Our neighbors that we share a driveway with just had their 40th wedding anniversary party. She had her gown, her veil, her cake top, even two matches thingies. Anyone remember those and the monogrammed napkins? A copy of her wedding cake to boot!! So cute.

I'm home from the cabin. I enjoy being home. We had a great time. My daughter and I were up giggling until 5 in the morning. I love it when we do that. We saw a lot of deer (had to wait for them to move out of the rode, so we could pass 2-3 times.) They were up close! Twice we had moose come wandering across our property. One of the times, it was a mom and a baby. So cute! We got everything cleaned up and put away/stored for the winter and all the furniture covered. Drained the pipes & put antifreeze in the lines. Drained the water heater. All that good stuff! Things went well. Had a safe drive home. With 3/4 of the drive left to go, we got caught in traffic that was stopped and backed up over 5 miles, on the freeway (around 3:30 I think). Ugh. Found out a semi had rolled over and was blocking traffic in both of the lanes, going the direction we were. Eventually they got it up on a flatbed, to tow it away. We drove past and saw it. What a mangled mess! I hope the driver is okay. Even though we had to wait, I'm happy we weren't involved.
HAPPY SUNDAY... ENJOY YOUR DAY! (((hugs)))

I like walking out of the house around 615am right now. It's dark but not too dark. It's cool but not too cold. It's damp but not too damp. It's just a really nice moment to remember why life is so damn good.

What great timing! I get off work at 4. Usually I'd just go home, cook, ect. But this Friday there's a dinner at synagogue at 6 so I need to find something to do downtown until then. JUST DID!! The annual coin show is 1/2 mile from work F 1-6, Saturday & Sunday all day!! So guess where I'll be (& without having to find parking)! Now I just have to do some updated research, set a budget, and do it on cash

Yesterday DH took my car for its inspection. Two years ago we had to do some preventative repairs so I was expecting something similar. But it was pretty painless. We had three small things to do, and it only cost 26 euro at the dealership which we had to go to for one of them. Not a bad price considering the extra running around it would have been to do it on our own for less.
This morning we walked the dogs together for an hour. It was nice and peaceful as we were out super early.

My daughter said she wants to carve pumpkins with me again, this year. We have so much fun! Sit around a large table, with all our supplies, our pumpkins and a glass of wine, or a cocktail and chat/laugh while we slice and dice the poor things. It's all adults, so things don't get too out of hand and there's not too much stress. Just a good time. It's fun to see how all the different ideas turn out, or if they turn out.
Did you know-
An Ice cream scoop works really well, when cleaning out the 'guts' (seeds etc) of a pumpkin? Much better than a spoon. Coating the pumpkin (inside and out, as well as along any cut edges) with Vaseline, will make it last longer? -Keeps it from drying out so quickly. Keeping it outside, in a cool place, also will extend "Jack's" life. If you cut the hole in the bottom to empty the insides, you won't have to worry about the top falling in. It hides the hole required to empty the pumpkin. Plus you can put the pumpkin over the candle, on a nonflammable surface and it will usually be more stable./easier to stabilize. If you poke small (about toothpick size) holes, close together, along the areas/lines you're going to cut, BEFORE you start cutting, it allows you to draw out and fit your pattern, to the shape and size of you pumpkin. Also it makes it so much easier to cut or score, esp round or curved shapes. It helps to avoid those long gashes, where the knife slips and cuts too far. A small knife usually works better than a large knife. It's easier to control. Placing a large puppy pad under the pumpkin, before starting, will help save your furniture and flooring. Plus it makes clean up a breeze! -Works much better than newspaper, because they are waterproof, absorbent, and newsprint doesn't rub off, getting all over everything. ENJOY!
PS I tried painting a face on my pumpkin this year, using glow in the dark paint that came in a kit, made for decorating pumpkins, because it was too soon to carve Jack's face. Here's what I found:
-The paint, even though it was intended for this purpose, and even though I cleaned my pumpkin's skin well prior to applying it, was very difficult to get it to adhere to the pumpkin- at all. Almost immediately, I gave up on trying to use the roller, that came with it and attached to the lid. Any paint that I did get to stick to the pumpkin, only would do so in small blobs, then would slide down/off the pumpkin. This made it impossible to make a defined line or shape. (much like what I imagine grape jelly would be like, when applied to a pumpkin - same texture etc)
The amount of paint supplied in the pkg was not nearly enough, even for very basic shapes, that were not large.
It took about 4 days/sessions of applying paint, letting it dry, then adding more, to get even a rough idea of a face. Each day I added more little blobs, hoping that they would stick together, forming the shape. That didn't really happen very well, Instead, the moisture of the wet paint, caused the dry paint to fail.
I wish I would have painted the face on first, with acrylic, or poster paints. Then applied the glow in the dark paint over the top.
The paint really does glow in the dark, esp under a black light. The effect is cool. The idea is great.
I would NEVER buy it again, for this purpose, nor would I recommend it to family/friends.

