I'd say I use around 4 a week. Mostly from the lunch cafeteria. If I'm eating down there I don't use a straw, but if I take it back to my desk I do prefer to put a lid on my drink as a precaution. When eating out, I rarely use a straw unless it's fast food or a milkshake.

A&W Canada announced Friday that it will ban plastic straws, saying the move will save about 82 million of the single-use products from landfills each year. The company made the announcement to coincide with World Oceans Day, adding they will be eliminated from stores by the end of the year. globalnews.ca/news/4263032/aw-canada-plastic-straws-ban/IKEA will also eliminate sales of single-use plastic items.

Seriously "Seriously" what? Asking the question serves no purpose unless I actually tabulate the data and compute an average.
Never mind, it's not important.

It might not be important but you are. "Seriously" you've overlooked toomuchreality in your polling numbers. Virgil Showlion I demand a recount!

I keep a bunch of those super thick bendy straws around for water bottles. In going out, I get them with my margaritas but I don't always use them. Lately I'm drinking beer so no straw. Dh drinks iced tea, no straw.
At home, my kids also have reusable straws but they don't use them a lot.
I have no idea if my kids are using straws with milk at school. But we definitely get them for the kids when we eat out. We still have spillage issues so I ask for the kiddie cups even though my kids are 8 and 10.
Short version: 2-4 disposable straws a week for 2 adults and 2 kids.
Eta my daughter says a straw comes in the silverware packet at school. So if you need a napkin or a spoon, you get a straw.
Updated, I'd guess my kids are using 6-8 a week at school, plus 2-4 when we go out or fast food for a total range of 8-12 per week.

Updated mean: 0.442 straws per day Data count: 36 toomuchreality: I've included your data point on the list. My apologies for not including you but: - Your image of a crying smiley in Reply #38 didn't mean anything to me. I thought you were "crying" because we use so many straws. I see now that you bolded a passage in the quote block. I use the "collapse posts" feature that collapses quote blocks down to a one-line summary and I'm not able to see such things unless I expand quote blocks, which I do only if I expect to find modifications. (Members usually include "answers inline", or "see quote" in the text.) In any case, best practice is to assume members won't automatically read the full contents of quote blocks unless there's some indication they should do so.
- "Seriously?" also didn't mean anything to me, nor did "Never mind, it's not important.". If mollyanna hadn't stated in plain English that I'd overlooked you, you'd be omitted from this latest update too.
Bear in mind you're working with an engineer here. We're an unromantic lot. We do "You've overlooked me." a lot better than cryptic crying smileys, "seriously"s, and "never mind"s.

Interesting aside, DD and I went through Starbucks Drive through yesterday. She got some sort of fancy late or something and got a cold drink cup that looks kind of like a hot drink travel cup. It has an oval like opening in cover to sip your drink. She said people order them by saying “Save the Turtle”.

So I go days without using a disposable straw. But if I go out to eat a lot of places give me a straw in my water glass and then another if I order a mixed drink. They also almost never reuse glasses so I'm getting a new straw delivered with each drink. I could easily be served 5+ straws in one night out with friends.
The younger kids that go out to bars several days a week could easily triple that amount.

Indeed. But everyone in America eating fast food with a drink an average of 1.6 times a day every day of their lives seems... excessive.
Does Canada not partake in the specialty coffee cult?Snort. Thy name is Tim hortons. But maybe they don't do much iced coffee business in the winter?

Seven of us went to late brunch today and six had straws. This thread has me checking out straw abusers.

Probably 1 every 2 days, depends on whether I go to town. I use none at
home only when out.

In a loud and crowded bar/club the bartender is usually off before you even finish naming your drink.

Considering I only get my lime 10% of the time and them putting in a straw is pretty much muscle memory, I have little faith assuming they even hear the no straw!
