Tell me, is this strange, Listening to KTAR talk radio this afternoon Monica Lindstrom expert legal analysis,
said that the Federal prosecutors were young and inexperienced, had not done a very good job of going after Sheriff Joe.
So if the DOJ didn't really want to prosecute Joe, is this one way to let Joe off the hook, still look like they did their job?
In a case like this I would have thought the DOJ would have brought in the big guns!

One is a class action lawsuit with no prison time if found guilty and the other a bench trial regarding misdemeanor contempt of court where a prison sentence is possible. Your link in the OP is about the misdemeanor contempt of court issue with the possibility of prison. On your thread titled 'Police Officer Found Not Guilty', you have a post with the link below about a class-action lawsuit which seems different than the court case you are addressing on this thread. So is it one or two trials going on concerning Arpaio?

I don't think there are two going on right now.
Both side have stopped calling witnesses, are going for closing arguments,
Sheriff Joe didn't testify.
This was quicker than most thought.

Joe cost us a metric shit-ton of money and I am glad he is out of office. I also doubt he will get jail time, but would love to see it happen. He would have to be kept in protective custody. I'm sure there are many that would like to get their hands on him in the cold dark night.

GUILTY!!!
85 years old. I hope he spends the rest of his life in prison, which will only be 12 more minutes if they put him into the general population.

I wouldn't think he would go to prison. The maximum sentence in this matter is 6 months in jail. Prisons are run by either the State or Federal government. If he gets time at all, it's most likely going to be in a jail run by local law enforcement - most probably the Sheriff's Office. Usually, the jail houses those who have been sentenced to one year or less. I wouldn't be counting on a prison gang going after Sheriff Joe. Now, the taxpayers are going to be spending even more money housing him. Although, with jail, the inmate can be charge with a per diem cost for his incarceration - at least where I live. I can't speak for Arizona.

I have always doubted he would get time. But I will dream. The guy was so corrupt and obnoxious.

Justice is blind, Sure you bet.
Why did the DOJ send in their jr. lawyer to Prosecute Sheriff Joe? Fairly high profile trial, Right?
You don't believe that the DOJ was hopeing to lose this? Do you?
I mean after almost three years of investigating Sheriff Joe, They could not find anything wrong.
But when A Federal Judge moved on to trial almost exactly the same thing, sudden the DOJ was forced to do something.
Other attornies speaking out about how bad the prosecution was,, As an after thought the DOJ might tried to use a legal aid!

No outrage for Trump strongly hinting at a pardon?

I'm so fucking pissed I can't even think about it or my head will explode.
He may have been "just doing his job" but after the second court order telling him to change his policies and procedures, he was clearly, actively, knowingly, willingly, happily breaking the law.

Well in that case I hope that Trump pardons him, gives him back pay for the trouble the Fed's have caused him.

yeah, I figured that already had a thread somewhere, so I didn't mention it.
what I really want to say about both would likely earn a break, even if it wasn't directed at anyone here, so I'll keep it to myself.

A pardon for a minor offence, before sentencing with a chance of no jail time!! Like it's a slow news day with a cat 4 hurricane. What a POS Trump is.

I have been away from media sources for a few hours. The Texas governor and senators had a request in to the president for a natural disaster declaration so that Federal funds can be released to address emergency needs with hurricane Harvey. The last I heard was that Mr. President was still reviewing the request. I am sure that review (insert sarcasm) was higher on his list of priorities than the pardon.