We had Parent Teacher conferences last night. Both kids got good reviews. It's always nice when a conference ends with "whatever you are or are not doing, it's working so keep it up!"

YDS, who has been grumpy and a little withdrawn of late (under stress due to college applications/missing his older brother who is now 8 hours away, etc.) really came through last weekend and was a fun travel companion to ODS's college Parent Weekend. Then, yesterday, he had his senior pictures taken. He chose the pond near our house as the setting (one of his most favorite places in the world and a place he often goes to to collect his thoughts and take pictures of the flora, fauna, and the cosmos) and was really relaxed and engaged during the photo shoot. He even had some really great ideas for shots and locations. I am going to miss him terribly when he leaves for college. He's my baby. I said as much yesterday and gave him a hug (in front of the photographer!) and he did not pull away!!! He's a good kid. Love you, YDS, to the moon and back!

I was able to take a long walk outside on my lunch break today. Beautiful day, and I returned to work without a care in the world.

My DH and I are talking about taking a vacation over the holidays. FUN!
(the planning process sucks, so I'm going to keep thinking of all the FUN we will have once we get through the hell of booking things).

Found my cooler that I only used one time and has been missing since (for about 6 weeks). When I asked if she had seen it, DD said I'll check. I'm sure I've seen it somewhere. Turns out my son in law has been using it for his lunch every day. LOL It got sent to their house with leftover food from a trip to the cabin. He saw it and adopted it. Although I wish I would have known they had it, I'm glad to know where it is and that I didn't lose my mind! (I really didn't have it). I'm glad it works well for him. Now I just need to find a replacement! heh. It's a beautiful day here. Perfect temp, sunny, nice breeze.

I had breakfast with my DD before I got ready and left for work.
Tomorrow is my mom's birthday and we ended up having her over for dinner tonight celebrate. (My DH flies out tomorrow for work just before dinner time.) DH ended up getting steaks and they really hit the spot.

1. Flash band at the pumpkin patch. So happy to see one local farmer able to resist developers 2. Had the talk with GS1 when I picked him up from Bart last night (came out for the weekend). The holidays will be extraordinarily light because of this year's outflows: ♤ 50k to DS for downpayment ♡ 10k to DD BF for downpayment currently on margin loan between 6-8.5% (yes he signed promissory note so it's really a loan that will probably be eventually declared bad debt) ◇ 15k to Alaska instead of savings ♧ anticipate 10k in home repairs So this year Black Friday is on Mastercard and Holidays are light ($100 adults, $20 kids) only to bring up the app this morning and discover $127 cash rewards!! THAT'S A WIN IN MY BOOK! 3. He needed a black suit for Thursday's performance & found one at Macy's for only $130.16. Waist is a little big (he's a 28" and it's 30") but fits everywhere else. He'll wear a belt .... unless DIL has time today

I got doggy kisses from my fuzzy buddy (my neighbor's dog) this morning when I went out to fetch my newspaper. She saw me and demanded to be let out to say hello.

Bunny has been at the vet's since Fri. The vet texted me late this afternoon to say that he's finally turned the corner and is doing better! He should be home tomorrow! DS3 finally sent off his college applications tonight! Yikes!
