I am most just curious if it would be desolate at the Grand Canyon during the holidays. I don't necessarily want to be the only ones in the area -- no need to be easy pickings for mountain lions, LOL. If you stick to the main trails and the South Rim you are pretty much guaranteed to always have other people around you. You can check to see if the campsites are fully booked as you get closer to get an idea of how busy it will be. There is also a ranger at all of the campgrounds that will check-in and see that everything is okay. That said do a little off the main trail exploring and you can be richly rewarded. I built in a rest day during my trip but was so antsy that I went off on a side trail for a couple of miles and came across a herd of desert mountain goats. You won't find them on either the Bright Angel or S. Kaibab Trail.
