Cinnamon rolls to eat while opening presents. I always seem to get the timing off on Christmas eve, and I'm scrambling to coordinate making the sweet roll dough, raising it, shaping it, second raising, baking, dinner before Christmas eve mass w/ carols at 6pm. And of course last minute wrapping or chocolate suckers to make/wrap for the stockings. The one thing that has changed is how early the kids get up - DS5 was up at the crack of dawn, but the older ones weren't so gung ho about it. When DD was young we always had homemade cinnamon rolls Christmas morning with Santa presents. Second rising in the fridge overnight is the way to go. I would get all the first rising done early in the day on Christmas eve. Then cover them with buttered wax paper and then saran wrap. They can stay up to 24 hours in the fridge. Remove from the fridge about a half hour before baking.

Homemade Chex mix is an absolute must have for Christmas. Actually I start making batches of it around Thanksgiving and go until about New Years. I have a ceramic Christmas themed cookie jar so store it in. Having the cookie jar is almost as important as making the Chex Mix. I got my Grandpa's cookie jar with the holly leaves on it when he passed away. I also got the pitcher that is covered in this weird plastic net type material, but he always had juice in that pitcher for Christmas morning brunch at his place when I was growing up. Christmas brunch at Grandpa's was usually my aunts homemade cinnamon rolls, chex mix, potato chips with dip. Why potato chips I don't know but they were always on the table. Then he would put out an assortment of cookies and candy that the neighbors/friends had dropped by. As people start their families I usually get them a Christmas cookie jar so they can store their chex mix.

If he doesn't have to be somewhere he'll happily sleep until noon. This morning around 9 AM, younger son (always up before dawn) didn't want to wait any longer to open presents, so stood in the hallway in his underwear playing his Oboe until older son emerged and begged for mercy.

DD1 is on leave, but basically 5 hrs time shifted. DS4 is on college time (wake at 1pm ) . DS2 popped in on Christmas eve; he was performing in a handbell concert before midnight mass, so DD1 joined him for midnight mass - they didn't get back til 2:15am. So it's not surprising they weren't up at dawn. DS5 fired his nerf gun at DS4, repeatedly. DS2 was on an air mattress in the living room with the Xmas tree, so DS2 kept stepping on the corner of the mattress in his excitement.

I like it .......... but it's so full of sodium that it's been years since I've had any Chex Mix. I like the Worcestershire flavor I also like a good fruit cake And a good mince pie So many things I like but have a problem eating. The joys of getting older.

- Toothbrush and toothpaste in stockings (since we give so much candy and chocolate)
I do this too and this year the person at the store condescendingly chatted me up about what an awful stocking stuffer it is . People seem to feel very free to speak their minds to me. The other day a random person told me I should wear two coats because I look "too cold". I replied "No, that's just my face". I you and miss you when you're not here.

Took DS1 to the airport, came home and removed the childproofing still up from last week (DS2and family left on Saturday) and now I'm vegging out. I do miss the bustle of my home full of people , but I enjoy the quiet too

Tradition on my dad's side of the family is to make French cookies at Christmas time. My mom still has the cast iron cookie iron to do them on the stovetop, though my aunt and uncle have converted to an electric iron. They look like mini waffles, and I think they're also called pizelles.
Mom's homemade sugar cookies are also a Christmas tradition - literally melt in your mouth. Thankfully, she'll also make them several other times during the year so we get them besides at just Christmas.
In H's family, they play The Christmas Game (so old board game) every year. My family does Uno.

Food - Oyster Stew. When I was young and money was tight, there were maybe 3-4 oysters in a bowl. This year, probably 15 in bowl.
Religious - Midnight Mass. Grew up on a dairy farm so this seemed like the only Mass we weren't "rushing" to get done with milking to make it on time.
Presents opening - Dad's side, it was: singing a few Christmas Carols then time to rip them all open. Mom's side: Youngest started, worked the way up to grandparents, EVERY gift passed around to let everyone see the gift.
