Pet owners: do you use these folks?
Are their meds the same as what I would buy from my vet, or some Chinese knock-off with dangerous ingredients?

I know my wife uses them for our dog. But that's all I know. Sorry. She left me and went to Europe.

My sister uses them for the dogs' heartworm pills and says they are the same.

For some meds, I found the local pharmacy was cheaper than Pet Meds.

I would never buy meds from the Internet, not for me or any pet. Get the prescription from the vet and go to a human compounding pharmacy. The do pet meds in any flavour you want.

I recall reading an article some time ago about how these companies are able to offer such low prices on pet meds. I do not remember all of the details, but I do remember that it was found that many of the meds, while legitimate, US-made and approved drugs, were expired. Expired meds are not necessarily dangerous, but meds can lose efficacy over time, so it would be difficult to determine whether the pet was getting the appropriate dose.
This was some time ago, so perhaps the on-line sellers have improved.

Out of laziness, I've never looked into using them. The vet was out of one of the meds for my old dog once and I got them filled at Walgreens instead. Signed him up for their discount card and everything. And now even though he's gone I still get junk mail addressed to Mr. XXXX the Dog. I also learned that for non prescription items (pads and salves for wound care, etc.) it was much, much cheaper to buy it off of Amazon vs. the vet or local pharmacies.

I've used them. They had to send a thing to my vet to verify the information I entered and it shipped the same day. I would totally use them again. And it's cheaper than the vet.

I have no idea about the price. And I doubt an online medicine place is really bad either. People use mail order Rx's all the time and I have never heard of them being bad just not very convenient sometimes.

I don't want to put words in GRG's mouth, but she and I live in the same area. we share a vigilance toward food allergies, although she's got it way worse than I do, and that kind of makes us a bit more focused than the average bear on what we put into our bodies. we also happen to live in spitting distance to NECC, and personally I won't be using a compounding pharmacy for myself or my pups until oversight to these places changes from what it was when NECC hit the news.

Sorry, chiver, but I trust a compounding pharmacy far more than the internet. I don't know anything about your NECC scandal. I do know that meds made in India or China and sold over the internet, are highly suspect.

A group of people all over the country died when they were given tainted/moldy drugs that were produced by NECC. I'm glad I had my meningitis the old fashioned way. I implicitly trust my compounding pharmacy in Beverly. They saved my fingers from being bitten off by a cat that didn't like pills.

New England Compounding Center. I'm happy you have a place you can trust, but conpounding pharmacies aren't all that common around here. NECC has pretty much tainted the label.

I've used that website in the past when I had a dog. Nothing expired, same package as what my vet had, etc. They verified with my vet.
We've taken down US based physicians selling bad drugs from China, chemo drugs at that. I'm not going to assume someone is good just because they have a brick and mortar store front.

Hell, a lot of the stuff sold on that site can be found at Walmart or Target.

I've just remembered that I have seen pet meds (specifically, heartworm and flea medications) at Costco. Their pharmacy is supposed to have good prices on human meds, so maybe their pet meds are also reasonably priced.

The mutt takes a thyroid med, and another for his spinal arthritis but we get them from the vet. We pay about $50 for a 3 month supply of those meds, about what Costco charges. Interesting though.....the eye vet gave us a script for tramadol to give the mutt if his eye ruptures. Same dose I have, so I'll be sharing with him if he ruptures before surgery.

Pet owners: do you use these folks? Are their meds the same as what I would buy from my vet, or some Chinese knock-off with dangerous ingredients? I used Costco for my late GSD Tara. Their prices were great and their turn around time was two days at most. Only problem was they mixed Sarah up with Tara on a few occasions but they promptly fixed things and it was rather funny. All I know about 1-800-Pet-Meds is they have been around forever so most likely they are ok. I know that when I checked their prices they were lower than the vet but higher than Costco.

The Costco Tramadol is about half or less of the vet cost and you might check the others as they are a lot cheaper here,at Costco. My vet did not care where I filled the RX. For the arthritis check Phycox if you give glucosamine - it's a bit more but worked far better.

For his meds, I have checked the Costco price vs the vets. They are comparable in price. Since we are sitting on way more tramadol than we will ever need, it makes no sense to fill a script for 21 when we have 180 of the same dose sitting in the cabinet.

LOL - when I was taking care of my late father here at home all three of us had a prescription for Tramadol. I used to call myself the Candy Man.
I'm just glad to know that I'm not the only one who takes care of my dog this way. It's been six months and I still miss her terribly. Sometimes I still think I hear her.

OK, I used to give my dog S (he passed away in July) Rimadol 25mg 2x a day. it is mildly expensive, so I looked for cheaper options than filling at the vet. I filled regularly with 1-800-Pet-Meds. I checked out if the drugs were possibly counterfit, and found that the pharmacy is licensed www.1800petmeds.com/pharmacylicensure.jsp and I remember them having some sort of certification from some Veterinarians association. My account says I last ordered from them 7/13
I also more recently used a Wisconsin mail order firm called Doctors Foster and Smith www.drsfostersmith.com/
It was recommended to me by my SIL and it was slightly cheaper and I always got the stuff really fast even with conventional shipping.
As someone else mentioned you need your Doctor to send a prescription. They always give you a song and dance about how the stuff can be counterfeit, but it is really b/c selling pet meds is a major profit line for them. The drugs from both suppliers named above usually came in the container from the manufacturer with a seal on it. I can't say that about the times I had the prescription filled from the vet's office.
The do now fill pet prescriptions at Sams club and Walgreens, etc. but they asked me where I got my pet med prescriptions filled and then told me they would not be able to do better.

I used 1800PetMeds for the prescription food our old foster dog needed. He had kidney failure and kidney stones and also a heart murmur, and needed a very specific pet food - one that is not generally carried by any pet store, or even by our vet. The vet actually recommended using petmeds to get it because they could get it to us more quickly and conveniently than the vet could. They did have to call the vet and verify the Rx, but then it was shipped to our house by the next day.

Right now, we are buying kidney food directly from the vet as none of the store carry what we need. It is kind of a pain in the butt to have to trek out to the vet (we go to one out of town, so it's a haul to go out there). It would be nice to get it delivered....

I got my cats flea medication from 1800-Pet-Meds the medication was cheaper there than it was at Walmart/Target and two times less than my vet who charged $26.00 per dose, also I'm pretty sure the Vet-Tech was high and there's no way she's getting near my kitty again!
