It's not quite as bad as it seems, 1 ticket is frequent flyer miles, 1 paid cash and will get reimbursed for, 1 paying OOP. But BUSINESS CLASS. Yes, my credit card is on fire and those 2 tickets cost as much as a car. It is such a long flight - I think /hope it will be totally worth it.

I can't remember if I posted this earlier and I'm too lazy to read through 8 pages, but I spent $591 on a day tour from Iceland to Greenland and that takes place later today. I get a little loose with money when I'm in "vacation mode" and have made trips to the local geothermally-heated pool 3 days in a row at almost $10 a pop.
Oh, yeah- this being Iceland, fresh produce is CRAZY expensive. You know those plastic cups with some carrot and celery sticks, some pieces of cauliflower and some salad dressing that they sell at gas station convenience stores? I've bought two so far, at $6 each. This has been a wonderful trip (flying home Tuesday) but I will be happy to get back to Costco-sized lots of fresh fruits and veggies.

I bought these, and they are awesome. I can't begin to tell you how many pair of socks I've tossed because my toes can't stand them. After my surgery, I have some mild, peripheral neuropathy and certain socks irritate the crap out of my toes. These do not. The only other ones that I have found that don't are Costco's merino wool socks. Yup, I love them too. Most socks either slip down or irritate my feet and these don't (so far). I have been getting emails with discount offers so I think I'll order more. I'm going to have to check out those socks. Never heard of them

You will die at the food prices.

Breakfast. Had plenty of good food at home, but younger son wanted to go on a bike ride this morning so we biked over to the beach, rode around the key and ate crepes at a nice little French bakery. Picked up apples at the farmer's market on the way home so we're making apple crisp now.

Dinner last night and lunch today. DGS is staying with us and he wanted sushi last night so we went for Japanese food. After church we took a ride and as we were going home he said, "I'm hungry" so we went to Huddle House for lunch. Boy, can he pack the food away! He got a bacon cheeseburger with tater tots and a side of chili. Then on the way home we stopped at the farmers market and he wanted ice cream so we got that too. I'm full just thinking about all that!

Couple of nights at a swanky hotel in Chicago, Billy Joel at Wrigley and a case of 3 Floyds Zombie Dust.
It was a great weekend!

A Silver Spoon..
(technically silver plated)
We went to a flea market today and I found a serving spoon I liked.
Don't ask me where the rest are. I haven't found them since we've moved here...we're closing in on 10 years...and don't ask me to polish it...

An RV. There is one I've wanted for YEARS but I couldn't rationalize buying that type. I got rid of my oldie but goodie last fall and regretted it. Found my dream RV and talked them down to the high end of my price range. I've spent as many days traveling in it as I have at work the past month. And have been planning all sorts of fall/winter short vacations in it. To work up to my big one next spring. Totally useless and frivolous but I love it!

Business class tickets to Australia. I'm hoping to do this in late 2019; my professional society is meeting in Honolulu in November. The fares seem a little more competitive for West coast to HNL +HNL to Australia or NZ than the West Coast to Australia or NZ nonstop. It will depend on how outrageous the fares are and whether or not I have any major financial "oh, crap" incidents. HVAC has all been replaced, roof has 47 years left on the guarantee, car is 5 years old, and I start Medicare in early 2018 which will significantly decrease the risk of high medical expenses (I'm darned healthy but have a $6K deductible and a crappy network now). Fingers crossed. And, having spent my stay in Iceland at a wonderful Airbnb apartment, I'll be doing the same thing in Australia and/or NZ- lots cheaper than a hotel and much more civilized.

Not today but Saturday, wasted money on new glasses. My prescription changed a bit since I use a computer more now. So I thought I'd find a new pair of frames. Apparently I like the ones I have on so much I picked the same damn things. Really? And no I don't want contacts. Used to have them but they would pop out ALL.THE.TIME. from sleeping during classes so I gave up.

Every day for the last 3 weeks except the one day I had only gotten 4 hours of sleep the night before. It helps.
