What's "different identity"? I didn't see that in Tenn's link to gender definition. What are you if you don't identify with the other five? Eunuch! Hermaphrodite

If they want to be progressive, they should just take gender off every form they have. If you are going to treat everyone the same, you don't need certain information. And, the more I think about it - the more I wonder why the educational portion of my university would need to know my gender. It seems totally unnecessary. Title 9. They have to have information on gender because the government makes them base some decisions on gender.

How does this work with sports. Do they have more then a men's team and a women's team for a sport like swimming? Do the genders overlap so that if you are trans woman you get to compete as a woman? Or since you specifically identified as other then woman you do not get to compete as woman?

Not sure what the big ado is here. No one has to check off which gender they are on the university form. It's voluntary.

One of the biggest complaints that ProBoards Support gets is people wanting more than just male/female on the registration page.

Maybe they should change the question to:
I have a(n): A) penis B) vagina C) both D) neither

I CAN see the need for knowing the number of males vs the number of females in a place like a university... knowing the breakdown will affect things like how many bathrooms with how many of which kind of plumbing are required in new buildings or renovated ones... Dorm assignment set up... et cetera. So I agree that the question needs asking. But... It should be limited to what people have. I actually had it limited to two ("Physically Has Penis" & "Physically Has Vagina") before I read MJ2.0's answer... now I agree with that answer, because I forgot hermaphrodites DO exist... and I suppose someone could have their "parts" removed and just have smooth skin in place of what was there. So now I agree with 4 choices: > Has Penis > Has Vagina > Has Both > Has Neither ETA: Either that or scrap the whole "each side needs their own rooms" idea and make everything "unisex"... no more men's/women's restrooms/locker-rooms... Just simply "restroom for everyone" and "locker room for everyone"

I think we will go towards less segregation based on penis or vagina criteria.

Why not? If you think that a college or university age student hasn't seen it, been there, done it already, you're living in a fantasy.
Even if they're still virgins, they've likely seen all they need to see already.
And a penis or vagina is just another body part - no need to think of them as "dirty" - or dangerous.

Do you really want your daughter sharing rooms and bathroom with men? Wouldn't bother me in the least bit (if I had a daughter)... because I would raise her to understand that modesty, just for the sake of modesty, is pretty stupid. Eventually EVERY human understands that some people have penises and the other people have vaginas. Eventually EVERY human understands that all people have nipples Eventually EVERY human understands that some people have big boobs and some people have small boobs... but ALL people have boobs of some form or another. Wearing clothes doesn't mean others don't know what you have... all it means is that they don't know what specific color or shape those parts of you are. And that's pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Question for you... if someone were to shoot you with a "nude ray" in the middle of the mall, and all your clothes immediately vanished... would ANYONE be surprised at you having the parts that you have? I highly doubt it.

I would guess they would see exactly as many penises sharing a bathroom as I see vaginas on a regular basis...

Lol. I saw a photo of a girl walking naked the other day with man nipples pasted over her regular nipples, cause, you know, those are ok...

Exactly. A penis or vagina... or even boobs for that matter... are no more inherently "dirty", just because they simply exist, than an elbow or an ear.

That's part of the hypocrisy that the Topfree movement is all about fighting. Man nipples o.k. in society... woman nipples not o.k. I say if one side is safe for public view... so should the other side be.

Personally if your last name isn't Tatum, Hemsworth, or Diesel I don't want to see your nipples.

Do you mean physically the same? No one is suggesting they are physically the same.
I just don't think it matters all that much...

I don't see the problem with the application form - I also don't think that gender questions are necessarily required.
As for name and birth date, that's required identification information - as is a person's Social Security Number .
I worked at a college where the SSN was optional for the admissions application. Students could provide it, but were not forced too. That caused problems if the student applied for Financial Aid, where the SSN IS required. We had trouble matching the FA record to the student in our admissions/registration system, since it would not match on Social. We had to do a lot of manual linking, and when I asked we were told admissions could not require the SSN up front. Thankfully most people would provide it!

If the men don't piss all over the floor b/c they dont want their hineys touching the seat or leave soggy toilet paper/seat covers everywhere b/c they don't want to pick up after themselves and it makes the line move faster then hell yes!
