Good gracious, you guys need to clamp down on the hysteria.
We elected a president, not a dictator. The separation of powers and states rights are still intact, and he'll be gone in 4 or 8 years, sooner if he's impeached.
Congress can and probably will flip in 2 years. No amount of gerrymandering is going to prevent that if the majority of people are ticked about how things are running.
We have a pretty independent news media. Yes, it is possible to fall into a bubble if you only look at one source. But anyone who wants to be informed can look at news from a variety of viewpoints. This isn't going away, no matter who is in the whitehouse.
For the most part, the system worked as it should. People of all political persuasions were sick of politicians that were owned by the donor class. There were crazy outsiders in both parties, one of which won his primary, and then the general election.
You really need to quit screaming 'Nazi' every time your guy doesn't get in. Not only does it make you look really stupid, it makes it hard to have the kind of open dialogue this country desparately needs.

Did someone scream Nazi? I missed it. not even close. Sorry, but you are incorrect. See post above dondub. I had to re-read the entire thread to find it, as I did not think anyone had used it. Unfortunately, I imagine many people interchange Nazi with neo-fascist

Sorry, but you are incorrect. See post above dondub. um.....dude? that is the post don & i were responding to. so, you are using the person who is complaining about screaming NAZI as an example of people on this thread screaming NAZI. that's novel, but circular.I had to re-read the entire thread to find it, as I did not think anyone had used it. Unfortunately, I imagine many people interchange Nazi with neo-fascist consider this the opportunity to DE-conflate those terms. if i had meant neo-NAZI, i would have said it. there is no inherent racism in neo-fascist whatsoever.

But is it used as an insult because the usual insults and name calling fall on deaf ears now?

Let's go with your original post. Facism is one party totalarian rule. Trump didn't say he wanted to abolish the democratic party. He said he wanted to work with them. He knows darn well that he wasn't elected king and could loose congress in 2 years if he does a bad job. To claim that we are heading towards some form of totalarian government every time the party you don't like controls two branches of the Federal government is stupid, insulting an hysterical. I've heard this idiocy from folks on both sides of the political spectrum, and it is not helpful. Facism is a word that has been used for decades by burnt out hippies to insult anyone who disagrees with them. It is a very loaded term. You did mean to insult. And you didn't just insult right leaning posters. You insulted the men and women who fought and died to save our country from the real facists.

Look at North Carolina and the myriad political abuses there. It is both planned and systematic. North Carolina is no longer a democracy And that doesn't even include the efforts to strip power from an incoming administration.

You insulted the men and women who fought and died to save our country from the real facists. Considering that war ended 71 years ago there are very few alive that fought the fascists. What DJ is referring to is a neo-fascist bent that some can see. I bet that 'some' includes vets from WW II.
If anyone chooses to ignore the demagoguery of Trump, the assemblage of a billionaire oligarch cabinet, the demeaning behavior he brought to the political process....go right ahead. Others may choose to keep a watchful eye or even go so far as to attempt to open a meaningful dialogue about tendencies that keep appearing here in America.

Neo-fascism is a post–World War II ideology that includes significant elements of fascism. Neo-fascism usually includes ultranationalism, populism, anti-immigration policies or, where relevant, nativism, anti-communism, anti-socialism, anti-Marxism, anti-anarchism and opposition to the parliamentary system and liberal democracy. Allegations that a group is neo-fascist may be hotly contested, especially if the term is used as a political epithet. Some post–World War II regimes have been described as neo-fascist due to their authoritarian nature, and sometimes due to their fascination and sympathy towards fascist ideology and rituals.

i have no idea, but i can assure you, i am TRYING to analyze the situation, not INSULT anyone. Bull. no. Truth.Let's go with your original post. Facism is one party totalarian rule. Trump didn't say he wanted to abolish the democratic party. i never claimed that President Trump wanted to abolish democratic rule. He said he wanted to work with them. I've heard this idiocy from folks on both sides of the political spectrum, and it is not helpful. agreed. however, what i am asking from you and others is not a lecture, but some introspection and analysis.Facism (sic) is a word that has been used for decades by burnt out hippies to insult anyone who disagrees with them. edit: i never heard any of that growing up, so i wouldn't really know.It is a very loaded term. You did mean to insult. no, i absolutely did not. i swear on my (veteran) father's grave. And you didn't just insult right leaning posters. You insulted the men and women who fought and died to save our country from the real facists. this world is full of enough insult and injury without getting all bent out of shape about unintended harm, imo. and robbing moral capital from the graves of veterans doesn't dignify the point.

Do you really expect any traction on this? Similarly to my thread on NC no longer considered a democracy, if a perversion of our democratic principles favors their ideology, they won't care, and refuse to even admit the loss is happening. i don't know why people are so opposed to self examination. it is the only way to achieve greatness, imo. i guess we are destined to be small. sad. edit: i didn't answer your question, did i? yes, i expect the absolute best from everyone. that is how i am built. and yes, i am often disappointed, to answer the anticipated follow up question. Self examination requires the ability to admit you might have been wrong and that is a hard pill to swallow for most. Funny thing is that it also might reinforce your original position, but that risk...

As I just finished saying to a cousin of mine, first time we have spoke since the election...she lives in Sandy Hook..Ct so knows what real tragedy is..yes has neighbors who had young children were affected...but regarding the election..yes too, also leans strongly left...as I said in trying to understand election results...for what ever reason..we, she, I had no clue of how people in those red areas felt..how they may be hurting..not all raciest by any means and to over look what the man says..correct hard to overlook and understand but there must be a lot of hurt..Now we'll see if it was just words..or he is going to govern as he speaks...personally I...heck forget how and what I believe..we'll just watch...........and watch...........and as long as Moon keeps this place open.......watch ...........and maybe a comment...............or two.............................or three ..........................or
