Investing in top-quality dividend stocks is what a lot of successful investors do over their lifetimes. This class of investor has just one goal in mind while picking investments: stability in a company’s cash flow generation. In this environment of high volatility and low returns, it makes sense to look for the best long-term dividend stocks that generate consistent free cash flows, maintain quality balance sheets, and have the potential to protect their long-term earnings and dividend growth in the event of an economic shock. I feel the best dividend stocks to look forward are: Coca Cola (NYSE:O) P&G (NYSE:PG) Any Opinions?

Hi Gwen - I can't argue at all with your statement and certainly the two stocks you have picked as examples should be at the core of every ones initial portfolio - You did make an error on the Coca Cola symbol - It should be (KO) - (O) is the symbol for Realty Income - another great stock in its own right.

I have thousands of dollars of PG and KO through my Total US Index fund (#15 and #23 by volume) so I am definitely rooting for them, not that I have to, they are large staples that have been making boatloads of money since what seems like the beginning of time.
No clue what 2017 will bring from a total market perspective, if there is anything I have learned from investing is to ignore what the market does from a year to year standpoint and to keep a buy and hold strategy. Even though most of us have different strategy's on this board from index, to big cap to dividend, the one thing that you will see consistently is buy for the long term.
My goal every year is to invest x dollars because that is what I can control.
