The only time I recall sending something back it had a live maggot crawling over it. Please tell me you did not reorder & just left the restaurant. Never to return. I have sent things back on occasion but it is rare.

Very rarely.
I sent back a meal a month or two ago. I sent back a stone fired pizza that was absolutely cold when I got it. I actually asked them just to microwave it for a minute and bring it back but they didn't have a microwave.
Usually I just grin and bear it unless I just can't possibly eat it.

My husband is the type who will ask very specific questions about how something is cooked, what the sides are, what the flavors are, etc. While it can be a time-consuming process, it makes it so that generally what we order is exactly how we want it. I had a friend who did this, but unfortunately, no matter how much she interrogated the wait staff, they rarely failed to bring her exactly what she wanted, but she was bad about vague requests. For instance, she liked baked potatoes but was very very picky about what she wanted on them - not just which things she wanted on them, but the exact quantity. She liked to order baked potatoes at a certain restaurant we went to frequently, but she knew they always put a lot of cheese on them. She liked the cheese, but not that MUCH cheese, so she would tell them to put about half the cheese they normally did on her potato. They never ever got it exactly right. Usually they put too much on there, and rather than take her fork and scrape off the part she didn't want, she would send it back, sometimes more than once, until they had just the exact quantity of cheese on her potato. I suggested she order the potato with the cheese on the side, so she could add as much as she wanted, but she was afraid it wouldn't be melted well enough, if she did that. I suggested since they had a hard time getting the cheese exactly right she ought to order the fries or the rice instead, but she really liked the baked potatoes, but ONLY if there were exactly the right number of cheese pieces on top of it. She would even try to describe to the waiter how the potato ought to look - how much potato should be visible between the cheese. No telling how much spit she ate with her potatoes. People like that need to just stay home.

I would not have dined with her if she was that fussy. That is just embarrassing.

Hard to always beg off. We always had to let her pick the restaurant because if we voted to go to a different one, she would sit through lunch sighing and picking at her food, complaining that she wasn't really in the mood for THIS, she was so much more in the mood for that other restaurant - so we just asked her up front where she wanted to go and went there. It was just easier. And yes it was embarrassing, especially when she sent the same plate back two or three times. We always liked it better when she picked a buffet because then she could select exactly what she wanted. This was just part of her personality, though. She insisted she couldn't order an office chair from a catalog, she had to go visit them at the show room, and spent two hours setting in each chair until she could finally pick the one she wanted. She would have taken longer but our boss told her if she didn't pick one in the next 5 minutes he would pick one for her. Don't even get me started on all the study/research/comments/questions she had when she picked out a new car - the car salesman really earned his commission with that one.

We (hubby and I) go out for dinner/breakfast maybe once a month. We've rarely had to send anything back. We do have a friend, who, when we have gone out with her has sent food back almost every time or has complained about service. I cringe when we (friends) are all going out, or on a Girl's night out. You know it's coming...

I worked in fast food and "fast casual" for probably 18 months total, with a variety of people/personalities, and I have never seen someone spit into another person's food. And I doubt it's because my coworkers had such high moral and ethical standards I'm not saying it's never happened, but food is sent back all the time in a kitchen...it's really not a big deal, certainly not spit-worthy.

I have witnessed people spitting in food. It's a little more common to just have food fall on the floor and get served....that's basically a multiple time per day occurrence.

Only twice did I send something back. First was a burger, and it was raw - I ordered medium. I wasn't going to sit there and eat raw meat. Second was chicken skewers off the kid's menu for my daughter. Again - totally raw. I was afraid because she had eaten a bit, and was trying to be polite. Luckily, she did not get sick.
Since the chicken experience, I have a new rule. I do not go to a restaurant until it has been open at least 4 months. I don't care if every friend I have is going there and I really want to see them. Every time I go to a place that just opened, they don't know what they are doing. Food is wrong, service is screwed up. One place didn't have any glasses for water. I asked them if I could run to the grocery store across the street and buy a pack of red solo cups. After that, they brought me water in the smallest glass they could find from the bar. Just give them a few months to figure it all out - work out the kinks. I don't need to be the first person to go and be all hip.

I worked with a guy that urinated in the lemonade. True story. He was fired immediately. I have seen the food drop thing, many times. I also have been 'pulled over' while sitting at the drive up window at McDonald's... I complained about the food the night before, so when I showed back up, they were VERY slow getting my order out. (never got my food) Then they called the police and said they thought I was drunk, or high. I passed all of the tests and allowed them to search my car. I did have medications (labeled) with me and when they asked where I was going, I said home. They asked what I was going to do when I got home. I told them go to bed. I got a ticket for driving while POSSIBLY ill, or fatigued. It stuck. That being said, I rarely send food back. A few weeks ago I ordered pizza to be delivered. It took way too long and when it finally did arrive, it was cold and burned. Ugh. I didn't spend $30, to have cold burned pizza that took forever. I called and told them about my food, just to make them aware- it really was not acceptable. When they offered to give me my next order free, I thanked them, but declined. I came right out and told them, I was afraid of what might be done to my food! Years ago, I went to a fast food place with my mom. I ordered a well done cheeseburger. As a joke, they sent out a cheeseburger that was totally raw. I'm so glad I stopped and checked it, before I took a bite! You just never know...

I ordered chicken Marsala from a local Italian delivery place. When the order came I thought it was the wrong order because I couldn't even taste the wine sauce & it looked like it was just butter on my food. I called them to tell them it was wrong & after some consultation I was told they hold the wine because people keep sending it back saying it was too strong. My thought was why in the he11 would your order wine sauce & then complain you could taste the wine. I didn't ask for my money back & figured I'd just roll with it. About 15 minutes later there was a knock on the door & the cook himself was delivering another order this time lavishly seasoned with wine. He thanked me for actually appreciating the dish the way it should be served. It was one of the best chicken Marsala's I've eaten.

I've seen videos on the news a couple of times that caught some disgusting antics restaurant crew have been known to do, some including when a customer returns something. I also trained in a restaurant for a couple of weeks and was also disgusted at several things, like the glass doored fridge holding the dressings/condiments in the kitchen where stainless jugs of dressings are kept. Server would top salad with customer's choice from one of them, or make it 'on the side' from those jugs...fine, except it looked like the jugs and ladels hadn't been cleaned in WEEKS and jugs themselves had no tops and were exposed inside the fridge! Eww..*but it may just be me, I cover everything in my fridge...* Seriously, I wanted to it all out, clean and sanitize them and add new product so bad... I was in training at said restaurant and found that I couldn't carry a large platter that holds like 4, 5, or 6 dinner plates at once (required)....I give all the credit to waitstaff, I don't know how they do it! I made friends w/a few of my co-workers, and a couple of the girls tried to help me master it, but damn....I could NOT LIFT that HEAVY FULL PLATTER to save my life! And I was young then! But small.. I can't make my eyes and mind un-see what I saw in the news vids, and that resturant, so suffice it to say......I'm not big on going out to eat @ restaurants. I feel somewhat better at like really expensive resturants, but for the most part......regular resturants? Not a fan....except I will have breakfast at one. Yeah, I know...
