I hope your day is going better today, Mitch. Your home is now 'different'. It will take a while to get used to the new norm.
I once read something to the affect that a now deceased pet would want its owner to get another pet, when its time, because its owner had so much love to give to his kind and vice versa.

I bought one of these a few days ago... ($2.99 @ Shopko) I like it, but it's really heavy! Like concrete.

I really love that! Is Shopko a local store? I've never heard of it.

Thanks, guys.
The last few days have been really rough. Sheldon is probably taking it the hardest, and he has velcroed himself to me. I knew it was going to be hard for him, because he adored Harpo.
Now I'm left with nearly a full 30 lb bag of kidney food ($$$$$), and prescriptions that I just picked up refills on last week, and doggie treats. I called the vet's office, but they can't take anything back, which is understandable. Next call is to the humane society, but they don't open for another hour.
How is it that the place seems so empty when the dog slept most of the time?
ETA.....anyone have a dog on either thyroid meds or gabapentin?

When Gizzy died, I would have gotten another cat the same day, but the humane society was closed. My line of thought is that I wasn't replacing Gizzy, but just giving another cat a good life ASAP. Even though both Sheldon and Gizzy were/are ginger cats, they are nothing alike personality wise.

We have a "Pets for Sale" group for our town, but there is occasionally people posting things like this after the loss of a pet and they'll be others out there that need it.

OK, I scored a home for the dog food and treats. Meds not so much.
The 30# bag of BB kidney prescription food for him was $60, so glad to have found a home for it.

Mich, Sometimes a shelter will take meds. I'm so sorry for your family's loss.

Please accept my most sincere condolences for your loss.
Also, please be careful about advertising the meds as Gabapentin requires a prescription and is often used for pain. Despite what they say, orange is not the new black.

So sorry. Doesn't matter how often you've done or how much it was the right thing, it still hurts bad. Reaching out to find a place to re-home the food and meds is a beautiful thing to do.
