1973. What a great idea. Especially for pedophiles.

Never heard of it - but it sounds like Australia.

I think it's an island off NY but I could be mistaken. It's a movie after all!!

I'm not sure a pedophile being sent to an island of sex crazed men and then the nudity, violence, sexual violence, probably a little SMBD throw in - it is the 70's! -- is going to be titillating to very many people... I don't think that movie would sell.

oh. Rhetorical musings: So, where does one find enough sex crazed men who are willing to brutalize pedophiles for fun and entertainment while being confined/imprisoned on an island? What keeps the men already there from killing each other? Would this be like a job? Would they get paid and have benefits? Cause I can totally see an Island of sex crazed men banding together and building their own "community" and maybe not really bothering to kill any new comers to the island - even pedophiles. Just saying.

Escape From New York. God I hate that movie. Same exact premise except in 1981. Manhattan is turned into a maximum security prison. DH, of course, loves that movie.

Nephew is a CO in MA and peds are oftentimes segregated so they don't get killed, especially if they are priests since the whole fiasco with Geoghan.

Yes, but part of the question was how do you keep the people there from killing each other.

Actually, I'd be more curious how you'd get the prisoners on the island to kill anyone with any consistency... --unless it's a really small island with very limited resources. Prisons are small, controlled, areas. I can totally see how brutality would arise. But once you give the prisoners some space and some autonomy... there's no guarantee they'd kill anyone much less running around hunting each other for fun and entertainment. I'm sure some of them would set up a power hierarchy and run with that...
From what I read in the paper/online - the most violent parolees (or freed guys) seem to either kill someone they've known for a long time (their spouse, family, friend, or kid, or romantic interest) OR they kill random strangers. They don't go out hunting for people they don't really know but find morally repulsive.
Does intentionally setting up criminals to kill other criminals absolve society from any sort of moral/ethical accountability in the situation?

I still think that it's a viable plan. I've always felt Alcatraz should be for child molesters. They can't be cured and they aren't safe in a regular prison.
