Don't go to Hawaii either. All 4 of our car rental had roaches in them. Yeah, that's part of the story that the rental manager will probably be too polite to say, but there's no way to know that OP's family didn't bring the roaches into the house on their luggage. Not that the luggage would have had roaches when they left their home in colder places, but there are just so many places to pick up roaches once in Florida. It rarely gets cold enough in Florida to kill the outside roaches, so they can be in the trunk of a rental car, or on the baggage carousel inside/outside the airport, on the trucks that the airlines use to haul luggage to planes, etc. And of course they're drawn to baby/kid equipment, which no matter how well cleaned still smells like drool and food... YUCK!

Hi, I have been in contact with the senior manager of the management company re: the roach problem, and the other problems we had with the rental. She said to send her the texts and pictures that I had sent to their rep who handled the house for us. I did so, and waited three weeks for an answer. Nothing was forthcoming, and I am tired of contacting them five times and more, so I wrote a very honest review of the home on VBRO, telling the good as well as the not-so-good, and that will let others make up their minds as to rent from this company or not. As far as VBRO working for the customer, I did contact VBRO as well, and they gave me directions as to how to proceed. I did follow their directions and would up dealing with the management company. I have only good things to say aboutt VBRO, but ultimately, they are not responsible for the condition of the house ( other issues besides roaches were present, to say the least ). All is well, and we can hardly wait to go back to Florida next winter, hopefully for a longer period of time then.

I rented a beach condo off VRBO once and it was awful. The place allowed no pets and it smelled like piss. The AC wasn't working and the worst part it was in a development with owners who hated vacationers. If somebody jumped in the pool with a little sand on their feet, they were yelled at. If my two year walked too close to the hot tub, I was glared at, somebody else had an adult beverage and more rule citations. That was 5 years ago and I haven't gotten up the nerve to do another VRBO. I only get a beach vacation once a year and I need it to be relaxing.
I didn't complain or leave a bad review. It's usually better to just move on.
