Well, a little bummed. I lost my part time job last week that I'd had for many years so this is going to hurt a lot going forward. I'm getting a very large tax refund this year, so I think I'm still ok on most goals, but as of right now I'm looking at the vacation and replacement car lines and viewing them as low priority stretch goals. Anyhow, last PT job paycheck (I was paid quarterly), completes the high school goal. This one should really be low priority too since it's high school for the younger (age 7) and I don't even know if I will send him to private like I did his brother, but I'll finish it out for this year and revisit removing it next year. Still waiting on the judge to sign the estate paperwork so I can write the checks and than hide everything for a year and not have to worry about it. Looking forward to catching a movie with my brother sometime this month. The water heater is scheduled and so is the appointment on my taxes. The HOA meeting is coming up and I am still happy with my decision to step down and let someone else deal with the circus.

I'm pleased to report I've come back for my first update, which also means I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. As I mentioned with my initial post (1/31/18), my first update would be the most significant due to my annual raise and bonus as well as tax refund, and then it would be a slow trickle for the remainder of the year. I just had no idea if I'd be able to stick to the plan or if all of the anticipated $$ coming in would be what I thought. I do have a habit of getting a little spend-y when my bonus and tax refund come (nothing crazy, but more than usual), so I'm also thrilled to say that I only used it to pay for my NYC Marathon entry, pay off some debt, and save - which also means I saved almost $12,000 in February and I'm just shy of 65% to my goals!! I also met two of my savings goals this month, one of which was really stressing me out and the other is something I never thought I'd have - a car fund. In the past I've always emptied my emergency fund to put a down payment on a car (I have to buy vs lease because of the amount of mileage I drive). This is my first step toward never doing that again. My car fund will be a sinking fund that's also used for maintenance/repair, but the idea is that I can get to a point where maintenance is out of pocket and I'm saving more every year in it. The end goal being to pay for a new car in cash in the future. As of right now, my car is only about a year old. So I hopefully will get at least 6 years or more out of it. I don't have a great track record due to my high mileage. At any rate, here it all is. idlechatter 2/28/18 18,415.23 (Goal $28,350) Savings Account | Goal | WIRS Start 1/31/2018 | 2/28/2017 | Difference from WIRS Start | % Met | Remainder to Save | Emergency | $5,000.00 | $4,019.49 | $4,619.49 | $600.00 | 92.39% | $380.51 | Car | $1,400.00 | $1.11 | $1,400.00 | $1,398.89 | 100.00% | $0.00 | Christmas | $1,200.00 | $0.78 | $650.00 | $649.22 | 54.17% | $550.00 | House | $1,000.00 | $0.47 | $0.47 | $0.00 | 0.05% | $999.53 | Other | $1,000.00 | $0.30 | $0.30 | $0.00 | 0.03% | $999.70 | Olivia | $1,000.00 | $701.08 | $826.63 | $125.55 | 82.66% | $173.37 | Dad | $5,000.00 | $904.60 | $5,000.00 | $4,095.40 | 100.00% | $0.00 | 401K | $12,750.00 | $875.42 | $5,918.34 | $5,042.92 | 46.42% | $6,831.66 | Total | $28,350.00 | $6,503.25 | $18,415.23 | $11,911.98 | 64.96% | $9,934.77 |

Dear Savers,
When I post the monthly updates/smilies, I quote my most recent update and edit from there. I work backward from the most recent post and edit the chart accordingly (that way I don't have to worry -- hopefully -- about getting the most recent figures from Savers who post more than once per month). And I save/post the edits to the chart a few times as I work on the updates -- because, well, have you ever had a message disappear into thin air? I have, and with the smilies, it's not a fun message to have disappear. And I tagged you all in the original chart, and it just dawned on me that when I save the edits multiple times until it's complete, you are probably receiving a notification you are tagged each time I save an edit. So I think you're getting multiple notifications you've been tagged in the same message.
Anyway, I apologize for that. Look carefully at the top line of the smilies. It will have the month of the update, and if I'm still in the editing phase it will say "in progress." When the final edit is done, I drop the "in progress."
Also, sometimes I learn I've messed up a line in the chart, and go back to edit. You may also get a notification then, too.
Happy saving, all! I hope that March saving "comes in like a lion" for you.

