I'm going on a roadtrip soon to visit my sissy, Dad, and BIL (the cat is a bonus) . Since I'm not huge into turning knobs and flipping buttons while on the road, I always make a CD or two with a playlist. Obviously the music has to be upbeat, and happy. This time I'm going solo so no one else to keep me focused. In the past I've done themes (Disney Soundtracks, movie sountracks, Metal head mania, 80's, old skool mixmasters) and have those on standby. But....I want a new list for this trip. Can't come up with a theme. (Bangs head on the desk) empty, useless, brain... any ideas? (Kinda thinking of a movie so bad, it's good theme - yanno - Pacific Rim, Purple Rain, Flash Gordon, Ladyhawke - I can skip the slow songs and just add the ones with a good beat)

I just drove to D.C. and back this weekend.
You want stuff you can sing at the top of your lungs to:
Born to be Wild Two Tickets to Paradise Running with the Devil Thunder Road Who Says You Can't Go Home Telegraph Road Ventura Highway Celebrate Me Home I Can't Drive 55

Whatever you do, stay off the "top hits" stations. The current constant is a song called "I Can't Feel My Face" which, while it has an insanely infectious chorus, is nothing but one big drug reference so you want to groove out and arm dance but you feel guilty doing so, Ask me how I know.

For some reason, all the songs from the 60s and 70s are imprinted in my brain. If I could reformat my brain's hard drive to get rid of the lyrics, I'd love it (I think my brain's running out of memory). However, since there is no reset button for my brain, I choose to play songs I can sing along with (especially since no one's listening).
Sirius has channels with songs from the 1950s through current, so you can choose your decade.

find a copy of Marc Broussard's album "Carencro" for the trip back. I always start a long drive home with that one, the first song on the disc is called "Home". he's a bluesy rock singer from Carencro, Louisiana, who grew up listening to his dad play the actual blues in his own band down in New Orleans and all over. awesome musician and guy in general.

How long is the trip anyway? Listen to a favorite band's entire catalog. Um........ I'll let you know if I have any good ideas.

I thought about doing all Journey, but Steve Perry's voices gets a bit grating after the 3rd or 4th hour or so... Oh, OH - why did the Broadway recording of Ma a La Mancha just pop into my brain?

I'd throw in some Boston & Rush. I'd also add some Dixie Chicks but you may not like country music.

Why not listen to some books instead? I have never been able to get into audio books. Never. As weird as it sounds, I actually get so distracted by someone reading to me (even when DH tries it at home) that I have a hard time concentrating. Tried several times, but I prefer actually reading the books myself.

Our awesome public radio station, WXPN, had a super hits of the 60s weekend this past weekend and it was awesome! They played every number one hit from Billboard in chronological order from January 1960 through December 1969. I didn't want to get out of my car when I was out and about. I would not mind that playlist for a road trip. They played 60s music from 10-5 on Saturday and 10-2 on Sunday, and this station has minimal commercial interruption since it's member-supported.

Huh, checked my CD collection last night and am embarrassed to admit I don't own a single Boston CD. I DO have moving pictures, though - and am adding a few tracks from that to the playlist. I'm ok with country, but never enough to go buy the albums.

Weird Al Yankovich. He and his band are very talented, and the music is amusing, and usually upbeat - plus because he pulls from all genres, it gives a lot of variety, which keeps it interesting. Plus, the humor keeps you alert while driving.

"Remakes" - get songs that have been done well, and then re-done by someone else in an interesting way.

It almost, almost makes me want to reactivate my Sirius... do you have a smartphone and bluetooth in your car? you can stream Pandora through your car's speakers. I've been doing that since I discovered it was possible a few weeks back......but I also have unlimited data on my phone. be careful with that.

I've been doing that since I discovered it was possible a few weeks back......but I also have unlimited data on my phone. be careful with that. I have a phone that is smarter than I am, yes. I'm on a T-Mobile plan which allows for unlimited music streaming from several services including Pandora. Bluetooth - maybe? I have a 2010 Malibu so it seems likely. Now I have to go google how to set up Bluetooth. Dayum! The free music list is a LOT longer than the last time I checked - they've even added a Jazz site! Music services include: •Apple Music •Pandora •iHeartRadio •Rhapsody •Beatport •Spotify •Slacker •Radical.FM •8tracks •Samsung Milk Music •Black Planet •Songza •Rdio •Radio Paradise •AccuRadio •SoundCloud •Saavn •Digitally Imported •JAZZRADIO.com •ROCKRADIO.com •RadioTunes •radioPup •radio.com •Mad Genius Radio •Groove Music •Live365 •Fresca Radio •Google Music •Fit Radio •SiriusXM •Tidal Music •MixRadio •BandCamp

I was going to say if you don't have Bluetooth, they make cassette adapters to plug into the phone headphone jack, but if it's a 2010 you probably don't have a cassette player.

Nope! No cassette. I have a CD player and an audio input jack.
May stay away from the Bluetooth thing, though. Since I'm not familiar with it, I may need to fiddle or do stuff while driving and I'd prefer to keep my hands on the wheel.
That's why I burn a CD or create a long playlist on my tablet. I just set it and forget it.

Well the audio input jack makes it all kinds of easy then. No bluetooth required, just that one cord that you can buy cheap just about anywhere.

in all honesty, once I set the station, I don't do anything with it except skip a song once in awhile. if you can figure out that one thing, it wouldn't be any worse than changing your radio station while driving.
