plant tying to sell you a product at a higher cost. Buy a pizza. I'm sure there's a little bit of Bison in there somewhere. lol

At the State Fair, the bison farmers' group does a table and sells bison enchiladas. They're really yummy. DS loved them last year and he was only 10 months at the time.
they also have a flier with the farmers and who sells meat vs breeding animals. I think there's about 90+ in the state.

Bison is leaner and higher in protein than beef. For most people, that means healthier.

I've never had yak, but there's a place here that sells yak burgers. Also ostrich, kangaroo, alligator, elk, and antelope.

I love bison burgers. I find it much easier to digest than beef.
One of my BIL is a failing diabetic (failing in that his body is giving out because of the diabetes). Anyway they found that he could digest Buffalo meat a lot better than beef.

There is no such thing as kosher pork, and kosher also means nothing from the hind quarters is used.

One of the great things about bison is that you can then flavor it with the fat you're cooking in. One of my favorite things to do when I lived in the midwest was to get bison steaks and then cook them in a little bit of bacon grease -- it didn't take much to give it amazing flavor.

I guy down the road from me has a handful of Bison on his property. Those suckers are huge and there isn't any fence that is going to stop them if they don't want it to.

There is no such thing as kosher pork, and kosher also means nothing from the hind quarters is used. If the pig or cows is kosher, i think the anus and pother body parts are just as kosher since they are part of the animal being killed for consumption. And there is kosher pork. Just because one group believe that eating pork is a sin does not make it less kosher than eating lamb, chicken or beef.

Incorrect. To be officially "kosher", a product must carry the stamp of a rabbi. Otherwise, it's only "kosher style". Kosher meat is very specific not only on how the animal is slaughtered but on what parts can be used.

My friends in New Orleans love it though! I've never had venison that I cared for. But around here everyone says "Oh you've just not let me fix it for you properly" So I let them, I always try it, hate it, eat the side dishes and thank them for a lovely time. Rinse and repeat. UNfortunately i'm thinking this summer I'll have to try DBF's Dad's "venison prep" and see how much I hate that one

lol, now the Supermarkets are in business with the Rabbis before they can sell meat at a premium price. Regardless if a rabbi gives its stamp of approval, meat is meat. It all really comes down to what you are feeding them and shooting them up with. I don't need a Rabbi's stamp pf approval on what I feel I can eat. This is why my Jewish family don't follow into all their idiotic religious beliefs. Just as we don't believe in the Jewish people being the chosen ones. Just a bunch of religious rhetoric at its worst.

Sorry peeps I will go for a beef filet mignon, just can't take the chance that I won't like it. I am not very adventurous with food. I don't like seafood inc crabs and lobster, I don't like my food touching one another and there can only be one food at a time on my fork.

I don't like seafood inc crabs and lobster ------------------------------------------- I draw the line to the bottom feeders (crabs and lobsters). Gross eating critters eating other animals dropping. I prefer chicken over most meats, and then pork, last is beef, and I do love my BLTs with extra everything on it.

Doesn't matter if you believe them or not (I don't), but there is no such thing as kosher pork. The next time you're in the supermarket, take a look at a package of Nathan's or Hebrew National hot dogs ( I prefer them because they taste better). Printed on the package will be a small seal where a Rabbi has certified them as kosher. Go into a kosher deli and the owner will have Rabbi certifications for anything they sell as kosher.

I hear you MD, I just don't buy into all that Rabbi and religious bs. I'm sure if there was a food shortage these people that only eat kosher will adjust in eating what is offered to them. I'd rather eat and be happy that to be told on what I can and cannot eat. Without the sodium content in the Bison foods, they aren't all that healthy. I can enjoy a protein drink with all the vitamins and 0 sodium. Bison is just another meat packing company ripping off the consumers imo.
