The unfortunate fact is that corporate lobbiests influence the law making process more than the democratic process, now more than ever. Big pharma and the for profit prison industry have more to do with this change than the voters. The voters can only remove the ones responsible at the next election cycle. If they don't, the majority is getting what they want. That is what I meant. We are a Republic. If my Republican Congresswoman were to introduce/co-sponsor a bill basically allowing state law to take precedence over federal law in regards to distribution and personal marijuana use, I would reward her with my vote in the next election. If your representative or either Senator did the same, would you consider it a positive mark towards earning your vote?

Setting a precedent like this wouldn't pass muster through the Supreme Court. I don't know where you're going with this.

It would be interesting to see if the legal beagles could draft a law that would pass constitutional muster which allowed for a legal market for marijuana in all states which have laws that allow such to exist. Federal alcohol laws could provide a model.

Maybe sessions should pay a little more attention to opioids, since they kill people, pot doesn't. The drugs aren't the problem. It is the intentional misuse of them by individuals that are the problem. Opioid medications are safe, and effective drugs when used properly. The government has dropped the ball on going after doctors, pharmacies, and huge supply companies that misuse them. Pharmacies here refused to fill any pain prescriptions given by certain doctors. The doctors lost their licenses to practice in the state. Some went to jail. Pot will be legalized, and the Feds are going to regulate it with taxes, and tons of regulations just like they do booze. It is going to become more expensive than it was when it was illegal. It'll be cheaper to get drunk than stoned.

I doubt it because it is a weed, and anyone in a state where it is legal can grow a plant with $3 worth of supplies from Home Depot (and a window).

I would have nothing against this, providing that there is a way to measure levels of impairment for driving, or any other activity that would put others at risk in public areas as currently exists for alcohol.
