I'm not comfortable giving my email addy to check out a site. Can you opt out later and not get emails? Ken-I imagine you can cancel your account which then cancels the emails. Yeah that. My old neighborhood used Next Door. Once we no longer owned the house, I closed the account and never received another email. For the site itself, I found there developments in it not really close to us. I find more benefit in my current neighborhood's FB page than the Next Door site.

We have one in my neighborhood in the Twin Cities. I like it a lot. It provides some good entertainment, but usually it's helpful about things like snow emergencies, and such. I've been able to get to know my neighbors a little better, and it can be a good way to screen out the neighbors you don't want to know, too. I've also been the recipient of some free stuff so that helps .

Thanks for all the feedback. The one available in my area encompasses a lot of miles and styles which definitely makes life interesting. No moderation at all so we have some folks posting seriously weird stuff about weapons and violence, etc. Lots of lost and found animals, animals for sale, housekeeper available, security specialist available (if you will let him in to examine your current security system), did anyone detect the nano particles from the contrail of the last plane to fly over, how is your supply of tin foil, etc.
I see a lot of folks over-sharing in the belief that posters actually are the nice folks nextdoor-they aren't! Talking about how you're gone every weekend to sell your art or dogs or visit the grandkids or whatever just ain't a good idea.

Wow!!! You're not usually so harsh, Tenn, so it's got to be REALLY bad for you to show your critical side. 😂 This popped up in my email box today from Nextdoor. It went to 34 neighborhoods in my zip code and a few outside the zip code: So I have to wonder who is missing. Marilyn Smith? A dog named Marilyn? If a dog, what is its name? What does Marilyn look like? Does she have two legs or four? Does it have wings? If four legs, what does it look like? Do you have a picture of the human Marilyn or the dog/cat/parakeet so your neighbors know what to look for. If you want help, how about some details. Turns out it is a dog and not Marilyn who is missing..

All right, I signed up. I didn't like that they want to mine all your contacts, and for you to use your real name. I used an old email address that I reserve for junk and an abbreviated version of my name, but still. Stuff on there: A couple lost pets, somebody starting a walking group, looking for service providers, selling some stuff, information about break-ins, restaurants, skunks and city council meetings, beach pilates advertised, bitching about fireworks (justifiably IMO), whining about yard sale signs not being written well. Eh, the walking group thing seemed cool. I walk on my own on my own schedule, however.

Now that I'm no longer consumed with our rentals I have some time to make a few friends.
I walk/hike 3x-4x a week. While I enjoy my alone time it's nice to have company for some of those walks.
I'd give it a try. If nothing else you often find that there's a lot of nice people in your neighborhood.

I still might sometime. It would be nice to meet some more people. It's just hard with little kids at home.

Our Next Door site has gone political. We have a city/county vote coming up, and someone saw fit to tell us how we should vote!
I'm tempted to the site, but they have provided info on a reupholster that I need, so will probably stick around awhile.

Ours blew up in the last election cycle because someone posted a letter sent to a lot of folks in support of a candidate COMPLETE WITH THEIR EMAIL ADDRESSES! About 200 addresses to be exact. It was a true %**@ fest

It was a true %**@ fest I have one and a couple people tried to be political (mostly pro Trump posts), and it was quickly shut down. The only time our site gets annoying is when a developer in trying to get land rezoned and then the sanctimonious bitching about home values being destroyed is endless.

Here it's good today because the usual crime related stuff got pretty racial. It is going downhill in the express lane and will accelerate as the daily alcohol (and other substances) consumption progresses. We have zero local moderation so it's the Wild West unless someone alerts the national team.

I just signed up. We live in a rural township that butts up against a fancy new development (McMansions on 2+ acre lots) so it is an interesting mix of neighbors. Not much chat happening, but I think there are only 200 or so homes in the township, about half of which are owned by elderly farmers, so I was a little surprised there was a site at all! I am a big fan of the "____ County Crime Watchers" page on Facebook for my home county. It's the best way to keep up with what all my high school classmates are doing these days. Are your classmates the watchers or the perpetrators?

It was pretty mild today b/c some of the crazies have to work for a living. This particular thread will be what I call a self-resolving problem because (A) Dirty Harry type fool will grab weapon and cruise around for 2-3 hours before getting really bored and heading home to watch sports or Game of Thrones or (B) fool will have a couple of adult beverages before grabbing weapon and cruising around for 2-3 hours with several possible outcomes such as (1) fool will encounter law enforcement and be picked up for DUI or (2) fool will engage with local citizen of color who will either (a) shoot fool or (b) call law enforcement. I'm hoping for an outcome without blood or bodies but we have a few folks yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater so who knows?

What are the people on this group smoking?
Someone on the group is trying to sell their beloved minivan. And BTW, it needs a new transmission. They want $13,000 for a 2003 with 157k mikes on it.
KBB gives a resale value of a very good van like this of $3500....for a van that does NOT need a new transmission!
