It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

Nah. Lawyers have friends, too. I know a couple I could call if a situation presented that required me to "lawyer up" in a hurry. ditto. but it just occurred to me that i should have their numbers on my cell phone. LOL! Yeah, it might be a good idea. One of the ones I mentioned is a really good friend of the family so he's on everybody's cellphone (poor soul).

DD was pulled over for a bogus traffic stop in another state. Officer said "I couldn't verify your registration" which was current of course. She had an old beater car. Officer asked to search her car. If she refused he would call the drug squad with drug dogs, but it might be a while and she would have to wait until they got there I the back of the police car. There was no probable cause other than she was young.
She didn't call and ask me, she just let him search. No drugs found. I doubt we would have found a lawyer in 5 minutes.
I'm not sure what the right thing to do is.

I'm not a fan of letting anyone search without me being present to watch everything they do. I'm also not a fan of a male police officer playing that kind of game with a young woman. I'd have asked him to call a female officer and I would not let anyone search my car without me watching. Planting stuff is way too easy. Too bad she didn't get his name and badge number. I always told mine to write it down bcuz under stress, they'll forget. Even the fact of writing this stuff down can backfire but it a,so can show that you're aware of your rights, You can also ask to watch them run your registration since you know it is current and valid.

I read a case earlier today where a young lady was charged as an adult for possessing child pornography for having pictures of herself on her own phone- she was both the victim and criminal. No photos were sent at all. Is that the new deal in this country- ruin as many lives as possible? Is there any common sense left in this country?

Maybe there is more to the story and maybe there isn't...but what we've seen so far doesn't really seem to make much sense; especially the possibility of making him register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

So, they can have sex with each other-- with condoms provided by the government run school-- but they cannot see naked pictures of each other?

Another great example of why I'm completely opposed to "sex offender registry" laws. If the public isn't safe- keep them locked up. If they're not dangerous enough to lock up, no "registry" is necessary. This is going to wreck their lives. For what? What is the public good here? How does the community benefit from this kind of police work and/or prosecution?

Paul- we could not agree more on this. if they are a danger to society, they should not be OUT. if they are NOT, they should not be monitored. this business of making the WORLD a prison for people who have paid for their crimes has got to stop. it is absolutely antithetical to any reasonable idea of justice and freedom.

I could not find anything on the Internet after a casual check which stated condoms were provided to students by either Douglas Byrd or Jack Britt high school (government run) in North Carolina where both students attended at one time or another.

You might want to hope the schools though do provide condoms. We don't need more folks and their babies on welfare, do we.
