I'm guessing bankruptcy might change those last few minds needed to pass the matter.

If you were down only less than 1%, congratulations! The markets have been thinking about Greece and the EU for about three years now. Their negotiations go slower than our Congressional debates. It has been a slow motion train wreck with Greece. Today Greece is counter offering, and the beat goes on........... Is it an economic mess? Yes. But put it in context. Apple could pay off over half of Greece's debt and have money left over in their spare cash fund at corporate.

Apple could "buy" Greece by taking over it's debt, paying some down and creating it's own country with it's own tax structure et cetera. It would have naming rights on all the archaeological sites. Talk about product placement!

Puerto Rico has been in a recession since 2006 with a debt = 66% GDP + 13% unemployment. One can only hope we don't bail them out despite their being quasi-US citizens since they apparently like to stick their collective heads in the sand

Many have permanently migrated to the U.S. due to no jobs on the island. Fewer people paying into the government pot, and more Government bonds being sold equals another Detroit, or Illinois.

Yeah. And there's no issue with them fleeing to the mainland Value Buy, is DC responsible for their debt if they default? How does it work for territories?

Yeah. And there's no issue with them fleeing to the mainland Value Buy, is DC responsible for their debt if they default? How does it work for territories? According to CNBC today, TALKING HEADS said D.C.is not responsible for their debt. As a territory they are under U.S. jurisdiction but they are responsible for their debt, much like any state in the Union. They were allowed to issue tax free bonds, similar to a state, but the debt stops at the border, just like Illinois. That is not to say that Congress or the President will not step in and do something about it. And remember we are talking only 72 billion dollars in bonds. Remember when a billion sounded like a lot of money? Consider this. In six months the markets have seen one trillion dollars in mergers and aquisitions of companies.

I had a friend whose wife was a philosophy major. He told us she wanted to apply to med school and thought she'd get in because the med schools wanted more well rounded people as opposed to someone who majored, say in chemistry or biology. I think she just ended up having a slew of kids by him and staying home.

It will be awesome when it happens. So many people on welfare - the sales of Coach handbags will shoot through the roof!

Funny. I lost much more yesterday on the portfolio than when the market was supposed to collapse On June 30th. Hopefully, I will claw back a good portion today, unless the markets head south this afternoon.

It traded down to around it's 200 day moving average. People are selling their winners this week. I wonder how much of it is European bank traders amassing some funds to cover their Greek investments
