Have not heard on a time yet from the recruiter from yesterday morning. I did send her a thank you email this morning, but maybe revising down my chances of the third round interview. Talked with the person from the start-up medicine therapy management last night. He figures that the person he brings on could do this around a full time job for maybe the next year, but after that, they would need to be working on his position full time. He could start paying then, but more of a token salary and stock options for partnership, with real pay coming about 6 months after that. Still mulling it and talking to C about it, but I think it may not be right for me right now, but I'll keep in touch with him, and maybe something will come of it eventually. Got an email from the start-up health care company today. They want me in for a 3rd round, situational interview this Thursday morning. Basically, they'll give me a business situation and have me walk them through my process for handling it. Yay! Good going, Shanen! Hopefully, the start-up will work out for you. I love start-ups! Sounds like you'd really enjoy it.

Heard back from the recruiter (really, she works for the company in organizational development) from the dental offices (yesterday's first interview). Interview with the dentist owners is set for Monday evening (so as not to disrupt their patient schedule).
Current interview schedule looks like this:
9/11: AM- 3rd interview, healthcare start-up, business systems analyst 9/15: AM- 1st interview, university, administrator (HCDE) PM- 3rd interview, dental offices, director of operations

When this is over and you have a job, I think you should post a new YM thread... "Ingredients & How To For Successful Job Interviews." I think you've now had more practice than any of us and I certainly wouldn't mind reading your thoughts on what makes an interview successful/unsuccessful.

Situational interview seemed to go pretty well today. Now, back to the waiting phase.
I do have two more interviews lined up for Monday, one of them being another 3rd round interview.
*mini-whine* I have this dream of multiple offers, and if the company I met with today were to give me an offer before Monday evening, I would probably request to get back to them be Wednesday, but the truth is, I'll take an offer, any offer. Both of the organizations I've reached 3rd round with know what I am looking for and are fine with it compensation wise, so really, I'd just like a job.
Expecting the plumber today and trying to get a hold of someone at the dealership to figure out if it is safe to drive my car there. Because, you know, when you've been out of work for 8 months, your house and car, despite you having kept up on routine maintenance, need to have hissy fits and demand you spend more money on them. *end whine*
Okay, over that for now. On with the day.

On with the day. I hear you on that. It's been over 2 years for me and temp jobs just don't really cut it. On the plus side, I have 2 interviews lined up along with a phone session to schedule and an informational session with UPS for a part-time package handling job. Pay sucks but benefits are fantastic so I really don't care. I NEED health insurance. DH just started his very first dose of very expensive MS medicine this morning and I NEED the insurance. Now that they got rid of the pre-existing condition rule, at least here in Mass., I can get him right on. The stuff will be $5000 out of pocket!!! Yeah, no. My anti-seizure meds don't cost that much, thankfully. Not sure if I'll be able to afford them though once our insurance runs out at the end of the month. Our state health insurance has issues and I'm more likely to have a baby (NOT EVER) than to get put on it in a timely fashion. End of hijack. Sorry.

Update: 3rd round from last week: should know by end of week 1st round this morning: will hear if I made it to next round next week 3rd round from this evening: There's a superstitious part of me that is afraid to type this out. I think the job is mine. I have a strong suspicion that I was the only candidate to make it to the "meet the dentists"
So, we'll see.

@empressspunkles - and there is no hijack. It was decided a little while ago that this was happily a thread for everyone to post their job search progress and frustrations on.
Losing your current insurance is a qualifying event that will allow you to buy insurance through your state exchange, even though it is not open enrollment. That's what I did when my paid for COBRA ran out. In WA, I simply had to scan in my letter that said my COBRA was ending and attach it to my account in the health care exchange. I checked a box that said I had a qualifying event and signed up for the coverage I wanted. They reviewed my documentation and approved our coverage in less than 24 hours.
You also get a subsidy based on your current income. When you get a new position, you contact them and tell them of the change in income (and likely insurance) and they'll make changes to what you owe each month. But it does keep it affordable while your income is less AND keeps you from paying penalties when your income changes.

Thanks for the info shanen. And good luck with the dentists! I'll keep my fingers crossed.
On my plate for tomorrow is a tour at UPS for a package handler job, at 7 in the morning which I am not so enthusiastic about, and it's only part-time but they have great benefits so it would be worth it. I can work around a schedule, when I get other jobs. My cousin does it so I know I can do it too. We're also trying to get me into his facility but they're taking their time posting it. Then I have an interview at 3:00 for a job. Yay. Then I get to do an overnight test-bake for Panera on Wednesday from 9 PM to 7 AM, to see if I can stand being in the kitchen. Good news is I get paid for it.
Waiting to hear back about a couple of desk jobs. See what happens with that. Ugh. I'm off to try to get some sleep. Good Luck!!!

The Executive Assistant position that I had written off because she hadn't contacted me based on the timeline she had given me? Got an email today. Setting up an interview for Thursday or possible Friday to meet with the principal this position would support.

