In an amazing quirk in the war on terror, Turkey warns a Russian military jet to vacate their airspace, and proceeds to shoot it down. www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/turkey-downs-russian-warplane-near-syria-border-moscow-denies-airspace-violation/ar-BBnnnBR?li=BBnb7KzSomeone has to come to their senses, and decide who's side everyone is on, and play nice with your friends. Turkey has to come to terms on whether they are pro war on terror and joining a strong coalition. If you are, you do not shoot down Russian military planes. Russia has to decide who they are fighting. Turkey is not the area you should be flying over provoking a potential friendly source. America has to decide whether they are all in on this war on terror. Based on recent footage attacking ISIS oil production and transportation, we have not been proactive in Syria or Iraq in the war on terror.

Turkey has been acting quite odd during this whole Syria war - they seem to care more about preventing the Kurds from gaining any power than fighting ISIS. But, of course, Russia has been acting like pricks since at least the Ukraine debacle. There's no real good side to take between the two...its like an American presidential election!

Russia has been acting like a prick ever since the end of WWII. And during WWII. And before WWII. Where the hell are those Romanoffs anyway? Oops! Oh, yeah ....

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-34913173Russian President Vladimir Putin has bitterly condemned the downing of a Russian jet on the Turkey-Syria border. He described it as a "stab in the back" committed by "accomplices of terrorists". Turkey says its jets shot at the plane after warning that it was violating Turkish airspace. But Moscow says it never strayed from Syrian airspace. Nato is holding an extraordinary meeting to discuss the incident at Turkey's request. Oh boy...this has suddenly got a whole lot worse. Turkey is in NATO and Obama is supporting them.......but what a freakkin stupid thing to do We may not like Putin much......but they are Slavs fighting Islamic fundies We need them on side. I'm not sure about Turkey's loyalty in this fight at all.... given the booing of the French National anthem. What happens now?

Can't really feel too sorry for Russia though as I can remember the passenger plane that the USSR shot down for straying into their airspace.

What happens is more same-o. There are dozens of sides involved over there, and no semblance of any definition of who is "us" and who is "them" for those in Syria, in their neighboring countries or in the international community. It's everyone for themselves and consistency has become obsolete. Just get a gun, a bomb or an airplane and have at anybody unlucky enough to get into your killing zone.

Opps sorry VB....I couldn't see one What on earth for? There has to be a plan and right now we need Putin keeping sweet. We may even have to form an unholy alliance. I think it arrogant and stupid of Turkey, I question their motives...and sincerely hope those pilots aren't dead as reported. We don't need to take Russia on as well as IS.

The plane had strayed slightly into Turkish airspace but the wreckage is in Syria....so Turkey may have violated Syrian airspace in shooting it down.
The pilots ejected and were shot at..... and at least one was killed by rebel forces...not IS
Putin is now going to pound them into dust.
If the plane had been in Turkish airspace...was it threatening anyone? This is a pointless escalation in a fight that is much bigger than this.

So, it's Thanksgiving week and my mind read the thread title as a typo that should have said something like "Russian shoots turkey".

I predict Putin will give it some lip service and move on. It's just one fighter jet that lost the fight. With oil prices near the low side of things, he will have little appetite for more expense.

The plane had strayed slightly into Turkish airspace ... Or was it testing Turkey's air defenses?

Putin reckons Turkey is supporting terrorism though that southern border We all remember ISIS taking over Kobane whilst the Turkish tanks just sat nearby and watched. Perhaps he is right and Turkey isn't committed to the fight.

Hellz ya, vman! They are pounding them to dust in Syria. Just ignore what is going on around Baghdad, just ignore Yemen, Central and SE Asia, and you for sure what to ignore what is going on in North Africa. Just pretend that parts of Europe haven't already been placed under martial law, because don't worry - our fearless leaders are taking it to them in Syria!

I know this is a serious thread... but... considering the time of year and stuff... am I the only one that got from the thread title, a momentary of a butterball turkey with a missile launcher shooting at a jet?

You all know how it is:
Russian shoots turkey? Not news.
Turkey shoots Russian? That's news.

I must admit that no Turkey attacked the Russian jet. Turkeys are quite docile and do not fly, other than flapping their wings very short distances to escape becoming dinner.

I wouldn't say the move was reckless or stupid after reading the article. As they point out: if you warn somebody to get out of your airspace, get out of your airspace, get out of your airspace, and they continue to violate your airspace, you really have no choice but to start shooting down their planes. Do you not agree?

It's not as if Russia hasn't shot down planes that have ventured into their airspace. Remember passenger flight Korean Air 007? That flight didn't even get a warning!
