It looks like we're going to have to put down the mutt.
Friday, we got back from meeting a friend and he could not get up on his feet. We took him to the vet, she did blood work and suspected he had either slipped a disc (he has bad arthritis of the spine) or possibly some sort of brain issue. So she gave him a shot of steroids and by Saturday he was up on his feet. He wasn't 100% back to normal, but maybe 50% there. We had another appointment at the vet to go over the blood work, and other than mild kidney issues (which we knew about), everything else was normal. Xray of the back showed that his arthritis had not progressed any further from previous ones.
So back to brain issues. The vet thinks he either has a brain tumor that is affecting the proprioception (where he thinks a body part is in relationship to the rest of his body, because he could not seem to figure out which way to turn his paw to stand on it), or possibly a stroke.
He's pretty much back to where he was early Friday afternoon. Sheldon won't leave his side, I've never seen a cat so concerned about the dog.
This sucks.

UGH! I tried to take him to his water/food bowl (he's was on the sofa) and he didn't want anything to do with either. So I put him back on the sofa and laid him back down on his quilt on the sofa and I went back to the computer. I just heard a thud, and he jumped down and was doddering down the hall. I picked him up and took him outside to pee, then put the quilt down on the floor and put him on it rather than the sofa as I don't want him trying to jump down again.
We've not been able to get his arthritis meds down him this morning and his back is probably hurting too.
The mutt's TD's dog. I didn't think that this would be as bad as when I was dealing with my animals.....but it is.

TD got Harpo from the animal shelter and he was a 'young adult' when he got him. They told TD that he was about 2 years old. We are thinking that either the owners or the animal shelter knocked a year or two off his age.

Sigh.....I had planned on running out and getting TD a card and gift today but am really uncomfortable with leaving the mutt alone. We're supposed to go out tonight to dinner, he's had reservations for a month at our favorite restaurant but I want to ask him if he wants me to pick up something I can cook for dinner tonight so he can spend the evening with the mutt. Maybe it's just as well that I need to wait until he gets home, I'll let him make the decision.

Aww, mich, I'm so sorry. Sorry for TD, as well. It always hurts to have to say goodbye to someone you love, no matter how many legs that someone has. My thoughts are with you all.