It is and I'm up to it. I move furniture, rip down walls and lug around a 140-pound weakling when we go out. (DH) I'm incredibly out of shape so I'm looking forward to it as a way to get back into shape. I want it for the health insurance first then the education benefits.
I have an interview tomorrow for a coordinator position. Then I get to sleep and work at Panera all night to see if I like being in the kitchen. I think it will be fun but I won't be back until Friday. I'm sleeping Thursday.
Good luck Shanen!

The one tiny possible job prospect that I have is held up once again.
And while there were plenty (being relative) of interesting positions that I applied to this summer, I got very few bites. Now that it's fall, it's like the Sahara. nothing. zippo!!
Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. I need to overhaul everything. In the meanwhile, I'm letting it go.
I find this process so demoralizing. but you know what? my kid was sick all week, and Since I am only part time, I stayed home with him all week. That's one benefit to my current job situation.

I hate job searching too. FWIW I currently hate my job. ETA: I don't hate my job so much as I hate the commute and the overal atmosphere of working in a place where we wait everyday to see who's leaving.
I was headhunted yesterday for a position that would be what I used to do. Mostly Lab work and process optimization. It's with a company I've never heard of but the money's pretty good. I"m just not sure I want to go back to 100% lab work....

I'm currently trying to decide how best to update my resume. I was all excited to put my shiny new PM experience and present myself as a junior PM but now I'm not so sure. I don't know if I like this job (it could just be this particular company though). I sure as hell don't want to go back to admin work though, if I can possibly avoid it. Maybe I can't. shanendoah, what would you say the average EA salary is at the moment in your area, since you've been looking? DH and I decided I should start looking for a job (he's already looking) and then whoever gets the job first can be the catalyst for our whole family moving, because it might take several months for one or both of us to find one.

I'm finally giving up looking for full-time day work and will be accepting an offer from Panera as a baker's helper. It's 3rd shift, which is fine with me. Human race is overrated anyway. Once I get situated I will look for a part-time afternoon job while continuing to do some online refresher courses and see what happens. It is incredibly demoralizing and makes me feel like a moron because I have absolutely no interest in being an over-trained and over-weening monkey. I have a worthless English degree but experience in other areas, but nope, not what we're looking for. I thought I sucked in interviews but feedback doesn't seem to agree. I'm going with the thought that because I don't jump up and down in my chair giddy with excitement over jobs details, I'm not "passionate" enough. Yeesh.

I've spent numerous hours, heck months analyzing what I did wrong. at each point, I would adjust my attitude and my responses to do better, but it's hard for me to be over the top bubbly. I think that might be perceived as not wanting it enough. So I totally hear you! I'm working on it. I'm trying to interact more with people IRL, and make each contact, no matter how brief a pleasant one. I'm trying to hone that skill that "people" people have naturally. It's hard when I work from home, and I see so few people.

I understand how much the process can get you down. You send out resumes. You hear nothing (sometimes, even a rejection would be nice). You get the call for the 1st round interview; you think it goes fairly well, you never hear back. Sometimes, you get feedback that basically says "you're perfect, but you're not even moving to the second round". It is HARD. You are putting yourself out there, and they are the ones with all the power. C commented that he was wondering if one of the reasons I wasn't making it past some in person interviews is that I do not wear make up. I don't think that's the case, mostly because I have not interviewed with anyone that much older than me, and also because I live in Seattle. I may not wear makeup, but I also don't have facial piercings or visible tattoos, both of which are pretty common. At the same time, my theory is, if they would not want to hire me because I don't wear make up, than that is not a place I would want to work. Firebird - most EA jobs around here top out at $65k. There are even more that think an office manager/EA should be happy at $45-50k. Occasionally, you get somewhere that understands what a good EA is worth, but it's rare. (Though not non-existent, as I am in the process for one position where they did not balk at my salary, which is similar to yours.) Edited to fix stupid spelling mistake.Update: Business Systems Analyst/Healthcare Startup: Decision by the end of this week Have not heard from them. This makes me suspect that I am the number 2 candidate, and their number 1 candidate has not officially accepted the job. Though there is the possibility that they made the decision today and won't be reaching out to people until next week. Updated update: Just got an email from the HR person I have been working with. Process is taking longer than expected due to some scheduling issues. She will be back in touch with me by close of business on Tuesday.Director of Operations/Dental clinics: Decision by end of week (I think, wasn't given a firm timeline on this one) Also have not heard on this one. However, I was not given a timeline on it; their organizational design person just said she would be in touch.
For both of these first 2, I will reach out to my contacts on Monday.
Administrator/University-HCDE: 2nd round interviews on Friday , 9/19 Interview today went well. They expect to be making a decision in the next 2 weeks. Executive Assistant/Pharm Lab: 2nd round interviews on Thursday, 9/18 (3 hours long) I was told I will be contacted Monday one way or another. At this point, this is the lowest on my list of positions I would be interested in.Business Process Analyst/contract job with the port: recruiter is submitting my resume No real timeline from the recruiter on when I would hear back. I do know the position is supposed to start on 10/13, so if nothing else, I'll know if I haven't heard anything by that time.

YAY @empressspunkles!
And honestly, I loved working swing or night shift because I never had to take time off work to do the things that could only be done during "normal" working hours. Also, grocery shopping at 3am was quick and easy.
