Little Dog either snarfs the whole bowl before I put it down, or it sits there all day. many nights I'll come home from work and he'll be chowing on dinner (6:30pm) as I'm settling in to bed around 1130. but it's also pretty cyclical. so maybe that's the pattern Jackson is settling into. Maybe. He's always just picked at his food during the day and then eats an actual meal at night. I've just never seen him not eat anything at all until night time.

Was your dog maybe born in Spain or in a Spanish home? Spaniards don't have supper until 9 or 10 o'clock in the evening.

So looks like I'm going to get Macy on Thursday in the afternoon. She goes to the vet on Friday for a once over and then a long weekend with us before she has to get into our routine.

I went to the shelter website to copy and paste the link for someone and HOLY SHIT! They have a litter of GSD puppies! That's what I wanted when I found him. I love GSDs! But I can't leave Macy there and reject her like the last owner's. I also can't have 3 dogs. But they are so cute!

GSD? German Shepherd, but what does the D stand for? Dog? As opposed to getting a German man who herds sheep? I don't know too many people looking for one of those.

Yes, it stands for German Shepherd Dog. I always thought it should be DGS for Damn German Shepherd!

That's weird. You don't say Springer Spaniel Dog, or Poodle Dog.

Yes, German Shepherd Dog. I don't know why they are always listed like that either. I just roll with it. And they are so freaking cute! www.petfinder.com/petdetail/37663436And why am I up at the ass crack of dawn? Because my damn dog heard something outside and started barking. I hate it when he does that! Once I'm up there's no going back to sleep. He has no consideration for that.

So precious! But I do not need a dog. Want a dog but doesn't work well with my work hours and travel.

Maybe that's why. He's Doberman as well. How does that translate?

Maybe that's why. He's Doberman as well. How does that translate? Doberman is a name. Weimaraner is named for a place. Dachshund translates as roof hound or roof dog. Pomeranian is named for a region (Pommern) There are maybe 42-44 dog breeds originating in Germany.

well.......my roommate figured out why the golden has been grumpy lately. he had to help her get back up to her favorite spot in the bay window (we rearranged the living room when the new sectional came in). he said she has been smiling and happy since she has been up there today. so now I'm on the hunt for an ottoman we can use as a stool until we can get a few more pounds off of her. I feel like such a bad parent now.

See? For her, that WAS a big change. She liked her window, and then suddenly, she had no access.
I'm glad that's all it was.

me too! I guess I hadn't noticed that she wasn't really going in the window because I haven't been home with them long enougj to really notice. we have been out so much the past few weeks. but I am worried about the extra weight if she can't get up there anymore.....definitely need to ask about that on friday.
ETA, wait - it's not that suddenly she had no access. it's suddenly, she can't jump up there anymore. it wasn't a problem when we first moved the furniture. now it is for some reason. roommate said he picked her up and put her up there.

I have 2 sets of pet stairs if you need them. They're plastic but you can give them a try. Had them for Zeus but he no longer needs them and the girls will always make sure they are spry enough to haul ass.

you sure? thank you! I am really hoping this is just a temporary thing, she is only 2. a few extra pounds and a 5 mile walk this morning probably didn't help her case today. they are both going to the vet for shots and stuff for on Friday and I definitely intend to bring this up.

So I think Jackson is starting to calm down. He lays around more often at home. If I'm in one room and decide to relocate to clean or something, he'll get up and follow me to whatever room it is and lay down. He's still very alert and runs at the dog park and when he hears something outside he still goes a little ape shit. But his running back and forth like a wild man out of nowhere has reduced and he's just more calm in general. He's not lethargic at all and his check ups have all been great. I think we may be turning the corner on puppyhood! He just turned 10 months, so he's still got some puppy left in him. He's just not as hyper as he once was and he gets in less trouble. Yes!

Then again, unintended consequences of moving furniture.....

Really, this just made me think of our Golden and our Lab (both gone now) as they aged and began to struggle getting up on the bed, the sofa, or in their case a bench from which they could watch the front yard through a dining room window.

I wonder if it's her hips. Aren't they prone to hip dysphasia?

I've started Jackson on glucosamine already. The vet said it's never too early. I found a chewable with fish and krill oils and he loves them.

Well, I have Jackson's new crate assembled and collar and leash ready to pick up Macy tomorrow. Have the blankets for the bottom of the crates washing. Just got the new antlers, kong, and travel bowl for the dog park so that they can each have one. Just waiting on the other raised feeder which should be here by the end of the day tomorrow. We can limp along with just one if it's late. I bought a harness for her and a double leash, which should be here by Monday. I guess I can ride the struggle bus for a couple of days. I don't know why all this stuff ships separately if I order it all at once, but whatever. We're so excited to have Macy home!
