Since North Korea backed down "for now" Did Trump do the right thing by calling their bluff? Did Trump cause them to publicly back off?

Nope. Regardless, North Korea wasn't gonna do nothing.

No. China put a stop to it by telling NKorea they were on their own if they strike first and SKorea told Trump to STFU (so to speak) since they were not interested in going to war because he can't keep his asshole mouth from spewing stupid shit. "North Korea pulled back its threat to attack a U.S. territory, after days of trading increasingly bellicose rhetoric with U.S. President Donald Trump, and hours after China took its toughest steps against Pyongyang to support U.N. sanctions. " www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/north-korea-backs-off-threat-to-hit-guam/ar-AAq3obu?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=spartandhp. "SEOUL, South Korea — With his public alarmed by President Trump’s recent threats to North Korea, President Moon Jae-in of South Korea issued an unusually blunt rebuke to the United States on Tuesday, warning that any unilateral military action against the North over its nuclear weapons program would be intolerable. “No one should be allowed to decide on a military action on the Korean Peninsula without South Korean agreement,” Mr. Moon said in a nationally televised speech." www.nytimes.com/2017/08/15/world/asia/south-korea-moon-jae-in-trump.html

Since North Korea backed down "for now" Did Trump do the right thing by calling their bluff? Did Trump cause them to publicly back off? Let us not forget why they threatened to attack Guam in the first place. Their statement came just hours after President Trump threatened to unleash “fire and fury” on the North “like the world has never seen.” nypost.com/2017/08/08/north-korea-threatens-to-attack-guam/ President Trump was wrong to start the threats. It is fortunate that North Korea was willing to not follow through.

I don't think it mattered what Trump did or didn't do. NK knows they'd be crushed like bugs if they started anything.
I don't give Trump credit for anything having to do with NK, either good or bad.

If anything Trump called China's bluff...
North Korea backed down after China did it's thing:
www.cnbc.com/2017/08/14/in-north-korea-crisis-china-hands-trump-a-win-commentary.html
So, yeah, Trump gets a win (from a very dangerous play). Will that work again in the future? I don't know.
FWIW: I'm pretty sure other administrations have bantered around the idea of calling NK's bluff and FORCING CHINA to do something. I suspect maybe other administrations didn't call the bluff - because they worked some other sort of concession from China... as in "hey, you do this China and we won't force your hand with NK" I'm sure China has used the same thing with us.

Agreed. NK had a habit of saber rattling under Kim Jung Il. They never followed through then, either. They just roiled the water and wandered off. That's exactly what Kim Jung Un is doing. Like father, like son, apparently.

Trump was played by Jung's saber rattling. NK's are taught from birth that we are the enemy. They know they can be easily destroyed. We know that millions of innocent SK's would die if we launched any 'fire and fury'. It was just the new POTUS' turn to be a pawn in NK's game of keeping funds flowing to their military and nuke program to insure their survival, by partaking in bellicosity directed at us.