shoutouts part 2 of 2: chiver78 Nice work with 12.5%! Keep tackling that deck of cards!! azucena Thank you for your intro too. I think you do an amazing job of saving. And I appreciate seeing how you worked to get this far, and continue to evaluate to improve. Congrats on $1816 saved trimatty471 Nice work with over $1200 saved... I like your "countdown to payoff" line item, it sounds very motivating tobinikui Nice job growing your savings steadily and working on financial foundations. I look forward to hearing how zero dollar budget helps you as time goes on. I appreciate your intro... as you say you are unique and have unique challenges. We all do best when we can puzzle out what and how works for our unique situations. You were a champion at paying on time, and saw the need to get past that and build the financial future you want for you and your family! I also value this board so much as my place to talk and vent and be inspired! as they say...priceless! Jaguar Looking forward to your April update, the year she is a flying and it will be here PDQ. minnesotapaintlady That is a bummer to lose your long term part-time job. Good job that you have your goals well planned and can adjust them, but sorry you have to. Nice work with $2540 saved and nearly 12% Saving4Norway Thanks for your intro/endorsement of WIRSaving!! And nice work adding $1500 this month and a new total of $4K All WIR Savers: Keep up the good work. My apologies for the choppy fashion of the shoutouts. I am juggling 2 pet sit jobs and trying to adopt a dog that was rescued off the highway by a lady who can't keep him because her house is still almost unlivable after Hurricane Irma. So Baxter is a loving little hound dog/terrier mix but he'd like to push out Rusty our boxer boy dog. Today I took Bax to a shot clinic and learned he is heartworm positive. Poor furry buddy can't catch a solid break. Please wish Bax and me well that together we can figure this out. So if you posted a financial or other update in Feb and I missed you, please forgive the unintentional oversight and send me a message and I'll correct that.

I didn't play cards at all last weekend, waking up on Saturday to 2" of water in my basement and no power. that was all kinds of NOT fun. at one point over the weekend, we stopped for a quick pizza and a couple adult beverages at the sports bar. they have Keno, and I played for a timely distraction. well, I won $100 and took a large bill. I didn't end up breaking into it at all this week, so when I played cards yesterday I put the whole $100 into the pot and took out the two high numbers for this week and last - the King and Queen of Clubs for $48 and $52. Card | Spades (1x) | Diamonds (2x) | Hearts (3x) | Clubs (4x) | A | | 2 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 6 | | 3 | 3 | 6 | | | 4 | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 5 | 5 | 10 | 15 | | 6 | 6 | 12 | 18 | 24 | 7 | 7 | 14 | 21 | 28 | 8 | 8 | 16 | 24 | 32 | 9 | 9 | 18 | 27 | 36 | 10 | 10 | | 30 | | Jack (11) | 11 | 22 | 33 | 44 | Queen (12) | 12 | 24 | 36 | | King (13) | 13 | 26 | 39 | |

I missed updating on Feb 25 because of my conference. But thanks to the magic of auto-transfers, I saved money then, too! I have yet to officially sell the wagon to my friends. I can't find the title, and am not at the point where I want to pay money to get it just yet. That and I might be buying a house here very soon, and random transfers of money into accounts in the midst of the mortgage process makes people confused. Also, depending on how much I sell the house for, and how expensive the house I buy is, I might be able to blow my savings goal out of the water.

Mid-month update....pretty good on the savings side but also had to do some spending. I am retired. When I get paid monthly, a set amount goes to savings for infrequent expenses in addition to everything left in my checking account from the previous month.
Regular savings account $11010 (Goal before I start more long-term accounts $20000)
I also have a 457(b) retirement account from work. I started late with it due to circumstances and don't contribute to it any more. That won't be listed here.

DH is grumbling that I am sweeping too much into savings. He wants to replace our outdoor grill and a portion of a cedar fence in the backyard that is over 25 years old. I am trying to give him access to some cash and still put some in savings...no idea how March will end up! He has always turned his entire check over to me to manage. We have what is probably a high household income together, and he will still ask if there is enough in the checking for something that is $100...I have trained him well.

Took part of settlement I received and completed Q1 savings and in most cases spending goals, which is very satisfying. Still unknown what taxes will amount to. I'll change these to full 2018 goals, eliminating those that will no longer apply (lawyer, phone) and over time adding what may be missing. I think between weekly savings and the bigger picture I'll end the year in a much more comfortable position. Whew! Finnime 3/17/2018: $50,000 (Quarterly goal $50,000)

So then your beginning tagline would look something like this: Maryland Monroe, $11,010, 3/16/18 (Goal $20,000)And you would update the $11,010 when you add more money to savings. Since some of that money is for infrequent expenses, will you update with what you deposited to savings that month (tracking just the amounts deposited), or will you update with a running total (deposits and withdrawals)? There are Savers who do it both ways; it's completely up to you.

So you really have two goals here, I think. One is your $50,000 goal, and the other is your weekly goal, because you have two taglines. I think I should put both of them in the next smilie update. Can I call them finnime [1] and finnime [2] and put them on two separate lines?

That makes sense to me, seriousthistime. I'll split my posts in the same way. I had thought of combining the two but really the goals are very different, as is the saving process for each.

Okay I looked at the budget and I'm not into saving mode until July 31st. I got a bunch of stuff to do and buy including Shingrix shingles vaccine, getting my hair cut and doing Reiki for myself.
See everyone in August, unless I win the lottery, lol

Overall, I'm a bit ahead of the game. I've had 6 out of 26 paychecks, but have earned my 25% star. Weekly Savings chart: $11 | $12 | $13 | $14 | | $16 | $17 | $18 | $19 | $20 | $21 |

I'm trying to shake things up a little with the weekly savings. I decided to knock out $57 and $22 this pay period. A higher number and a lower number. Looks like the week from $46 to $52 could use a little love. I'll see about that next time.

In the midst of setting money aside to pay a handyman around $1500 for fixing a leaky pipe and replacing all the drywall the leak had destroyed, automatic savings comes to the rescue.
